4:49 Correction: You can still dodge the blue shell even if it's already launched. You just have to do so before the siren goes off. That indicates that you're it's target; and that it's too late to drop out. Luckily as mentioned, you're gonna be fairly close to other players when playing 150cc and Mirror mode. So it's easy to drop out or catch the other players in the explosion. Just make sure to drop out of first either before the siren goes off, or once you see it in a player's inventory on the touch screen.
Zy3rra You also don't need to be in first place in every lap. But I think it's a problem when you lag too far behind for too long in the race, that's when even winning the race seemed to be irrelevant.

A tip for Blue Shells (shaving a bit of time after Blue Shell impact): In courses that you may fall and get picked up by Lakitu, if a Blue Shell is locked on to you and you have no Mushroom or Star, make an "Intentional Fall" as soon as the Blue Shell arrives. You'll get picked up by Lakitu and if you time it just right, you'll get a small boost and return to your top speed immediately.

Still get utterly bullshitted. Just lost because 2 NPC's sped ahead of me at the last moment of the last lap of the last map of the cup. That's happened about 4 fucking times now. Thanks for tip though.
AreoStar True, but at least the red shell doesn’t stop you completely if you’re close enough to fall over the line. Without a mushroom, a blue shell is basically a guaranteed game over.
AreoStar What? How the hell does a red block a blue?? Same with bananas, etc. In order to block a blue with a shroom, you must use it in the last few frames of the blue shell crashing down on you
One more blue shell tip, u can avoid it with a mushroom. Right when it finishes swirling, use it. Although it has to be perfectly timed, it's more likely for you to have then a star. Hope this helps :)
Great tips GX. I recently completed Mirror Lightning Cup to get my 3 star rating, thanks to you. However, it is completely possible to dodge the blue shell in first. Although the chance is quite low, you can receive a single mushroom from an item box. If you see a blue shell, hold on to it. When it comes closer, and it's about to dive down right on you, use the shroom, and you should boost away from the explosion. The timing has to be extremely accurate; I've only done it twice. Thanks again!
Taking these tips are pretty important. Helped me conquer grand prix with all gold trophies and three stars within 4 days I downloaded this game. Only tip 5 didn't really make a difference because I have good memory to the point I can actually "mirror" my memory so I play it as if I was familiar rather than "I tried to drift but crashed" or "The place I thought a shortcut lied was actually a wall". Overall, the kart that helped complete it was the standard kart set.
I tried these tips so many times but every time I use them I get put in fourth place and get one star even if I get 3 1st places and one 4th or 3rd place I still get one star like what the hell? Isn't this supposed to be a kids game? why make every thing fucking difficult but good game though lol
3:32 Actually, there are some tips you left out. First, I looked at the instruction booklet, and the actual name for "Blue Shell" is "Spiny Shell" Anyway, here's the actual tips: In 150cc, the AI will not launch the Spiny Shell if you're not in first place Even if you're in 5th place, the Spiny Shell will still hit you and flip you, because in Mario Kart 7 its flight path travels along the ground.
Thank you so much! I had so much trouble , and after watching this video I just did it! I love all of your videos , tutorials and other content! Thank you
Also, don't bump into walls or obstacles, don't fall off the course, score 60 points as your grand total number of points, do as many tricks/tactics as you can, and don't use items to catch up to other players.
Two more things: Firstly, if you get the timing just right you can avoid a blue shell with a mushroom. You must hit the item just before the shell hits and you can speed out of harms way. Granted, i've only been able to do this once on Rainbow Road and one other time on MKWii. Super tricky but possible. (Not sure if it will work in flying sections.) Secondly, LOCAL MULTIPLAYER. Use this with at least one friend (more is better). In local multiplayer, playing Grand Prix mode counts toward your ranking records. (No Grand Prix option exists for online.) When playing, have one person take first place every time to have them earn the three star ranking. The second person plays as a defender and counters any item hits from the CPUs as well as attack any CPUs who get ahead or catch up to the first player. When a blue shell appears, the second player must take 1st in order to take the shell's hit and keep the first player going.
