@Jerry Muzak Sorry to hear of your loss. :-( Yeah, I know I'm six years late but I just saw your comment...I was here before you posted it. I hope you are managing okay and are staying safe. Know that your Utopian brothers and sisters are giving you virtual hugs. Peace, love and blessings to you.
I'd hate to think what the world would have been like without Utopia.Every member of the group was a maestro in their own right laying out well-crafted solid music.I salute you Todd,Kasim(you were exemplary here),Willie & Roger.
@@tommitchell8425 Saw them at the Fox Theater in St. Louis, MO when they were touring their Oops Wrong Planet album. Met the band outside of the backstage door and got to talk with Todd and Kasim. Todd and I spoke the most because Kasim was too busy checking out the females who were flashing their boobs. 🤣
And Utopia a ridiculously underrated and overlooked band. The truly great talent is sidelined for plastic, comparatively stupid crap. Sad, sad, sad...but, we have the recorded performances and Todd and Utopia are STILL WITH US!
I always wonder when people say that some musician is "underrated" or "sidelined" just because they never caught on with the radio biz. Kasim is not underrated at our house, or among many of our friends who are Utopia fans from way back.
So much fun they are having!!! And so much fun to watch and listen. Not perfect on the harmonies, but it doesn't matter, because it's close enough, and it's so full of joy and eagerness to both entertain the audience, and even entertain each other while they are performing. LOVED IT!
Is there no end to their talent?? Is never heard this until now. Thanks for posting? What other band could pull this off? None immediately spring to mind.
What a terrific song. I think the harmonies are fantastic and the piano music sounds great. It's amazing that such a great sound can be created with just one instrument. Thanks for uploading this to RUclips!
Holy cow... I am a Rundgren super-junkie, and never heard this EVER....what a treasure...Kasim, you rule and the backing singers are fantastic. Whoa...thank you for posting!!!
+Martin Brady Yea Martin, me too; seeing Todd live back in the seventies hooked me for life, this was Kasim's finest hour as well, what a great young singer/bassist - actually, they're all fucking amazing. Glad to see I'm not the only guy out there still nuts for Utopia...
These four guys have given me a Lifetime of music and that's more than anyone can ask of a band! I met all on the road during the 80's and they were genuine!
When i finally meet the one that i can well and truly call my own, i would Love to sing this accapella to her, and hope it echoes through us for a Lifetime .Don't cheat yourself, and until then; I'm counting the days. #LoveAlone
This is what you use to get from rock back in the day. A band or artist could do just about any form of music in any type genre. Electric, acoustic, acapella, Sondheim, barrelhouse, psychedelia, pop, classical you frick'in name it and many bands could do it. I truly feel lucky to have grown up with such great artists and music from the mid to late 60's and early to mid 70's. Not to be a downer but you just don't find that kind of variation in music in 21st century artists or bands. If you do, it's few and far between but back then it was ubiquitous. And most of that style of artist wasn't even found on the radio.
This version has long been my favorite version of this song. Much better than the version on Adventures in Utopia. This concert video this was taken from is flat out amazing.
Awesome version. The studio version had organ rather than piano, and the harmony vocals were less prominent, but it was tight for sure. What a treasure, with a great message & a gospel feel. Thanks!
Not one of their better songs but they (Utopia) always seem to think it is. Plus Kasim's voice always grates on me I'm affraid - its edge is rather harsh and whiny and always a bit shouty even when he's holding back. I'm impressed to see him play piano - never seen that from him before. Thanks for the upload.
STEELFIRE3698 That might be a factor in what I'm hearing - though I have no wish to upset everyone in New York. I do realise that a great many people really like his voice. Maybe it is because in Utopia I will always compare his voice to Todd's and Kasim's voice sounds to me like a blunt instrument next to Todd's immensely capable vocal artistry - that said, I even prefer Roger and Willies' voices to his.
@MissAstorDancer Have you tried to sing those harmonies??? Oh wait, you're a woman...well trust me for a guy that's pretty high for even the studio, much less a live performance! I like how Todd nailed it on "that can't be wrong" and seemed pleased! This is the best live version of this song I've found!
Yes, the PIANO is just a ... *classic sound* that will never grow old. While on "Adventures" that synth dates the song severely in the 80's with its schmaltzy "DX-7"-sounding string pads. Also, on record, we hear a finished product and take it for granted - here, it is live and still so exacting in its 4-part vocals, all rendered in real time, so it seems MIGHTY, which it is.
Does anyone have the full concert to upload? Loved this back in the 80"s and it goes without saying I can't find it anywhere. Please help this UTOPIA fan if you can. Thank you. Love IS the answer.
Utopia! Todd was ALWAYS sounding like this - harmony-wise - he just found mates that dedicated themselves to this project and would see it to the end ... of which I am eternally grateful!
Gorgeous.
For my wife, who passed away, 5 years ago, today.
Love and love......alone.

