    There's something wrong with the pitch in New York. And it's soon going to host one of the biggest cricket matches of this calendar year. So what's the issue exactly? And how did we land up here? Let's try and get to the bottom of it in this video.

    The Monty Python sketch that never was. The ICC criticising, explaining to, and sanctioning itself.
    The fine imposed on itself is just enough to cover the costs of the whole investigation, which mysteriously takes place in a luxury Caribbean hotel complex, and takes six months.

    there is some irony that Ireland are playing half their campaign on this thing - the ICC will put up a 34,000 capacity stadium in a former car park to be used for a couple of weeks, but won't lend Cricket Ireland a hand to get a permanent ground built in Dublin

    I attended the Ireland-Canada match because I had never attended a live cricket match and living in NY this was a potential once in a lifetime opportunity to see a 20/20 World Cup match (a format I enjoy most). I enjoyed it but as a novice with limited understanding of the sport the issues you described were something I didn't recognize so I found the video to be quite educational and informative. Locally the biggest issue/complaint (the one leading to smaller than expected crowds) is the price of tickets being ridiculously expensive. I went to the particular match mentioned because it was the only affordable one on the secondary market (paid $39) and box office price would've been close to $70 (any of the other matches would have been far more expensive). 10:30 am on a weekday isn't optimal for drawing big crowds either. If you are looking for a silver lining to this story when the stadium is torn down the cricket ground will remain a permanent cricket ground for recreational leagues. Who knows, maybe years from now after it has been a cricket ground for years and all the kinks have been ironed out it can host an international tournament and this time get it right. I can only hope.

      The American pitches(Two paced, variable bounce difficulty in scoring off the pitch....) except for the outfield is the perfect pitch with proper difficulty level with teams with world class batters in an even battle with freak bowlers.. that's cricket.... But IPL crybabies only care about Flat pitches...
      This world cup has been absolutely AWESOMEEEEE SO FARRRR..Cricket is not about sixes and fours it's about even contest and good fight between bat and ball .look at this world cup
      1. Namibia vs Oman low scoring thriller with super over
      2. West indies vs PNG .PNG took the match to the last over
      3. USA beat Pakistan... in another super over match
      4. Canada beat Ireland.. another down the wire match
      5. Afg won against NZ by 84 runs... brilliant display of bowling...
      6. Bangladesh beat Srilanka today.. but even 125 target turned into a low scoring thriller . because both bowling units were competitive..and everyone was at the edge of their seats.. when will runs come / when will wicket fall
      7. Plus we have had a high scoring match like USA vs Canada and Aus vs Eng as well (being the rare 200 scoring match and that's what it should be 200s should be difficult and rare) hence the speciality....
      8. A few dominating matches are needed also like India dominated over Ireland, South Africa over Srilanka
      9. Even Netherlands had taken south Africa their worst poweplay in history and took it to the end
      10. Ind vs Pak...Pak bowled out India for 119 in 19 overs and lost by 6 runs with 3 wickets remaining.. you can't make this up.. now that's a fight..
      Flat pitches destroy cricket ... A 150 avg scoring match where bat vs ball contents is even is much more entertaining and good for the tournament...
      The only people who have a problem are IPL crybabies

      @@syeedchowdhury2501I actually agree with you. Back in the day a required run rate of 8-9 an over was considered difficult because hitting the ball to the boundary not only required skill but the ability to read and react to the ball with proper execution and timing.
      But this IPL made a mockery of that where targets of 200-260 were getting chased down. The constant six hitting just killed all the tension in the match because runs were being scored with ease.
      What makes the sport fun is when every run needs to be fought hard for and the match could turn at any point.
      I know people complain about the New York pitch but the unpredictability is what makes this fun and it actually brings back balance between Bat and Ball. For the first time in a while it actually felt like a required run rate of 7 an over seemed hard.
      This world cup has been more thrilling than the IPL.

Watching Bowlers defend low scores with matches going for last Overs making heartbeat fluctuate till the end not knowing what could happen even in T20s was a good & much needed change. I never hated T20s but definitely didn't like what it became.
      Some fans probably just like to watch only 6s & huge scores. But I think some fans for some reasons also wanted Americans to be introduced to a major Cricket event with constant raining of 6s & 200+ average scores & that didn't happen upsetting many of those fans who are now saying this was a bad promotion of the game to the Americans. I think a good Bat vs Ball contest would always be a good promotion of the game to new audience.

