what have you seen? alonso is history since years.. i like him - but he´s done.. i´m sure, he quits f1 next year greets.. i watched again - just to please you he´s way to old to make it What he arranged why I can not understand he´s a crazy diva
Makes me smile to see Americans receive Alonso like that. He really is amazing. Could have had that one. Still he got to race and did a great job regardless.
The race is blacked out here in indy so I decided to ride with Fernando live in his in car camera on the ESPN app. I've been watching this race for 45 years and I have never been more impressed with a drivers skill. I put him right up there with the best I've ever seen
Alonso is a Legend... Only one real week in a indycar, and he is clearly at the level of drivers that have years of experience.. Leading 1/3 of the race.
Elbucho1 Chicago Sim Racers I want to see Hamilton grow a pair and try an Indy 500 or Daytona 500. Hamilton says he wants to do NASCAR so bad so why not lol
Great job, Fernando, that was a great race which you would finish in top 5 without this engine problems. I hope you will try indy 500 again next year. All the best from Serbia.
what a gentleman ! he knows fans and media are on him from past few weeks, thanks them, shows them respect and lifts his carton of milk , I salute this man !
This is the first time i ve seen Fernando being emotional and total himself at total eased ! Make no mistake about it he is Lionheart all the greats in f1 has admitted when it comes to raw driving talent Fernando is the best ,i think he drove a very mature clean race in spite of the end result just to show what a great driver he is ! Well done Fernando
A classy driver. I hope he comes back to try again. He made the right choice,vs wasting time at Monaco. He had a strong chance here, and simple racing misfortune denied him. Yeah, the Hondas are fragile, but it was a Honda that won.
Well yeah, most of the cars use Honda, so the probability that an Honda car won was pretty high. Even so, 3 of their cars broke down during the race, on of them being Alonso's.
Gutted. I real wanted him to challenge for the win over the bricks on the final lap. Fantastic measured performance from him and the team. Well done to Sato.
You can really tell Zak is a fan of Fernando, he is the boss but he admires him and respects him big time, being a racer himself. It's a great partnership and they will do amazing things together....they already are.
First time watching the Indy 500 to see him, and what a race. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I Never thought oval races could be so exciting
Looking at him smile again almost brings a tear to the eye. Go Alonso! You showed the world that you have it. Here's to prayers that Honda eventually gets their act together.
Alonso has been a class act since day 1. Sorry for his hard luck, but he should be proud of this achievement. Congrats to Takuma Sato, Andretti and Honda HPD for the win.
This is amazing. Even while ultimately suffering another engine failure, seeing the smile on his face makes me incredibly happy. This man obviously has the chops for so much more. If Alonso can take the Triple Crown he absolutely deserves it.
Congratulations Fernando, I am venezuelan, but I really feel happy for you, for the new approach you gave to this race. For sure the whole europe was paying attention... Great dude!
I'm impressed and grateful to see the respect and admiration that American fans feel for Fernando. Thank you guys. With that welcoming and the level of fun that he has experienced I'd say he's coming back next year again (and I'm looking forward to seeing that race already!)
terrible shame. I'm a Lewis fan but have never stopped loving this guy. one of the most complete pilots in the world. hope his luck turns around soon. deserves to be in an ultimate car package
Nathan Morssali I was saying it how he always throws a jab in most press conferences. However he has a history after his first two championships of picking the wrong teams, he is one of if not the best. Put him in a Ferrari and he would put them all in the dust.
znmo0nlight you mean when Ron Dennis said to Hamilton that they were racing Alonso even though he should have supported both drivers equally? You mean when Alonso got a penalty because Hamilton didnt stick to the teams plan in Hungary which cost Alonso alot of points? You mean when he had no support from the team bosses at the end of the season and still finished with the same amount of points as Hamilton?
He is paid by Honda, not by McLaren - a strange contract for a F1 driver to be contracted by the engine supplier. That is the reason he was able to do the Indy 500.