the game definitely keeps track of how long you're in 1st place. I got first in all four races ending with 40 points but I still only got 2 gold stars. I wasn't in first place the whole time for some of those races.
only had my 3ds a few days now, I love it so much. so far in MK7, I have all 3 stars in 50cc, mostly 2 and some 3 in 100cc, and some 1 mostly 2 in 150cc. this game is so fun
One way to avoid the blue shell that was not mentioned is not very well known to others, but it works wonders, if you have a mushroom and your 1st, save it for a blue shell, at the last second as it comes down use the mushroom. This requires practice and cannot be done just like that. This works because as the shell goes down, it no longer follows you but quickly drops down on a set location as it falls. This set location is a part of the track right under you. So if you boost, you go past it.
I have figured it out, i swear, because i have tried this several times on my friends games. In order to get a 3 star rank, u must get 1st in every race, and also get 10 coins on every race. Thumbs up so everyone can see. POSITIVE IT WORKS!!!
All these tips were spot on. another tip that might factor in is doing them in gyro mode, because when i have, I've been getting stars alot more consistently
Another way to avoid a blue shell is to fall off the track at the exact moment the blue shell would hit. You would only lose 3 coins, and although your items go away, you can't get hit while lakitu is carrying you.
I've experimented on the Blue Shell part. I saw a computer shoot a blue shell and I was still in first place, but when I realized it and the blue shell was shot, but didn't show up on the bottom map screen yet, I braked and let the 2nd place comp go 1st and then the blue shell got him/her instead even though it was used when I was still first.
To switch to first person view, you press up on the d-pad. In first person view, you can move your kart around using gyroscope controls or the circle pad.
just saying it is possible to dodge a blue shell this would tie into using the mushrooms strategically because if you use a mushroom as the blue shell is dropping you will quickly zoom out of the blast radius saving your lead and the race
there is a way to dodge blue shells by using a mushroom just as it attacks you. There are plenty of videos on youtube with this shown and I have pulled it of myself a couple of times. You can use the same technique in mariokart wii, as well as ds and double dash, but I think it is done differently in those two
Not reliable though, since you're not likely to have a mushroom in first place as it won't defend against red/green shells and it's not even a guaranteed way to avoid the hit, since the timing must be so precise.
In Double dash and DS you have to stop drifting at the same time the blue shell attacks you In Wii use a mushroom when the blue shell stops spinning. In 7 and 8(Deluxe) Use the mushroom at the exact time the blue shell chases down on you or in 8(Deluxe) (which is obvious) Use the super horn when it's about to blast you.
I just raced my first mirror track last night. It was Bowser's Castle. I wasn't exactly lost, being able to predict 90% of the lines for the turns. But it had me on the edge of my seat. If you have excellent spatial reasoning abilities, a mirror track is not exactly going to kick your ass. Or maybe it's just me. I have driven both right and left hand drive cars on both the right and left sides of the road. That is the closest you can get to mirror driving in the real world.
3:53 real talk you can also escape the blue shell by using a mushroom right when its about to hit you. I just did it on Koopa Beach and I had no setbacks
My tips to you: 1. ) Always slow down RIGHT BEFORE a Blue Shell hits you or once it starts swirling overhead. When you do this the coins you have pop out in front of you allowing you to quickly snatch up 1 or 2 after being hit. 2. ) You can ALWAYS drift/drive on the red/white striped areas on ALL courses!
also stay behind other karts for a few seconds to get a boost and when landing from the glider stay parallel to the ground to keep your speed. also when you crash into an item block press L so you will be able to get your item faster which can help if a red shell is about to hit you.
you can dodge blue shells if you use a very well timed mushroom which is an item you can get in 1st place, but it's still unlikley that you'll have one at the right moment.
According to Mariokart 7 Manual, in the Grand Prix instructions, Results Screen section: "If you finish in the top three, you will receive a trophy. Your driving technique will also be evaluated, with the highest rank being ***." Later, Driving Technique section, the driving techniques are: 1. Rocket Start 2. Drift 3. Mini Turbo 4. Super Mini Turbo 5. Jump Boost 6. Spin Turn If you don't know what these are, check the Manual by choosing the Mariokart 7 icon on the HOME menu and pressing Manual.
