I like that you can add apps that's Apple TV doesn't have.

this would be amazing once you can connect chromecast/airplay and have a good remote(simpler than keyboard and mouse)… and simpler install

The AirMouse I use is very similar to a rempte; I am gonna look into adding an IR sensor and using a regular rempte control...

I like to tinker and always build before I buy - if I were going to use this as a FULL repacement, I'd go with the Pi 5 - but even on Pi 4 it works nicely.... I'm watching YT on it right now. :P

Its a terrible video that doesn't explain the most significant stuff.

I'd be curious about audio quality.... Does it support all the codecs? Does it support 4k?
Besides "Raspberry Pi" and "because I can" and full control, why would I choose this over any other $80~$100 android steaming box/stick?

Raspberry Pi 4 is good to 1080p, buy the 5 should do 4K - with a caveat; the widevine version will only so 1080p - so Netflix won't be as good as a 4K AppleTV. For the other streamers, tho, you'd be fine; RUclips Plex jellyfin etc. You're right - not an actual Apple killer - but I always prefer something I control.

How does it compare hardwarewise? I have a xiaomi TV box and its sluggish.

I used a Pi 4 and it's good enough for full screen 1080p... I think a Pi 5 would be perfect. I suppose it's not as polished as AppleTV, but I've been using it for months!

Sorry - how does this give us a device ID for the raspberry pi Android 15 device plugged into the TV ? Have you plugged this into your Mac and not told us a vital step?
Also the XDA website does not provide any insight into how to access Android command line tools etc - was trying to follow your demonstration, but you got to the hardest part and just DREW AN OWL.
Frustrating after an hour of work to have that thrown at me. Not sure what the point of this video is - is it just to show people you can do things and not help them?
    Weird way to behave.

Did you miss the adb command, and how to install adb? SSH is not required - derp.
      adb root
      adb shell 'sqlite3 /data/user/$(cmd activity get-current-user)/*/*/gservices.db \
"select * from main where name = \"android_id\";"'

Did I miss the ADB command? No. No I did not.
How is this going to work with your Raspberry pi? ADB is an Android Bridge - it MUST be connected to the Android Device - this is either with a USB cable or through ADB connect (which you can turn on via settings) - you mention not one word of this so stop being such smart alec.
Its incredibly rude and disrespectful to your audience when you have totally failed to make this basic functionality obvious.
With any other Android device it would need to be connected via USB cable - or SSH and SERIAL.
Finally the Commands you have listed will NOT WORK on any other device except MacOS in your terminal - some versions of Terminal for Linux may work. (There are new line separators, which means the terminal will have to enter into abd shell on the remote device, then enter sqllite and THEN you can issue commands to your device)
How about understanding what you are actually doing rather than watching other peoples You Tube videos then just rehashing things you have no clue about.
Also - stop commenting things like China - you are literally completely clueless on the issue - similarly with DeepSeek.
Just start a kids channel and blow up balloons, juggle and roll around on the floor with this absurd antics and carry on.