As Alonso supporter im feel very proud to watch my favorite driver race in Indy 500. He has show to all of us what kind of person and driver is. You have to be brave to left Monaco Grand Prix away and race like a rookie in Indy 500. This time the final result was not what we expected due a broken Honda again. No problem, more than one pilot in Monaco said "I would like to be there in Indy". Now the american competition is closer than before and is because Fernando has jumped the rules. Now im counting down and looking fordward to see again Fernando triying to win in Indy. Very happy for the competition and for the fans. Now motorsports is is funniest than before. Thats all!!!!.
Bravo Fernando!!bravo Magic!!
I love how Alonso goes out there and in an incredibly dangerous race without crashing and Honda has some of the best qualified engineering teams in the world but can't make a working car....
What a great two weeks this was for Alonso, his fans, and especially for Indycar. After the 100th running of the Indy, and the relative disinterest outside of that race during the season, I was worried for the league's long-term viability. I still am worried, but hopefully this bump from Alonso can help the sport's global popularity. He definitely put on a great show.
Amazing what he accomplished today with only a month to prepare. I really hope he will be back. Wold class driver and it shows both on and off the track.
I hadn't watched Indy racing in over 2 decades and this brought me back. I really enjoyed the racing and it reminded me how exciting oval racing can be.
I couldn't stop my little son crying yesterday after his engine failure, after almost 3 hours with the "dear God" within the lips... but he will be back and win, I'm so sure.
He was leading some laps and he just kept 3 weeks to prepare this race. I think he is a very good driver, and i wish he can rise up and demostrate to the whole world who Fernando Alonso was, and who Fernando Alonso is. His engine broke up, however, he keeps smiling, and he never gives up.
Big Vettel fan here...never thought i will cheer for nando in any race like I did today...and when he was leading I was like "goo make f1 proud"....and finally when it blows "fu honda honestly WTF"..such a heartbreak poor nandoo
I've been following F1 since I was a kid, from the days of Jacky Ickx, Jacky Stewart, Jochen Rindt et all, in the late sixties and I feel that Alonso is the most naturally gifted pilot I've ever seen. Enjoyed the Indy 500 (thanks to jumping from one live-stream to the next on YT) but turned it off after Alonso's engine croaked. Although it was a very intense finish, I was too devastated too continue watching, after having seen both McLarens drop out of the Monaco F1 race earlier in the day. I hope McLaren will be able to rurn things around, or, should I say Honda, as the F1 chassis is more than okay but Honda doesn't get the train on the rails for three years in a row now. Anyway, I enjoyed the Indy 500 (watched the last 28 rounds in delay just now) and would be glad if some or other US TV-provider would get it into the Digital TV package I subscribed to, so I'd be able to watch both F1, NASCAR and IndyCar. Cheers to Alonso for a magnificent maiden Indy 500 month and to Takuma Sato for winning.
I don't know how this guy stays so composed. Realistically every interview he gives should basically be a middle finger to Honda. I can't imagine what he felt, after unbelievably being in the top 10 for all 180 laps, he starts to move forward to make his final push to the end and his Honda engine blows up again. He might not have actually won in the end but he made it all the way to the final laps as the guy that looked most capable of winning and certainly would have been there fighting. The guy is a living legend.
As a long time American F1 fan(Specifically McLaren)..... I have got to say that the Indycar community and fan base has ALWAYS BEEN AMAZING!!!!! The way you guys embraced Fernando and even Rubens Barichello in 2012 makes me remember why I follow both. The F1 community can learn A LOT from you guys.
Honda: (not) the power of (Alonso's) dreams. Nice to see Alonso having fun for a change, we know he's a great driver but to switch discipline and do so well was fantastic. Shame drivers can't do it as much as the old days.
What a class act, I've never really been a fan of Alonso but always had huge respect for him as a driver, I believe he's out of contract at McLaren this year and it wouldn't surprise me at all to see him get a seat in IndyCar next season, if he's that good on an oval I can't imagine how awesome he'd be on the road courses. Well done Fernando you're a superstar.
well done Fernando!!! true racer, agree totally, me and my son watched race and found it so much more exciting than the earlier F1 race, shame about car blowing engine, but hold your head high mr Alonso a true champion and racer, my fellow brit mr Hamilton should watch and learn from this example set by a true great of motor sport
I never loved Fernando even if I watch every F1 races since 1996, but he is a great driver. I am very happy that he came to Indy 500, and I hope more drivers will come in the future. It makes me love them more hahaha! And congrats to Sato, he always give a good show. Peace!
