one of my favorite genesis games!! It's crazy but I actually picked up a brand new copy of this at Toys R Us during the PS2 era!! it was an aberration!! it was the lone genesis game among ps2, GameCube and Xbox games. it was like striking gold. picked it up and bought it right away
You were really lucky, at that time Bloodlines was already acknowledged as one of the best game of it's era. Most of the games from previous generations available at stores are bad ones that didn't sell.
I actually have more fun with this overall than I do with SCIV. They forgot to balance the level design according to the control improvements for major parts of the game and it had no alternate paths like BL or III.
Man, your enunciation is *perfect*. I turned on captions shortly after the video started, only to realize that it was auto-generated about half way through the video.
As someone who has played through just about every main entry in the Castlevania series to date Id dare say of all the classic styled entries this one is my absolute favorite. Bloodlines feels like a remix of the og Castlevania series giving you the "best of" in both level themes and musical scores. The soundtrack is brilliant, gameplay is more fluid, and the difficulty feels juuuust right, add in two playable characters and you have yourself a wonderful title.
yeah hard corps is great. i have yet to spend enough time on any contra game to beat it yet, but i made progress in hsrd corps more quickly than any of them and find contra 3 more difficult. hard corps seemed harder at first until i reslized you're invincible while sliding, once you understand how sliding works it gets a bit easier.
@@Jack_80 Yeah I agree it depends on the route you take but overall Hardcorps is easier than Contra 3. The patterns are easier to learn, weapons feel like they have utility for every situation and the slide mechanic has Iframes. It’s much more memory based/trial and error than Contra 3. A lot of people think HC is like the hardest contra and I can’t for the life of me understand why.

Also, imo what makes the Castlevania series so awesome is the fact that it combines horror into 2D action-platforming game and somehow makes it works. In addition to that, Castlevania can't really be played in a gung ho way. You have to be careful with your moves but at the same time, you can't be too slow either or the game will kick your ass(believe me it will). Sure some other platforming games are like this too. But none is as intense as Castlevania games are.
I just finished this game. It only has six stages, but like some older platformers, you need to really master them because you have to play the whole game on just two continues (even if you use the password save feature), so you need to run the early levels pretty clean to make it to the end with enough left in the tank. I didn't mind this as I've always enjoyed games that work that way, but it is a departure from earlier Castlevanias that may not be to everyone's taste.
Magnum force Mopar The snes one is a direct port of the Pcengine one (which is better than the snes one by the way). So was Symphony of the night a sequel to bloodlines or Rondo? So which one you think was the better game then? Bloodlines is not a bad genesis game but they could've used a much better palette.
Magnum force Mopar SNES famboys are the worst. I grew up with a Genesis and purchsed a SNES in highschool. Both systems are outstanding and I believe the 16 bit generation was the best ever.

Every single comment seems like it's just focused on you daring to say Rondo isn't the best. I've never really understood this ridiculous love for Rondo, it's a fine game and all but I like this, CV IV and even CV III more as far as classic Castlevanias. I get this feeling it just generated so much mystique from being Japan-exclusive, on an "unusual" console and being the mysterious prequel to SotN people hyped it to death.

It’s still dumb how Konami never bothered to port Rondo of Blood to PlayStation so more people could play it. I wish to play it without having to invest too much.
I agree it’s really annoying seeing these people acting like it’s sacrilegious to like a game more than rondo when it’s just a pretty good game, nothing more. It’s perfectly acceptable to like other og Castlevanias more than rondo but I guess people don’t get that