Sorry Jerry. My wife is still with me for 50 years. Love you Todd and Utopia
What a beautiful song. I heard it for the first time today.❤

I can't imagine my life without Todd Rundgren and Utopia! I'm 59 and has been listening to them since I was about 13!
What he said!
more talent in this band than in the entire current iTunes top 100
And, that's not saying much. lol
There is Todd's entire message in one song...Beautiful!
Oh how I miss REAL music! This is a breath of fresh air.
One of their sweet ones. Kasim's voice was one of the richest in 70's-80's rock.
Amazing! I wish these guys were still together.
BRILLIANT..........much better than studio version.
This line up of Utopia is my favorite.
ABSOLUTELY-
Saw this line -up at Berkeley Greek Theater CA
Totally fantastic 😊

Love Kasim, and really loved seeing Todd being goofy in the background. So playful and wonderful. LOVE this!
Kasim Sulton is a ridiculously underrated singer.
And an all-around friendly and humble guy.
the candle holder holds a candle for you. love your voice. keep singing you inspire me

I fucking love Kasim Sulton and Todd Rundgren! Listening to lots of Utopia lately! Still love Todd's "Hermit Of Mink Hollow" too!
Bread is awesome

I'm nuts for Utopia! I love them sooo much.
jbs428 I was raised on Todd and Utopia, will love them until I die
Utopia is always road trip music and one year I just realized just how much I loved them and became obsessed.
I absolutely love Todd beyond words but most of my fav utopia songs were sung by kasim, Roger or willie! Go figure!
Such tight, precise, harmony. Brilliance.
These four guys have given me a Lifetime of music and that's more than anyone can ask of a band! I met all on the road during the 80's and they were genuine!
This is the first time I've heard this song - honestly! I love it.
you look different
I love Todd's motioning to Roger to get closer to the mic. Always the sound master.
This live version is phenomenal. I prefer it to the studio version by a lot
All the guys in this band are super talented not just Todd Rundgren,
One of my favorite Utopia moments!

Thank you, Carlos Nishimiya, for this gift. (Stay healthy!)
Kaz is killing it on piano - I know he played guitar on Real Man and some others, but to play piano and sing lead is not easy.
Wow. I have the Utopia video collection and never knew this existed. Thanks!
thanks James. Now you can watch the entire concert:

I remember watching this live on a new thing called cable back in '83...
Beautiful job, Kasim! Wow!❤
What a song I love this Kasim you rock man ,get back together before you can't.
Roger and Wille are also amazing vocals as well. With out them it would not jelled.
How much fucking fun must it have been to be in this band?!?!?!

What a great performance! Thank you for posting this! Kasim is a genius.
I saw this live so many times...(The Chance) (club) I loved growing up in UTOPIA
That is cuter than a box full of puppies!! ((UTOPIA)) so sweeeet!
one of my favorite Utopia songs!
I saw them perform this on the Adventures in Utopia tour and it was just as charming, goofy and lovely as what you see in this video.

Man kas killed this performance, what a talent!
Kasim the best.I never heard this before I love Todd
I think Willie liked the chance to get out front and sing..
How cool is Kasim. The way he kind of plays with the camera with his eyes. The man us just full of boy charm. And so talented.
Hard to keep the pitch perfect in concert. The three part harmonies here remind me of Queen. Auto tune vocals need not apply!
New CD from Kasim Sultan has a new CD out Oct 2014
Love it, uplifting beautiful and soul satisfying

Just amazing Kaz is great.
This live piano version is vastly superior to the horrid synthesizer original on "Adventures"! For me the difference is like night and day.

A-men. Thanks, Perry! I've been commenting that all over since I first read this. 5 years and counting.
Bvox totally nailed that "all I know" lick at around 3:05
Is it just me, or does he sound like Paul McCartney? He also plays the bass (although, right-handed), and kinda looks like him a little.

Bohemian Rhapsody influenced???