With ONLY a month of preparation has been in firsts positions almost the entire race. Legend.
Strat he lead the third most amount of laps in the end i believe
Strat he led for 27 laps of 200 ... hardly the entire race. What race were you watching?
I say "firsts positions".
Perry Bush He had the fastest average lap times until his engine failed.
The same race jajaj on TOP5 all the race, THE BEST.
a world class act, there's no better active driver in the world to day.
legend!!!!
what have you seen?
alonso is history since years..
i like him - but he´s done..
i´m sure, he quits f1 next year
greets..
i watched again - just to please you
he´s way to old to make it
What he arranged why I can not understand
he´s a crazy diva
MrVideostreamer he's done, lol you've no idea what your on about!
It is enough to see what it achieves
What a legend!
Makes me smile to see Americans receive Alonso like that. He really is amazing. Could have had that one. Still he got to race and did a great job regardless.
LazyRock Alonzo is technically white so it's not that hard for Americans to accept him
ahah
justAguyDs Seriously?
So exciting when he leaded the race for first time!!! man almost teared when the engine betrayed him
We were all gutted... all I could think of was Bahrain earlier, "Engine... problem... box now..."
Mew Two alonso and everybody else in mclaren must feel miserable asf this year
Amazing race. He did it even better than I spected. Great pilot and great show.
Please come back again!!!
He'll be back, but he won't have a Honda behind him.
well he will probably have
Dr. Bananable Lector let's hope that comeback with chevy lolz
The race is blacked out here in indy so I decided to ride with Fernando live in his in car camera on the ESPN app. I've been watching this race for 45 years and I have never been more impressed with a drivers skill. I put him right up there with the best I've ever seen
Very professional. classy.
Alonso is a Legend... Only one real week in a indycar, and he is clearly at the level of drivers that have years of experience.. Leading 1/3 of the race.
27 of 200 isn't 1/3rd...
Fernando thank you and please come back . I hope other elite drivers come to run the Indy 500 now that you showed how special this place is.
Elbucho1 Chicago Sim Racers I want to see Hamilton grow a pair and try an Indy 500 or Daytona 500. Hamilton says he wants to do NASCAR so bad so why not lol
ThatoneElliottfan24 His contract terms don't allow him to.
Kanav Kapoor I know. :(
He's a special talent. lead the 2nd most laps, he will have his day.
What a hero. I got chills when he took the lead. I hope he comes back every year!
Great job, Fernando, that was a great race which you would finish in top 5 without this engine problems. I hope you will try indy 500 again next year. All the best from Serbia.

A great example of humility and a testament to his character. I lift up my milk carton to you lol.

Gutted. I real wanted him to challenge for the win over the bricks on the final lap.
Fantastic measured performance from him and the team. Well done to Sato.
Out About If his engine didn't die, he probably could have made up every position.
Yes. Being a little back in the pack is perfectly normal on ovals.
I had no doubt Alonso was going steam his way back up. Such a shame..
I never liked him since I was a Schumi fanboy but in recent years he has proven himself over and over, respect
What a guy ! Love you Fernando
Well done Alonso you've done us proud, better luck next time.
PUTOAMO,
This guy is simply a legend
Looking at him smile again almost brings a tear to the eye. Go Alonso! You showed the world that you have it. Here's to prayers that Honda eventually gets their act together.
Alonso has been a class act since day 1. Sorry for his hard luck, but he should be proud of this achievement. Congrats to Takuma Sato, Andretti and Honda HPD for the win.
Fernando Alonso was so incredible!
Despite to retire of race your performance on the Indy 500 was formidable!
This is amazing.
Even while ultimately suffering another engine failure, seeing the smile on his face makes me incredibly happy. This man obviously has the chops for so much more.
If Alonso can take the Triple Crown he absolutely deserves it.
Legend! He is the best driver of the world.
Respect! This man was born to be a Race Car Driver.
