Don't forget, because of the Night Haunter, the Night Lords has the smallest civilian body count.

Night Lord + Word Bearer compliances were the most stable and least heretical 10 millennia later. And given the medical knowledge during the Great Crusade, the possibility exists that the people they flayed would've been in agony, but they could've been able to be put back together and mindwiped so they wouldn't have to remember it. The performance would've been genuine but then all the damage repaired.

He was already outlawed by the Imperium even before the start of the Heresy. Night Lords pretty much hate Chaos and Demons because they are seen as another form of authority.

He joined the traitors because his legion was already in hot water. Right before the Heresy they were suppose to be brought to the Emperor to pay for their crimes, but the Heresy made the Emperor have to postpone it and send them to Istvan to fight Horus.

Ok, we must also remember that Lord Curze and the Original Night Lords were and did exactly what the Emperor wanted. They were never the shining heroes that everybody would look up to. Throughout history, every Ruler, King and Emperor had three individuals that did things "For" them. There is the Grand Executioner which we say is/was Leman Russ. There is the Master of Assassins which is/was Corvus Corax. There is the High Judge which is/was Konrad Curze.
The Emperor knew full well the mental and emotional damage that Konrad Curze had and was dealing with and did nothing to help him, Curze was exactly the way the Emperor wanted him to be and in that, the 8th, the original 8th can not be seen as a Traitor and or Renegade legion. They are fully loyal, and do the Emperor's work. Now here is where things get muddy. When the 8th starts to receive new recruits that are of a more and more lesser stock things fall apart. The original Night Lords knew that the deeds they did in the dark were of a certain flavor and they did not take joy in it, it was a means to an end. The latter 8th with its more unscrupulous members took joy in the dirty deeds. So on one side we have individuals willing to do horrible things for the greater good and on the other we have individuals willing to do horrible things for pure shits and giggles. And that is where Lord Konrad Curse finally had his last mental break not being able to tell who is killing out of duty to the Emperor and who is killing for joy. A sad story of a failing father and a conflicted son made truly worst by the fact that the father could have changed the 8th's ending if he gave Curze a hug that first day, walked him from the darkest into the light even if the Emperor told Curze that he and his legion would go back into the blackest but know that they would always have a place by the Emperor's side they in the light for them, all would have been different, but no the Emperor had to be soo mysterious and weird.

well I'm not gonna telle Konrad was a good person, but you just have to remember one thing, his conquests were BY FAR les costly in lives than any other primarchs.
when most primarchs will just directly launch a full on assault of the newly discovered planet, Konrad will murder a few, and then terrorize the planet into submission with some infractuctures sabotages, while the other will kill millions in war and extraordinary levels of destructions, he will barely kill some tens or hundreds because he doesn't need more, it's effective enough
don't forget, Konrad wasn't a sadistic piece of shit, like he didn't enjoy doing what he was doing, torturing people, he just think it was necessary and that only fear will keep hhumans in check, he's basicaly 40K version of grand moff Tarkin from Star Wars. also he generaly didn't choose his victims for nothing, generaly he choose the person that (according to his twisted sense of justice) deserved it, just like a no limit batman
his sons on the other hand ... well, the terran ones were okay, the nostromo ones ... well, let's say they sickened greatly Konrad and didn't think of any of them as his sons ... except Sevatar

Is there anybody in the setting who doesn't have more redeeming qualities than Kurze? Even the genestealer cults at least have weird gribbly monster breeding fetish rolled into their whole biz.

  • @ashardalondragnipurake
    @ashardalondragnipurake Месяц назад +10

he was the only primarch with empathy
yes sanguinius played and manipulated people into thinking he cared but kurze actually understood peoples emotion
he conquered worlds in less time and with the fewest amount of civilian casualties of any of the crusading fleets
and did so with almost no logistical support or supply lines
people who call kurze a monster are too afraid of looking at themself
    he was the better
he was still a monster, but he was the monster humanity deserves
    -
    he was not chaos undivided
the night lords technically fall into chaos undivided, but those that still hold to kurze his teachings (wich is not all of them considering the recruiting stock nostramo had) are also not fallen to chaos
they make dealings with chaos, they ally with chaos, but they do not serve chaos
they are against the imperium, not with chaos
    -
his specialty was not terrorism, it was terror
the raven guard and alpha legion specialize in terrorism
kurze and the night lords specialize in fear
the distinction might seem minimal at first glance, but is actually quite big if you think about it
    -
he didnt do it for the love of the game
he hated it, he hated what he was made to do, crafted to perfection for the one job
but he did that job amazingly, because doing that job well enough meant he didnt need to do it often
kurze conquered planets in days with only a few hundred dead
    yes those hundred died horribly
but would he have been less a monster if he killed billions instead? like his praised brother guilliman?
    -
he is not batman, because batman continues to leave joker alive to torment gotham so he can keep spending billions to boost his ego in beating a poor crippled clown
if kurze landed in gotham joker would die so spectacularly there would never be a penguin
    -
and what fanfic are you telling about the assassin?
he had a very simple lesson to teach via the assassin and people simply cant grasp it
    its very sad
people have no empathy, no self reflection, no moment of deep thinking on the lesson he brought forth
so they have to make up stories to justifie the imperiums horrible actions and malicious intent sending the assassin
he was willing to die to make them see, in his foolish hope they would be able to have empathy like he was made to have
but they and the readers, wouldnt be able to grasp empathy even if it was carved into their skull
he taught too much of humanity, he was too human, he was too good for people
    -
    technically not dead
    people really are monsters
he expected too much from humanity
he hoped we could be better
    he hoped we could learn
    he was wrong
yes he was a monster, but he was less a monster then we are
    -
    russ has no redeeming qualities
book burner, savage hypocrite, mutant freak, any time he was able to string more then 3 words together he turned it into a tale of lies
tzeentch went after magnus because he already owned russ