Got to play this game for the first time last weekend, and it's definitely great. I really enjoyed the speed of the game, it's a lot faster than Castlevania 4. I still like 4 more, but Bloodlines is better in some aspects.
For some reason, Bloodlines has always felt a little "off" to me, but it still manages to be a fantastic game. Also, I think Lecarde's spear is a bit faster than the whip, but also has a little gap in its attack pattern, so if an enemy crowds you, things can go badly. He's still awesome, though. Definitely a doable game, I managed to finish on the highest difficulty level after a bit of practice.
Both SCIV and Bloodlines are fantastic games. Both masterpieces, but this is just my opinion. I'm with Team Bloodlines over here so I have to give this one the edge. I love the challenge, the graphics, the music, the gameplay, and overall presentation.
so why exactly don't you like rondo of blood? I mean its honestly just as good of symphony of the night so maybe you should do a full review of the game.
bleh sotn destroys all imo. Best main character ever and liked the rpg mechanics and it wasn't stage driven, also felt way less "stiff". Trial and error gets boring especially with stiff controls.
This game was the final straw that actually convinced me to pick up a Genesis in like 2005. I was a SNES snob growing up, and although I had a mild admiration for what the Genesis was doing, it was something I passed on until a buddy of mine educated me on the glory that was Castlevania Bloodlines. I had the Castlevania fever bad in those days, and this was a real treat to discover. I feel like comparing Rondo, Castlevania 4, and Bloodlines is comparing your 3 favorite cereals though. They all taste great for different reasons, and even if you favor one over the others, you may get tired of that one and you still have your 2 other favorite cereals to fall back on. It's a no-lose scenario. It's a shame the real version of Rondo didn't leave Japan until 2007 on PSP, and 2010 in its original form on virtual console.
Capcom should do a darkstalkers vs Castlevania and devil may cry in there. And might as well out onimusha there too. Or in later versions. And I think Konami owns that ghost girl too. And ghouls and ghosts characters. Edit: oh and silent hill! And resident evil.
I cannot get into the Castlevania series. As a kid, Castlevania 1 was so hard that I essentially gave up on the series. As an adult, I never could get back into it.
LOL, I think I have the exact opposite list of favourite Castlevania games on 16 Bit. Super Castlevania IV is my least favourite (still a decent game though) while Rondo of Blood and Vampire's Kiss are my favourites. Bloodlines is a cool game too, but 3rd in my list.
I've owned this game forever for the Genesis, but just can't seem to take it as seriously as SC4 for whatever reason...oh well. I digg ur station and have binge watched so many episodes back to back. keep up the good work mann... 👍
Lol James and Mike from Cinnemassacre shat all over this game during their play through, they definitely have some heavy Nintendo bias. This game has always looked super cool to me, can’t wait to get my copy.
Contra Hard Corps is really hard, but I still find it much easier than this game. I love Castlevania, but screw the difficulty level on Bloodlines, and you have to beat it on hard mode to get the full ending too? I'll gladly take Contra Hard Corps any day. The Japanese version has energy too, so it's much more manageable, if you don't care about the story line.
Its one of the best games on the genesis. If you ever liked or played any castlevania there is no reason you would not want to play this. That being said I think castlevania 4, and SOTN are better games then this is. Even some on DS might be better than this one like dawn of sorrow is very good. The genesis music and color palette kind of hurts it on some games vs other systems.
I don't see how you can think Rondo is not better than bloodline, Dracula X, and 4. In my opinion Castlevania 4 is worse than both Bloodline and Dracula X with Rondo of Blood being the best out the 16 bit Castlevania games. It's still a good game but nothing compared to Rondo of Blood. Regardless this was a great video.
shadowshinobi06 I bet that if the SNES and Genesis used discs (not counting add-ons) that those games would have also had a more anime style to it. Rondo of Blood was on a disc meaning that it had extra space for cut scenes and high quality music. Konami, being a Japanese company, used the extra space on the disc to give Rondo of Blood its anime cut scenes.
shadowshinobi06 I'm not saying there was a need for the anime scenes, what I am saying is Konami wanted to add cut scenes, because they are a Japanese company the cut scenes were anime. Also in-game cut scenes are different than fmv cut scenes. The reason SOTN didn't have anime cut scenes everywhere was because it was a semi-budget title and it was 20-30+ hours long making adding fully hand drawn cut scenes all throughout the game EXTREMELY expensive. Rondo of Blood was no longer than 5 hours and it was released back when everybody went crazy over fmv cut scenes.
DEFINATLEY better than Castlevania 4.. no slowdown, more variety, and you can jump off of stairs.. and less choppy.. BUT Castlevania 4 is STILL great and crazy fun.
Bloodlines is awesome but I liked castle better...question for whoever knows the answer... I was playing bloodlines on a Genesis multi cart not sure what button combination I pressed to do it but I couldn't take damage from enemies ... Anyone know how I did that
so a mish mashed game with quality gameplay like tmnt on sega is not worth playing? what if i get tired of playing the snes version and want to play some more tmnt.. Hyperstone Heist can most. DEFNINATELY satisfy that itch.. also, Contra 3, with those terrible top down levels, is not better than Harcorps, ESPECIALLY the japanese version.
These reviews are too short. Not enough time to properly talk about the game. Personally, I think a review should be around 10 minutes to properly review a game
I honestly think Super Castlevania IV is the weakest of all 16-bit Castlevanias (i.e. Rondo, Dracula X and Bloodlines). It's way too easy with that OP whip. Took away all that was challenging and rivetting about Castlevania. Plus it looks muddy as fuck and the soundtrack is kinda overrated. Rondo is the ultimate classic Castlevania. Bloodlines is amazing too.
ill have to disagree with you on this one. I think castlevania 4 on snes and SOTN are the two best ones ever made. The graphics and music on castle 4 are among the best ever produced even better than SOTN maybe. I can see the argument its too easy, but so is SOTN. Doesnt make it bad, and the graphics being muddy I have no idea what your talking about. Its amazing 16 bit spritework. My debate is always is castle 4 or SOTN better?
SNES drunk man I feel honored you actually replied to my comment, I’ve put all my boys on to your channel, you inspired me to actually beat those games.... SNNNNEEEEEESSSSSDRUNK! Still not picking BLOODLINES over DRACULA X tho but opinions vary I see 🤣

