I can hear the influence of the Rejects in so many modern acts, from 'heavy' bands, to hip-hop and mainstream. I first saw them performing 'The greatest Cockney rip off' on TOTP back in 1980. However, it is only thirty years later that I really 'discovered' and appreciate their cut-down, back-to-basics and no frills approach to music. It is sad that they were so underrated and berated in their heyday by the music press. Jeff Gegus's book 'Cockney Reject' is well worth a read.
Thanks a lot for posting the lyric here for us who are not native english speakers. I always wanted to know the lyric of this song. Many thanks! Cheers!
Forgot to mention that the film 'Rough Cut and Ready Dubbed', from which this clip is taken, must be unique in that as far as I know it is the only chronicle of the period from the end of punk to the arrival of the new romantic movement, i.e. approximately 1978 to 1981. Although that period is somewhat overlooked now, there were some excellent bands around, as can be seen from the film; bands that had their own musical and dress style, yet escaped becoming video or MTV 'clones'.
hello, im not native english-speaker so i cant understand what he's singing. i would be very grateful to the person who writes the lyrics. thanks see you!
Just tried to look up the lyrics in Stinky Turner´s "Cockney Reject"-book where he put down his memories of that time. Didn´t find them but it says there that they all hated the lyrics because Jimmy Pursey wrote them, out of his mind, and convinced the band to use them in the song, which they later did regret.
easily one of the greatest rock bands of all time. its a shame they were so rapped up in the west ham supporters which alienated them from the rest of england, they could have been absolutely massive.
The Cockney rejects clip is from a 1982 documentary called "rough cut and ready dubbed", and you can get it from play.com for a measly £5, hope that helps mate
it's true that sex pistols were manipulated by mclaren, but he don't made the songs or the "attitude", he only documented every disaster which involved the band and sell it to the press. he dressd them sometimes too (which they don't matter because any new clothes was well received). he only took a band (who was started by steve jones and paul cook) of "rioter youngs" without big brains and put them in some dangerou and scandal places and situations, the rest was wait for the tabloid press
i don't understand why always the rejects fans compare cockney rejects with sex pistols and despise them sex pistols was the first rock and roll band with lumpen-renegade-street attitude. nobody have balls to do a song like god save the queen and play it in the jubilee of queen elizabeth! and they were poor, not snobs or rich kids
Jimmy Pursey may not have written all of the lyrics, but the chorus he did write. Don´t like that fact, too. Once met the guy in 1988 in a hotel lobby where Sham 69 checked in. I recognized JP and he introduced his band kindly: "Yes, I am Jimmy Pursey, this is Dave Parsons, and the rest are a pile of shit." The gig he played that night made it sound the other way round.
Oi is punk in its truest form. Now can someone help me? I've been searching the internet for more than 7 years looking for the lyrics to this fuckin' song! Can anyone tell me where to find them?
If the Rejects firm - about 25 of them - could take on 300 Birmingham and batter them, which they did at the Cedar Ballroom in the early ' 80s , why would they have been scared to play in Newcastle ? Unlike some wannabes, The Rejects could actually back their mouths up.
They didn't, it picked them. They tried to move away from it by moving into playing metal etc, but it followed them and ultimately ended their careers.
pistols don't went with the plan of "be bad boys", they only were common street boys, drunkards and thieves. they was rejected for any company who took them. many of they concerts were disasters. don't have good songs? really? god save the queen, anarchy in the uk, satellite, no fellings, holidays in the sun, bodies, new york... they start with the real street punk, bands like cockney rejects follow them, and obviously it's more easy do something more "hard" after listen the first band
the greatest hits of volume1 ist die beste punkplatte die je gemacht wurde.ich hore sie heute noch sehr oft . cockney ist geil.

THE BUSINESS ARE BETTER
Don't take me for an Idiot.
@wutstock Definitely. The Sex Pistols have like two decent songs while the Rejects' first two albums fucking kill it song after song after song
then what made them great ?

I Posted a Music Track, not a war zone for the terrorises.
I like it better than buzzcocoks
They didn't, it picked them. They tried to move away from it by moving into playing metal etc, but it followed them and ultimately ended their careers.
sorry this is Street Punk !
i think they are way better then the sex pistols
being the worst!
pistols don't went with the plan of "be bad boys", they only were common street boys, drunkards and thieves. they was rejected for any company who took them. many of they concerts were disasters. don't have good songs? really? god save the queen, anarchy in the uk, satellite, no fellings, holidays in the sun, bodies, new york... they start with the real street punk, bands like cockney rejects follow them, and obviously it's more easy do something more "hard" after listen the first band
stop making things up, during this gig 30 rejects road crew decimated about 150 brummie skins, it's a well documented fact
everyone is better than the sex pistols. being good is not what made them great....
extreme noise terror did this song WAAAAYY better
Too bad the Sex Pistols sux.