What a great and amazing driver. World class . Can't wait to see him at the Montreal 2017 Formula 1 Grand Prix.
God I hope he comes back
Those two guys are 100% world class! What an awesome race that was. Hope the come back for years to come!!!
Alonso you are a legend and probably one of the best drivers of all time.
it's so amazing to see Alonso genuinely happy! true legend!
that thing at the end was awesome. hopefully he comes back next year.
terrible shame. I'm a Lewis fan but have never stopped loving this guy. one of the most complete pilots in the world. hope his luck turns around soon. deserves to be in an ultimate car package
What an amazing driver and person!
the real deal. love this guy.
I haven't enjoyed watching a race this much in a long time. Thanks Fernando, see you in Canada. Karting Team FMR will be cheering you (and Hinch) on.
such a shame for him. Honda need to step up or pack up.
Chris Jones so a honda engine winning wasn't good enough for you?
John Calloway Honda engines either win or explode lol
Four of the top five finishers were Hondas... I'd say they're pretty "stepped up".
John Calloway there is only Ford or Honda in Indy so it's whatever...
Numericcash Chevy*
I hope Alonso continues his dream of racing and winning the 500. Good luck in your quest to win the Triple Crown.
Love how he put in there, without the yellows I would be half lap ahead. #nice
Justin Gilbert He's just being honest though, many of the IndyCar drivers are a joke compared to him
Nathan Morssali I was saying it how he always throws a jab in most press conferences. However he has a history after his first two championships of picking the wrong teams, he is one of if not the best. Put him in a Ferrari and he would put them all in the dust.
Justin Gilbert Seb could do well against him, and same with Hamilton... but in his prime, he would leave them in the dust
No he wouldn't, Hamilton gave him a good fight in 2007 when he was a rookie and Alonso was in his prime.
znmo0nlight you mean when Ron Dennis said to Hamilton that they were racing Alonso even though he should have supported both drivers equally? You mean when Alonso got a penalty because Hamilton didnt stick to the teams plan in Hungary which cost Alonso alot of points? You mean when he had no support from the team bosses at the end of the season and still finished with the same amount of points as Hamilton?
Very profecional to still wear the Honda logo. I Would'be cut it out of the uniform by now.
J Biafra $
Even if you were paid millions?
He is paid by Honda, not by McLaren - a strange contract for a F1 driver to be contracted by the engine supplier. That is the reason he was able to do the Indy 500.
Clive Sinclair Not true better google next time
Clive Sinclair i also hear that somewhere. pretty strange if its true
What a class act and true champion. Honda should be ashamed.
Awesome job!!! Lots of support from Hilo, Hawaii!!!
As Alonso supporter im feel very proud to watch my favorite driver race in Indy 500. He has show to all of us what kind of person and driver is. Please, bring Fernando to race again next year!
Alonso is a world class driver, if he wants to, he would be a indy champion in the future.
Man he'd probably would kill it in Indycar Grand Prix
Fernando did great the entire month! This race definitely got a great boost seeing his talent shine.
I love how Alonso goes out there and in an incredibly dangerous race without crashing and Honda has some of the best qualified engineering teams in the world but can't make a working car....
Laika agree 100%
Truly a class of his own. Brilliant drive Alo.
What a great two weeks this was for Alonso, his fans, and especially for Indycar.
Bravo Alonso!!! You are de best!!
GRANDE FERNANDO, EL MEJOR QUE HE VISTO !!!!
Class act and I would love to see Fernando return as there is only one Indy 500.
thank you! this weeks i saw you very happy how years ago and i enjoyed with you too! how years ago! Thanks Alonso!
well done Fernando!!! true racer, agree totally, me and my son watched race and found it so much more exciting than the earlier F1 race, shame about car blowing engine, but hold your head high mr Alonso a true champion and racer, my fellow brit mr Hamilton should watch and learn from this example set by a true great of motor sport
I never loved Fernando even if I watch every F1 races since 1996, but he is a great driver. I am very happy that he came to Indy 500, and I hope more drivers will come in the future. It makes me love them more hahaha! And congrats to Sato, he always give a good show. Peace!