I know I'm pretty late but there is also one thing I've noticed while grinding for stars: point gaps. One time I got three stars while coming second in two races on the 150 flower cup, but when I checked the scoreboard, it turns out the best computer ended up coming last once (as you all know, there are always two specific computers per cup that always seem to come second or third after you throughout each race). So that's probably the case. Let's say Mario comes first each race, but Luigi (the good CPU) made it in second each time. As such, Mario would have 40 points and Luigi would have (I think 32; It's been a while since I've played MK7). That 8-point difference would result in a single star, but this may actually be because of consistent victories. However, let's say Luigi gets hit by a Blue shell and is knocked back a few places, and Metal Mario (that one CPU who is always in last), who happened to have a Bullet Bill at the time, makes it into second, catches up to Mario point-wise, but still lags far ahead due to getting 0 points in at least one race (say he reached 24 points by the results). Such a large gap compared to the 40 points Mario had would likely reach 3 stars, although the gap wouldn't need to be that big. But let's say that during the remaining races Luigi makes it back to around 29 or 30 points. This would probably result in Mario/the player getting 2 stars. So basically what I'm saying is, the bigger the gap between you and 2nd place by the results, the more stars you earn. I'm not saying this is correct in general, neither am I saying you're wrong, especially because taking your information into account also helps when getting stars and, in some sense, 100%ing MK7 (although I'm not sure whether you count all 3 stars on every cup 100% completion as opposed to unlocking all the karts, wheels and gliders), but I'm just laying down something I've noticed, and apparently in almost two paragraphs worth of a comment, so I'll just stop here.
And yes, I'm aware of the ideas that falling off, hitting walls, and staying far ahead in first with 10 coins is also needed, but I've tried many of these out and they didn't really work (except for falling off a few times) but, then how would I have gotten 2nd in a race and still gotten three stars? Still not trying to contradict what you are saying, nor am I trying to start arguments, but in the end, what has happened has happened.
Well GameXplain. Thanks to you, I only need to win few more cups until I reached 3-star rank. Thanks for the tip!! =D Speaking of which, I give you a little tip. You can dodge Blue/Spiny Shell using Mushroom. However, the timing needs to be correct. Also, when you have a banana try throwing it right behind the item box. That usually works for me.
Ok, I used to have: in 50cc mostly 2 star and 3 star, 100cc mostly 1 star and 2 star, 150cc all 1 star and in mirror mode 1 star and 2 star. Thanks to your tips, it worked! IT WAS WORTH IT!
A strategy I employ as often as I can is to hold on to a mushroom when I am in first place, because a well times boost can allow for the escape from a blue shell. The perfect scenario for me is to have three bananas behind me and have a mushroom waiting to be used. That way I have the red shell base and the blue shell base covered. Otherwise, I tend to favour the defense against the blue shell option, since that one is more punishing, and the red shell is more likely to fail at reaching you.
If you are on a straight road and a blue shell is launched, you can escape it by shooting a green or red shell behind you before the blue shell gets too close. I have done this before and it has saved me from losing my 1st place rank.
mk7 counts the time of each lap with each item you have, counts how long you are in each place, records how many coins you get over an average time slot, you must be at least a banana peel's throw distance away from second place on at least 2/4 races, and you must end the grand prix with all 40 points possible. If you get 2 stars once, it will be harder to get all 3 another time, because it goes by the average of your 1st place races. If you don't get 1st on a race, the best thing to do is quit the grand prix, and restart until you win every race.
Actually, there IS a way to avoid the blue shell in first. If you have a mushroom, you can use it before it hits you. You will miss the explosion therefore avoiding it.
I fell off when the blue shell was nearing me, it then went past and circled across the whole map, and when it got back and circled around me, it disappeared
I've done it many times already. There is literally only one moment where it can be done. It has to be perfect though. A good way to master this technique is by listening to the sound the blue shell makes. It helps a lot when trying to avoid it. Of course, you are going to have to do it a few times to know when listening to it will actually be effective.
