The way of singing is called "White Voice", traditional in Eastern European countries. To me this is THE best track in this years Eurovision. Love from the Netherlands ;)
This song is so psychedelic that I can hardly listen to anything else. I keep hitting the replay button on a daily basis ever since I heard it for the first time. For the first time in my life I can empathyze with drug addicts, seriously. Listening to this song I know exactly how high one can feel.
Hello from Ukraine and thanx a lot for such a beautiful reaction! As for the band, Go_a, they first formed in 2012, so they are not exactly novices, even though they've been going through quite a few line-up changes since their formation. The four band members of today come from very different and distant parts of Ukraine. Actually, two of them, including the guy playing the Ukrainian flute, sopilka (by the way, he can play more than 30 different instruments!), and the guy with the bass guitar come from the western Ukraine, the singer, Katya Pavlenko, is from an ancient but now not very big town in the north of Ukraine, whereas Taras Shevchenko, the founding member, is from Kyiv. Incidentally Taras shares both name and surname with Ukraine's most prominent XIX century poet, and there's also a famous footballer of the same surname. Katya Pavlenko, the singer, has been engaged in folk music for many years: she sings, she collects folk songs, and she even leads a choir of veterans singing folk. And now about this year's Eurovision entry. Shum means 'noise', but it's also the name of an ancient, pagan times, pra-Slavic deity of forest. When spring comes, he awakens from winter slumber and you begin to hear all kinds of sounds ('noise') in the forest. Our ancestors used to perform special rituals to call spring, to make it come sooner, to awaken Shum. And that's what we actually see - a ritual, a wizardry, a magic rite meant to awaken anybody who needs to be awaken from anything you'd like to be awaken from. From the long winter, the pandemic, the dirty undeclared war our country is still going through because of putin's crazy ambitions, the radiation pollution (there was Chernobyl in the video), etc. You name it. When the ritual begins, we see some strange creatures coming from the forest when hearing the song. I believe, they are smaller forest spirits, mavkas and lisovyks. They take off their drab winter attire and throw it into the fire, symbolising the Sun. And become bright and colorful, exactly like trees in the forest in spring. There's one more symbol here, clear for us, Ukrainians: the bird, the falcon. We regard it as our totemic bird. Sort of. Even our national symbol, the tryzub (trident), is often seen as a falcon taking an attacking dive. And it's simply a beautiful bird, imho :)
Wow! You went full out haha! Thank you very much for that! 😊 Greetings from UK, and thank you for watching! I'm very excited to see Go_A live, I'm obsessed with this entry and I can't wait to see them qualify! Best of luck! 😁
The video was also made near the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. That is why hazmat suits and the whole "radioactive" rave; as well as bringing up the pandemic theme, combining with the folk singing.
I totally agree - Ukraine is so good! I feel like they're so underrated in general 😞 A total Eurovision beast imo (btw you're so calm in this video I love it hahah)
I agree with you! Ukraine is the country I think of when talking about ESC. For me, over the years that I have watched, Ukraine has always had contributions that capture me with the song and stage performance that makes me forget that I do not know the language. You have discussed it in previous videos regarding whether the country's contribution songs in its language if it can have a meaning, I think then that Ukraine has managed to create contributions that capture me with the song and the stage performance that enchants me without thinking that I do not know the language. Like your videos a lot!!!
OMG. I LOVE this soooo much. This is an incredible folk/EDM banger!! Hopefully it will qualify from the extremely competitive semi-final 1. This is one of my biggest favorites at this year's Eurovision! Go A! Go Ukraine!!
I agree, this song was exactly what Eurovision should be all about. Just experiment with EU languages and genres into something new and amazing sounding.
Love your reaction, you got it all right! Thank you for your heart! Interesting how people cling in their p[inions despite different countries! P.S. and Yes! There is "Room For Shum!" !!! :)

The group has been around since at least 2016; I like ruclips.net/video/rcipIkESsfk/видео.html very much (anthem style, with the flute/recorder, but not in white voice). This Slavic style of singing was popular in the late 1980s through a Bulgarian Women's Choir, e.g., ruclips.net/video/S4iFF79zBJQ/видео.html. Thanks for posting these, Jaryd; also like the ones with you & Rob.
@@JarydReacts Oh no! Was more than happy to see a new reaction video though (keep 'em coming!) - love your insightful and respectful approach. It's clear you have nothing but love for the contest.
I’m 1million percent in the minority but this is not my cup of tea and I just don’t get it. I can appreciate that many fans do love it though. Ukraine being sandwiched between Azerbaijan and Malta might be a disadvantage. Also considering how much of a blood bath semi 1 is gonna be this could not qualify, whereas more mainstream radio friendly entries that are borderline like Croatia or Ireland could qualify.
That's fair! I did pointed out the high, nasal frequency of her voice. I just love that, because it's so distinctive and sounds perfect for folk music 😊
12 points if you can guess who can't pronounce Verka Serduchka's name correctly.

@@JarydReacts You should check the Polish entry for 2019 as well. Tulia, also using this unique singing technique.
Yes they did, and I was annoyed they didn't qualify, I thought that entry was superb
@@JarydReacts I loved it as well. Very very underrrated entry!