    One thing to add here is that they wanted to use the athletic surfaces in Van Cortland Park in the Bronx, same ones that New York University uses for athletics, and that was the plan for the first two years until some local residents complained to the city council that they wouldn't be able to use the park fully during the world cup, and also impuning the likelihood of good crowds there and thus convinced the New York City Council that it was unjustified. This was set up last minute because the ICC managed to trigger U.S. not in my backyard activists otherwise known as NIMBYs.

    Do you think that all teams playing in New York should spend at least the first 7 overs playing defence and getting quick 1s or 2s and then really target the spinners as there is a lower "safety hazard" of playing spin, especially if they do so at the pitch of the ball?

    • @JarrodKimberYT
      @JarrodKimberYT  2 месяца назад +2

      I think they should boycott. Teams will bowl less spin. But spinners are tough to because of the inconsistency and stoppy nature of the wicket. But yes they're a lot more easy to score off on this wicket. But I don't think teams will use much spin from here on in. Kulderp and shamsi were dropped already.

    As much as its true that both teams face the same conditions, and that with so little knowledge of or understanding the importance of not just the pitch but the outfield etc, I see no excuses given how much money is pumped into Olympics, NFL, MLB stadiums and venues in the US that they couldn't get this right given the time and resources of the ICC and the USA.
    You can get poor playing conditions anywhere of course but if the goal was to endear the cricketing world to the USA as a host or the USA to become part of it and adopt it these issues are likely to set it back somewhat. It could have been made as true and as perfect as is possible but it seems building a large capacity venue superceded the actual surface the game is played on.

    Time to let it go, Jarrod. The pitch in the India/Pakistan had some two paced movement, but it was a magnificent game and everyone had a tremendous time, except of course Pakistan at the end, but that was their fault for leaving too many runs on the board with Bumrah steaming in for the 19the over. The tournament is absolutely fascinating, a great spectacle, and those of us here in the US who love cricket are over the moon that the ICC has the enterprise to explore the game’s serious expansion here.

    I live in Berlin and as a side gig, coach cricket at a University. When I reached out to the German cricket board for funding to get nets built, the response was that the ICC will only fund playing surfaces and not practice surfaces. Bearing in mind that the two actual pitches in Berlin are constantly being used for practice by the clubs. There are simply no funds from the ICC for even a small net.
    Yet they throw millions at this Nassau ground and pitch, which quite likely might end up being abandoned or torn down at the end of this clown fiesta. All so that the desis can be milked for yet another overhyped India vs Pakistan game at 11 in the morning in NY.

    • @NYSports14
      @NYSports14 Месяц назад

      The two are extremely similar in size, weight and hardness. Baseballs travel just as fast and slightly faster for some of the absolute hardest throwers. The ball did not hit his collarbone, did you watch the video? It hit his shoulder. Regardless, baseball players very often get hit with balls just as hard and fast in equally or more vulnerable places (ex hands with less padding than cricket players) and don’t miss games. This is so soft, and baseball players aren’t exactly notorious for being tough

    • @timothystamm3200
      @timothystamm3200 Месяц назад

      @NYSports14 it's harder, and I saw it hit the collar and move on to the shoulder, and yes, baseball players do miss games for getting hit in the shoulder if it breaks something. Getting hit in Baseball or Cricket is no joke. Also, the baseball has usually gone further before it hits someone than a cricket ball. This means that less velocity from the throw has been lost. Also, your certainly tough, jackass, for claiming that they're babies for leaving after getting hit by a ball that bounced in a direction no one expected it to. I might have left because I wouldn't be sure of my eyes at that point and would be afraid that one might accidentally hit me in my neck because I hadn't anticipated, nor the bowler intended, that bounce and thus I hadn't defended against it. Even if he wasn't hurt, it's in his prerogative to leave the field at any time if he feels it's unsafe. In fact, the Umpire maybe should have called the match after seeing the batter, and the bowler both reacted like they hadn't expected the exact ricochet that had hit the batter.