It is possible to avoid a blue shell, however, a mushroom is required and perfect timing. The best defensive set up you can get is 3 bananas blocking incoming red/green shells and a mushroom in your reserve since you can ditch the bananas and avoid the blue shell. It might take some time to master and its difficult to actually get this set up, however, if you do manage to get it, the race should be an easy win.
There is a way to dodge the blues hell while still being in 1st place. What you do is to keep a mushroom with you in 1st place and don't waste it. When a blue shell is thrown wait for it to lock on you (this is when it hovers over you). At that exact moment use the mushroom and the blue shell will explode without locking on to the 1st place player. It's that simple
You can avoid blue shells with a mushroom. I rarely get a mushroom in first but I dodge them all the time I even taught my 8 year old how to do it. As soon as the shell is about to hit the ground you shoot off the mushroom and the shockwaves is left behind and you go untouched. It takes some calm nerves.
I think falling off the track does affect your rank. In the 150cc special cup, I got first place in every race, but I only got 2 stars. I fell a lot on Rosalina's Ice World and Rainbow Road.
XD! I felt SO good when I FINALLY dodged a Blue shell with a mushroom! It makes you feel REALLY good inside when you pull it off! I've done the dive off the cliff thing too, but mostly on accident (though in some levels, it can help more than hurt, like when Lakitu puts you further ahead from where you fell). I just wish 1st place got a mushroom more often. It's almost taboo to give 1st place a mushroom, which is a pain.
“Unfortunately, there’s no way to dodge a blue shell once it has you in it’s eyes.”

AreoStar True, but at least the red shell doesn’t stop you completely if you’re close enough to fall over the line. Without a mushroom, a blue shell is basically a guaranteed game over.
AreoStar What? How the hell does a red block a blue?? Same with bananas, etc.
In order to block a blue with a shroom, you must use it in the last few frames of the blue shell crashing down on you
AreoStar ok then
@@jden_224 Pretty much any power-up hitting me right before I cross the finish line is the worst.
One more blue shell tip, u can avoid it with a mushroom. Right when it finishes swirling, use it. Although it has to be perfectly timed, it's more likely for you to have then a star. Hope this helps :)
how do you get the mirror mode
undertale sans really? just finish 150cc. and there you have it.
How do you not know that???
undertale sans finnish 150cc
Thank you soooo much! After a month of patience, today I bought mk7 ! This video is amazing
Anyone 2022? 😂
2024😂😂
2025😂😂😂

It doesn't just have to be kids playing Mario Kart.
Matthew Martinez I think thevgame itself is very easy but the AI is bullcrap
3:32 Actually, there are some tips you left out. First, I looked at the instruction booklet, and the actual name for "Blue Shell" is "Spiny Shell" Anyway, here's the actual tips:
In 150cc, the AI will not launch the Spiny Shell if you're not in first place
Even if you're in 5th place, the Spiny Shell will still hit you and flip you, because in Mario Kart 7 its flight path travels along the ground.
si se puede esquivar la concha azul , cuando la concha va lla a caer utiliza un hongo para avanzar dale me gusta o like ysi te sirvió mi comentario

Thank you so much! I had so much trouble , and after watching this video I just did it! I love all of your videos , tutorials and other content! Thank you
The best way to get 🌟🌟🌟 is by getting 1st on every lap on every race!
hmmmmm acually i got 2 on 2nd lap then 1st on 3rd lap then 1st so i got 3 stars im trying to figure out how its possible
I think they out blue sheals into considerations
No, only the last lap matters, all you need to do is the last lap, also don't fall off more tan once in the entire cup.
Also, don't bump into walls or obstacles, don't fall off the course, score 60 points as your grand total number of points, do as many tricks/tactics as you can, and don't use items to catch up to other players.
Two more things:
Firstly, if you get the timing just right you can avoid a blue shell with a mushroom. You must hit the item just before the shell hits and you can speed out of harms way. Granted, i've only been able to do this once on Rainbow Road and one other time on MKWii. Super tricky but possible. (Not sure if it will work in flying sections.)
Secondly, LOCAL MULTIPLAYER.
A good cart combination is good too. Carts with great handling are key in later cups.