+Tom Wilson Vampire's Kiss is the European name for Dracula X.
They finally rereleased it in the castlevania anniversary collection.
Before you could only play it on emulator or megadrive.
I found this game didn't think twice about the price until afterwards lol
I've owned this game forever for the Genesis, but just can't seem to take it as seriously as SC4 for whatever reason...oh well. I digg ur station and have binge watched so many episodes back to back. keep up the good work mann... 👍
Love this game to death.
Lol James and Mike from Cinnemassacre shat all over this game during their play through, they definitely have some heavy Nintendo bias. This game has always looked super cool to me, can’t wait to get my copy.
They've completely fallen off my radar. What didn't they like about this game?
Never got into the Castlevania series maybe this game could do it. Probably cost an arm, leg and part of your soul now in 2020 though.
Classic I have this in my genesis collection I almost all the castlevania games the top ones anyway
Never knew this game existed.
Agreed
Contra Hard Corps is really hard, but I still find it much easier than this game. I love Castlevania, but screw the difficulty level on Bloodlines, and you have to beat it on hard mode to get the full ending too? I'll gladly take Contra Hard Corps any day. The Japanese version has energy too, so it's much more manageable, if you don't care about the story line.
Best 16-bit game, alongside Megaman X.
That ww1 fashion
I owned it was awesome.
I don't even need to watch this video. Yes, it's worth playing is the correct answer.
Regardless this was a great video.
shadowshinobi06 What is Rondo of Blood parodying?
shadowshinobi06 I bet that if the SNES and Genesis used discs (not counting add-ons) that those games would have also had a more anime style to it.
The only thing I HATE about this game is the limited continues. Only 3 continues!?! That’s BULLSHIT!!!
DEFINATLEY better than Castlevania 4.. no slowdown, more variety, and you can jump off of stairs.. and less choppy.. BUT Castlevania 4 is STILL great and crazy fun.
its worth playing yesterday and tomorrow too, also contra hard corps is not that hard, just like any contra learn it
bloodlines KILLS CV4 in my book
This looks too good to be on the sega
IMO, this is my least favorite castlevania game, really I tried and it wasn't great for me, I will take Super Castlevania 4 any day.
Z_Z After playing sotn it's too hard to go back to the old ones.
Again What's the price of Rondo of Blood?? Bloodlines is $100 CIB
I thought it was jonathan not john morris. Dont listen to him rondo of blood is better than super castlevania 4. X and bloodlines are both good though
Bloodlines is awesome but I liked castle better...question for whoever knows the answer... I was playing bloodlines on a Genesis multi cart not sure what button combination I pressed to do it but I couldn't take damage from enemies ... Anyone know how I did that
Why does Rastan suck but this looks like the best game ever on Genesis.
so a mish mashed game with quality gameplay like tmnt on sega is not worth playing? what if i get tired of playing the snes version and want to play some more tmnt..
You're in the wrong place then Kevin, enjoy your day
It better then 4 on the SNES.
Super Castlevania 4 will probably never be topped. But this game comes close.
Not even Symphony of the Night?
The Game Grinder Yeah, personally I like Super Castlevania 4 much better. But I know SotN is a big time fan favorite.
I've just started playing Rondo of Blood, and curious to see where that ends up landing on my list. 4 is definitely awesome too!
The Game Grinder 4 was the 2nd best Classicvania, Rondo was 1 and Bloodlines was 3th. If its about Metroidvanias, id replay Aria of Sorrow anyday.
super castlevania 4 was the best until symphony of the night
I honestly think Super Castlevania IV is the weakest of all 16-bit Castlevanias (i.e. Rondo, Dracula X and Bloodlines). It's way too easy with that OP whip. Took away all that was challenging and rivetting about Castlevania. Plus it looks muddy as fuck and the soundtrack is kinda overrated. Rondo is the ultimate classic Castlevania. Bloodlines is amazing too.
vozone Yup easiest old school Castlevania...like it's critically acclaimed due to the fact that most people beat it in little sittings.
You're wrong about the soundtrack though! lol
ill have to disagree with you on this one.
@@wildwest1832 accesability send this game over the top for me
2:45
i'm like the opposite, i prefer Dracula X & Rondo to Bloodlines, and Bloodlines to IV
hell i like chronicles more than IV-
This guy really said he’d play this over Dracula x 🤣🤣🤣 hell tf no!
This guy, amirite?
SNES drunk man I feel honored you actually replied to my comment, I’ve put all my boys on to your channel, you inspired me to actually beat those games.... SNNNNEEEEEESSSSSDRUNK!
Still not picking BLOODLINES over DRACULA X tho but opinions vary I see 🤣
Why do you put the word "today" in you titles? What's so special about today vs yesterday? Did you learn how to make titles from tumblr?
Because "Wasn't this fun to play 25 years ago?" is not useful. How do these games hold up? Thanks for commenting.
