Because of him I'm totally wondering myself if I should go for Cubase instead of Ableton, I've preferred Ableton because it seemed more logical to me, but because of Dom, I'm really starting to get the hang of Cubase as well! He's a hero!
Thank God for this video - Been trying to figure out why you can't add effects to the Send channel for ages - Who'd have thought it's a right click... Finally I can use reverb properly instead of inserting it.
Love these Cubase minutes. Much easier than trying to read the Cubase manual. The manual is more like "here is how to do this thing that you don't even know why you would want to do that, and let's throw in some technical terms you don't understand also". But with the Dom videos, it's more practical.
When this video popped up on my notifications I was thinking another thing worth covering for parallel processing is the direct routing hidden in the mixer window, I had to figure it out myself when I jumped from Pro Tools to Cubase a while ago as I could not find any info on it at the time, very handy feature... :)
cubase minute episodes are inspired. Quick, informative and accessible. Can we have one on setting up buses please. what they are and how to set them up? Ins and outs? Thank you
Hey Dom! Appreciate your videos always - this no exception. You ask what do we want to see more of in these "minutes" :). I have a suggestion. Well, several, but let's keep it simple. One of the most annoying things with me using Cubase - and I'll emphasize it's probably a me problem more than a Cubase problem hahaha - is the workflow when it comes to manage projects. How to copy things from one project to another is one thing that comes to mind. Right now for example, I have a project open. A large one, and I was having a break, cracked a can of something to drink, and started fiddling with the piano. Out comes among other things a riff I'd like to base a new project on. But how is the best way of getting that track with the virtual instrument, fx chain and everything copied or exported to another fresh project? Other related things... Well let's see. I've been a cubase user for approx. 20 years. And from those 20 years I have gathered tons of project files, some which have some gold, and some useless obviously. I have by no means been a pro the vast majority of that time. Only recently life granted me the oportunity to dive full time into creative work. That's fun. But what is annoying is that complete collection of untidy stuff. Tips for organizing, cleaning up and updating old and or ancient project files - where file structure has been all over the place. Like 20 projects share one folder of audio files, and some audio files are to be found a completely other place if found at all. I guess tips on how to organize the work when it comes to saving, folder and file structure - I guess so that I know that when I grab one folder and throw it back and forth from backup drives, that the project is there, not more or less than the project. Really not an issue the latest years, but organizing the stuff that has been very poorly organized before is a major issue I suspect for many early amateur users like I was myself. I also gotta say, I have not plowed through all of your videos, so you might have videos on stuff like this or similar without me knowing - so I appologize for that in case that is so. Other than that - I'd like to see more synthwave sound design. It's a genre that I've kinda avoided as it was a bit scary to dive into when it comes to the creative aspect. And also maybe some discussion of what is realistic time to spend on sound design. I suspect many as myself give up too early and don't want to spend 4 weeks on a sound effect when we should. (exaggeration hehe but u get the idea). Thanks for reading that rather lenghy essay, not something I do often, but u asked for it, didn't you? :D. Have a nice one.
These short videos are great! A lot of the time these features are buried in longer videos and you get distracted by another one and never get around to trying it. Thanks.
Awesome video! Can you make a video on properly setting up the talkback feature in Control Room? I can never get it to work like it logically should so I end up setting up an audio track and turning on and off the monitor button so the person in the other room can hear me. That would be a great and incredibly useful video.
I learned this the hard way, as my Trailer Template grew so big and I loaded like 20 instances of Blackhole Reverb, with minimal differences in settings... Even if you have a heavy machine, saving up a lot of CPU and having a clean Project makes a big difference! :)
how to increase the limit of the send rack, when I want to side chain more than 10 elements there is no any more spots available to add the kick as a side chain? I tried search the setting and prefrences, but no luck!
this is great, one thing i want to know when you have added vox reverb to guitar , and when toggle it , will the toggle changes the settings of vox ? or these are controlled individually
Thanks a lot from germany. Could you show how to make midi to audio if you not allready done it, that would be great I have cubase 11 pro. Thanks, great chanel.
Hey Dom, I used FX sends habitually but use a lot of automation, sometimes for a sort of fill, other times to capture a snippet etc Using a controller like Allen & Heath Xone:K2 how would I go about automating track send faders? It would speed up my workflow no end to ditch the pencil tool in this case!
What i would like is a in depth look at the step input in cubase? Would have to be longer than a minute though!!!!!!! I have tried this feature, EXACTLY copying a demo from a video and i set note length etc etc the same, all the settings were set the same and i input all the same notes as in the demo, but when i played it back it was all over the place? Please Dom, lead us on the right path???? Cheers!!!! Love your vids man!

Create a drum track in real time using Groove Agent Style Player. Say you have a bass track and want to record a drum groove using the Style player feature while the bass track is playing. Hope that makes sens! Thanks Dom!
Dom please I am going INSANE here!!!!...How on earth I can have the normal vertical zoom on my tracks. I think I activated like a "zoom per channel" thing and when I click on a track I get that expanded and the others smaller. This functions is sooo unusable for me I hate it so much. How can I have a normal behaviour where nothing zooms vertically when I click a track, and only I DECIDE when to zoom up or down a track channel??? PLEASEEEEEE
My problem is after I close the effect on the FX channel. I can no longer open it to edit it. Is there any solution to how to make it reappear to change settings or presets?
Hi legend my mouse button in cubse 12 doesn’t function and can’t turn the volume or insert anything but when I press “alt” it works. Can you help me to revert it back to mouse button functionality. Many thanks
Greate tip, but why share the same reverb on vocals and guitar.....shouldn't they be separated......if you change for vocals you change for guitar...not really something I would want to do... Only vocals should share the same reverb no?
Very good question- this was just an example! I would probably use a different reverb for different sources but there are times when sharing the same reverb is useful. For example- let’s say you have an orchestra or a string quartet. You probably want to send them to the same “space” so that you can place all of the instruments in the same room . Same could be true for drums or an acoustic ensemble playing. Another reason would be if you’re running out of CPU or if your computer is slow. Then you can save a lot of power using common send effects when possible. Reverbs tend to be CPU hungry so this might save you a lot of frustration. But yes, most of the times I would use a different send for guitars vs vocals for sure ;)
BUT DOM, if you send them all to the same channel, and are changing the amount... you don't tell us whether that amount changes how much reverb goes to the other instruments also, or if they receive different amounts of reverb. I definitely need to know.
Your Cubase Minute episodes are really useful, Dom! Thank you so much!