3:21 you can easy a dodge blue shell with a mushroom in just the right time not early or late Just perfect timing.
the game definitely keeps track of how long you're in 1st place. I got first in all four races ending with 40 points but I still only got 2 gold stars. I wasn't in first place the whole time for some of those races.
Once had a two star overall rank, now have a three star overall rank. All thanks to you bud.
Just earned my 3rd profile star. Couldn't have done it without these tips, thanks!
only had my 3ds a few days now, I love it so much. so far in MK7, I have all 3 stars in 50cc, mostly 2 and some 3 in 100cc, and some 1 mostly 2 in 150cc. this game is so fun
The Spiny Shell can be dodged with a well timed Mushroom.
Those tips were very helpful, and I actually got a 3 star rank in mario kart 7. Thank you GAMEXPLAIN 👍😃 your the best.
But good luck getting a mushroom in 1st place.
there is a way to dodge blue shells by using a mushroom just as it attacks you.
Jamie Twells It's better than nothing though, and usually worth hanging onto a mushroom if playing against CPU's or in a low skill room
james cooper Maybe, but I disagree, I think green shells/ bananas are better than mushrooms in first place.
In Double dash and DS you have to stop drifting at the same time the blue shell attacks you
In Wii use a mushroom when the blue shell stops spinning.
My tips to you:
1. ) Always slow down RIGHT BEFORE a Blue Shell hits you or once it starts swirling overhead.
The fact that I got a 3 star rank in special 150cc after watching this proves this works
Gamexplain
- i got the 3 star rank because of your tips it took time but its worth it! so thx alot
you can dodge blue shells if you use a very well timed mushroom which is an item you can get in 1st place, but it's still unlikley that you'll have one at the right moment.
According to Mariokart 7 Manual, in the Grand Prix instructions, Results Screen section:
"If you finish in the top three, you will receive a trophy. Your driving technique will also be evaluated, with the highest rank being ***."
Later, Driving Technique section, the driving techniques are:
1. Rocket Start
2. Drift
3. Mini Turbo
4. Super Mini Turbo
5. Jump Boost
6. Spin Turn
If you don't know what these are, check the Manual by choosing the Mariokart 7 icon on the HOME menu and pressing Manual.
I refuse to believe this game is 9 years old
Well GameXplain. Thanks to you, I only need to win few more cups until I reached 3-star rank. Thanks for the tip!! =D
Speaking of which, I give you a little tip. You can dodge Blue/Spiny Shell using Mushroom. However, the timing needs to be correct.
Also, when you have a banana try throwing it right behind the item box. That usually works for me.
Ok, I used to have: in 50cc mostly 2 star and 3 star, 100cc mostly 1 star and 2 star,
150cc all 1 star and in mirror mode 1 star and 2 star. Thanks to your tips, it worked!
IT WAS WORTH IT!
4:15 **When u have your 3ds but your friend doesn't**
3:39. A Star or Shroom, A Shroom Can dodge a Blue shell if u get the right timing
mk7 counts the time of each lap with each item you have, counts how long you are in each place, records how many coins you get over an average time slot, you must be at least a banana peel's throw distance away from second place on at least 2/4 races, and you must end the grand prix with all 40 points possible.
FYI you can still dodge the blue shell with a mushroom or a correctly timed boost/mini-turbo
I fell off when the blue shell was nearing me, it then went past and circled across the whole map, and when it got back and circled around me, it disappeared
tanuki tails can also defend you from shells
I use them normally to defend myself to red shells
I've done it many times already. There is literally only one moment where it can be done. It has to be perfect though. A good way to master this technique is by listening to the sound the blue shell makes. It helps a lot when trying to avoid it. Of course, you are going to have to do it a few times to know when listening to it will actually be effective.
Awesome! thanks to tip 4, I am able to get 3 people caught in a blue shell explosion!
The Lucky Seven looks like the three sevens you need to get in Super Mario Sunshine on the casino part of Sirena Beach episode four
thanks for the tips and also i knew some of these tips either 2-6 of these
It is possible to avoid a blue shell, however, a mushroom is required and perfect timing.
Thanks so much! This helped me a lot! :D I gave you a big sub and a like!
I remember coming to the video years ago to as a guide. Andre’s tone has really changed over the years lol
