@Achaem Basketball If you want to drink alcohol on the train, please play in another country 😂😂 If you can't follow the rules of Japan, you don't have to come. If you want to stay in another country, check the rules before going. That is respect for the country.

I don't see what he did wrong. Even if it is considered rude to talk in the train, he doesn't deserve to be attacked and insulted in the subway. Others around ignored him. I think the 🇯🇵 guy was at fault. He doesn't have to touch him that way. Fortunately the guy didn't react too much, some would have used their hands

    • @ericbailey6779

@@verdiernoyama9681 Honestly, you are right. I know that everybody talks about how polite Japanese society is. And for the most part, they are right. Japanese trains are usually so quiet it's creepy.
BUT, that doesn't mean that what the Brit is doing is out of the ordinary. I've seen drunk grandpas picking fights. I've seen rainbow hair punks playing music. And as always, there are occasional High School kids (mostly girls) chatting away like useless squirrels.. (Face it, we were all dumb at that age, no matter what country you are from.)
What makes this so weird is the Japanese guy reacting to it. Japan is the least confrontational society I've ever lived in. I could tell you some horror stories about how much people here are willing to ignore everything. (And that is including the police.)
Your are right, though. That reaction was strangely over the top. That made it more viral than others is my guess on to why it was all over for a while.

If you don’t respect the culture, disagree, or dislike it, simply stay in your own country because no one asked you to come. Japan generally love tourists that love Japan and want to experience the culture. They are also normally very tolerant and non confrontational about simple mistakes, or ignorance (if it’s not on purpose) until you start acting belligerent and obnoxious. People like this are the very reason there is a “no-foreigner” policy in certain venues. The few foreigners that cause trouble give all the other good people a bad image.

That is only your experience. Will be 5 years living in Japan in a few months, and I had plenty of straight-up rude Japanese. The politeness that people visiters witness is just a mask to cover how they really feel. There is even terms "honne vs tatemae," which basically admits that it's in their culture to fake being kind and considerate. However, that only holds for so long and only for certain people.
My mother-in-law (from my Japanese wife) the other day was in the mall with a cane and stumbled a bit which block some man's path in which he said "omae, jamadayo" which is basically saying "you're in my fucking way!. My mother-in-law needless to say was shocked and quickly told my wife who quickly told me.
So that's an elderly Japanese. I can go on and on how many times Japanese has been rude to me, has been rude to my wife (along with sexual harassment with one being in front of me), and constant unfriendliness and rudeness towards my kids (especially my daughter who wants to be friends with everyone) which is rarely ever reprimanded by the parents.

As a Japanese person, please understand our culture. It is generally frowned upon to drink beverages on the train, and consuming alcohol is even more inappropriate. Despite this, from the local experience, it is likely that the Japanese man realized that the drank man would negatively affect the shared space if he remained on the train. I suppose he was not supposed to fight against with him outside rather he wanted to make that man out of the train and wanted to make him stay calm on the platform. Additionally, there are a lot of workers here during the night time so it would be weekday. Everyone got tired after work and it is not desirable to do inappropriate things in public space.
Lastly, it is interesting that the japanese woman never hesitated to be approaching to him and tried to sit the seat. As you see this phenomenon, some ppl is getting used to this situation...
As someone has already mentioned, it seems he was insulting to the woman in front of him. That might be the MAIN reason why the man made such a decision to try to make him out from train... He is abs drank

At the end it shows he has headphones on. Perhaps he was on the phone, talking to his friend or family. To me that guy was not being loud or obnoxious. He was having a beer and chatting with a friend on the phone. What's wrong with that? In Japan, do you have to be quiet while riding in a train? Only thing was him having an open can of beer and his demanor seemed as if he was drunk. However, i dont think he was. This was just misunderstanding.

First of all he was loud and obnoxious by Japanese standards. They're a rather reticent people, especially in certain areas. If he wants to be loud he should probably visit a club. There are plenty in places like Roppongi and Kabukichō.
Because their culture dictates that you stay quiet on the train and don't talk on the phone. Why? Because if everyone on the train was yapping on their phones, it would be very noisy and disturb passengers who are tired at the end of the day and just want to get home from work. Japanese people work very hard, so they should at least get that brief moment of respite.
And him drinking on the train was also bad - you don't eat or drink on public transport. You might make a mess. Even if it wasn't alcoholic, it's still disrespectful.

Lived in Japan for over 20 years. This happens way too often (But still, not much compared with anywhere else). Rarely do Japanese intervene like this. Japanese 'salaryman' was super angry. I think I caught the Brit mocking the way Japanese women speak. Not sure, but either he was on his phone or was 'talking' to the girl with her back to him (at the door). Not sure. He was drunk he might've been imagining the other half of the convo.
Older Japanese, especially senior citizens, men in the 70s +, show no fear. I once saw two elderly men drag a young Japanese boy off the train for bad manners. The kid had his feet sticking out when they walked thru. They stopped and told him nicely to move his feet in. He didn't. Big mistake. They tore into him. The kid started acting like a manga/anime tough guy, clenching fists, gritting his teeth, spouting curses at them like he was about to explode. They didn't blink. They both grabbed him by the collar and forcibly dragged him off the train kicking and screaming.
As the train departed, I could see thru the windows those two 'pensioners' berating the 'tough guy' who was now bowing in apology.
    Gotta love it.

I get it, the guy is supposed to follow cultural norms and that’s reasonable but once the Japanese man laid hands on him it was fair game for the foreigner to knock him the fuck out. The Japanese might just sit by like another Tuesday and let someone attack them but a foreigner won’t and rightfully so. The man has now unjustifiably escalated a situation to a point it didn’t need to be raised to. Dude should’ve just taken a deep breath and walked away. Him coming back for action shows how hot headed he is.
Also everyone keeps saying you’re not supposed to eat or drink on trains, that’s definitely a lie lol. You can eat and drink all you want on the shinkansen. For Christ sake food is provided right in the stations. If they didn’t want people eating food there would not only be signs displayed but also there wouldn’t be such a strategic location for getting food.

These trains tend to get a lot more crowded and people are constantly moving in and out, so the chances of spilling your food and drink are much higher. Which is why food and drink are prohibited in there. The old guy was breaking some rules and the Japanese guy overreacted. That's all that happened here.

The man wearing a black shirt was talking on his phone with earplugs. It is not too noticeable unless you enhance the size of the screen. But, watching even from the default size of the screen, the white cord from his earplugs can be seen dangling in front of his shirt.
There appears to be an interruption in video recording between that time and immediately before the man in the white dress shirt exited the train. When the man in the white dress shirt exited, the man in the black shirt said that "I just got attacked". Whether or not that is true is uncertain. However, evidently, the man in the white shirt grabbed him after that statement was verbalised and attempted to grab him a second time. That would have been simple assault and is prosecutable under Article 226 of the Japanese Penal Code.
