Pretty cool reference that almost nobody got
This may be my favorite mariokart game. The only bad thing about it is that all the amazing retro tracks included in it mean that we didn't get glorious hd remakes of those tracks in MK8, haha. I like how DK Jungle uses one of the main melodies for Donkey Kong Country. Very clever! 8. I think it’s amusing that Wiggler gets mad after he gets hit by an item. This is one of my favorite Mario Kart Games. There's a lot of different tracks per cup, and that's why I love it so much. Music Park and Waluigi Pinball are like, the best tracks

The tanuki suit is probably one of the worst item of all time in mario kart : It's useful only if you're near other characters but you get it more often when you're first; while using it, you can't hold another item (which means you can collect other item boxes if you get this item), and finally it's impossible to "throw it away" if you don't want it (like a banana or a shell), you're forced to use it and to keep it for a certain period of time (and once this period of time is done, you're totally defenceless because you can't hold another item). The only existance of this item makes me not wanting to play this game, even thought I think it's good...
The best thing about this game is the track selection. MK8 is slated to contain the most top tier tracks available in one Mario Kart game, but MK7 pound for pound has some of the best tracks of all time. Vastly underrated.

Here's some more you didn't mention: You don't need to beat insane goals to unlock more characters and karts. Just beat every cup in 150cc to unlock all the characters and mirror mode, and keep collecting coins to unlock random parts for your vehicle. This is the first Mario Kart to have a retro Rainbow Road track, besides Super Circuit of course. Mario Circuit is a great throwback to Royal Raceway and Mario Raceway from Mario Kart 64. It's full of beautiful spring blossom trees and you can drive inside of Peach's castle for the first time ever! Wario's Galleon is a nice throwback to Wario Land: Shake It, set in a stormy underwater track where you drive through sunken pirate ships.
This game has EASILY the best retro course selection in the entire series! It brought back multiple fan favorites from every previous entry with the only exception being Mario Kart: Super Circuit. Also, they brought back the 4 absolute best possible Wii tracks to return!
