    So for Peeta's camouflage in the Games, he just plastered the river mud over his face; it'll dry cracked and be the right colour in the environment so as to be an effective camouflage.

    Your analysis on her feelings for Peeta is exactly correct. It is a lot more clear in the books because we have the luxury of being inside her mind, so I’m impressed you were able to pick up on it with the movie alone.
    So yes, it started out as nothing but an act on her end. Though she does admit to having a strong connection with him ever since he threw her the bread. But strictly on a romantic standpoint, Haymitch has to send signals and prompt her into it at first. But slowly, she starts to grow genuine feelings for him. Of course, it gets more complicated from there. She still is not on the same level as Peeta when it comes to their relationship, and when she told him that in the book, there was some miscommunication that led him to believe it was ALL an act. This pushes them to put some distance between each other. And that leads us into the next movie.
    And please know. Katniss and Gale were not dating at the beginning of this film. The movie kind of makes it seem that way, but she’s always considered him to be her best friend. How he feels is a different story, but he never expressed that to her.

    Explaining really quick about Haymitch: He fought in the 50th Hunger Games, which was an special game called a Quarter Quell (you learn more in movie 2) and in his year, there was the double amount of tributes. He survived using the arena as a weapon and for that his family and girl were killed. Since his victory, he became a Mentor and each year he had to send two kids to be killed, since District 12 is poor as shit and those kids where malnourished and untrained. That's why he acted as he did at the start, but he saw a fire in those two eyes and believed he could bring one home.

    Remember that Haymitch is the only winner from Districts 12. That's why he mentored all the candidates from his games onward and had to watch them die. That is more then 40 kids.

  • @ryanbrooks8045
    @ryanbrooks8045 Год назад +18

    The thing about the Hunger Games is that it's a lesson in propaganda. The people of the Capital are sold on how the Hunger Games are about glory and that it's a thing to be proud of. They're told w/ an endless stream of propaganda that the districts see it as something to be proud of... and propaganda works. Effy is a character who's whole purpose is to show an example of someone from the Capital and to watch her realization of what the Games really are. Such a well written series. And that's not even getting into things like Haymitch's trauma. And how he pushes them away at the start of the movie b/c he's been through this and every single year he has to be the mentor to two new kids who he has to watch die.

  • @rskyBindy

    Someone has probably already commented this but the only reason Katniss missed the first shot when being ranked was because she wasn’t used to working with such a good bow! That’s why on her second shot she was able to account for the difference and get a bullseye like she otherwise normally would have

  • @themooseisloose94

    The creatures you called "an abomination" are exactly that: they're genetically engineered to terrorize on behalf of the Capitol. Their names are "muttations", or "mutts" for short. In the books they had humanistic eyes and also had facial features similar to tributes who had died.

    In the books the three figured salute is a gesture of thanks and a way to say goodbye to someone who is valued and loved that originated in District 12. It was commonly seen at funerals. As the districts began to rebel they adopted the salute as a symbol of unity and rebellion after seeing Katniss and her district use it. They also adopt the design of her mockingjay pin to show they are on the side of the rebellion.

  • @marleinasmom
    @marleinasmom Год назад +16

    I have no doubt that Foxface killed herself. They made a point of showing her expertise with plants during training. She survived by being able to avoid the others. She didnt want anything to do with fighting or killing people and she knew they were coming to the end and they would force her out into the open to face the other tributes. Rather than take the chance of being killed by some nasty creation of the Capitol or having to battle someone she found the plant she needed and took herself out. The few times we saw her in the arena, she didn't look like she was capable of fighting and killing anyone. She looked like a spooked deer.

    • @kenzieking7906
      @kenzieking7906 Год назад +7

      Nope. Idk if that’s what they were going for in the movies but in the books it wasn’t intentional. And she was close to winning so even in the movie it doesn’t make much sense. She was just hungry.

    • @kenzieking7906
      @kenzieking7906 Год назад +7

      Those berries are native to district 12 only which is why Katniss knows what they are, and she states that those berries weren’t in the training. Plus the training in the movie looks more like a matching game. And foxface was stealing to survive. Why not steal food from Katniss’ group? She’s a great survivalist so surely whatever food she has is safe right? Foxface was clever, not psychic.

    • @marleinasmom
      @marleinasmom Год назад

      @kenzieking7906
      Nope. They made too much of a point to show her vast knowledge of the flora. She had stayed alive that long, she had been eating. She was fast, and she was smart. There is no way she ate those berries and didn't know what they were. I don't recall her parts in the book but it is a fairly common belief that she died on purpose in the movie. It's not like they didn't change a lot of things from the book..

    • @kenzieking7906
      @kenzieking7906 Год назад +1

      @@marleinasmom can’t you also look at it as a foreshadowing of what kills her? Or emphasizing the sadness of her death because it’s not one you would expect? And again the training in the movie looked like a matching game, not a knowledge of plant types game.

      @kenzieking7906 Год назад

      Also in the books when her body was lifted she was emaciated/clearly starving. Could be different in the movies but I’m pretty sure it’s just a theory that got popular and now everyone’s making something out of nothing and stating it as fact.

    The one character that just fascinates me in the entire 'Hunger Games' is President Coriolanus Snow, brilliantly played by Donald Sutherland. Sutherland conveys so much doing so little...his evil is just palpable, especially in the later films. The white roses are fully explained in the novels, and a little bit in the later films. I can't see white roses without thinking of Sutherland as Snow. When he got the job, he wrote a brilliant letter to director Gary Ross about Snow, and he read the letter in a BTS feature on the original DVD release. It is on RUclips. The forthcoming movie focuses on the young Coriolanus Snow, and how he becomes the way he is in 'The Hunger Games'. It looks amazing. Sutherland's letter: ruclips.net/video/Z25N9pg4AxU/видео.html
    The character of Cinna is cool...especially given who played him. Rock star Lenny Kravitz does such a good job in the role. The funny thing is Jennifer Lawrence worked with Lenny in these films and then worked with Lenny's daughter Zoe Kravitz in 'X-Men: First Class' (Jennifer was Raven Darkholme aka Mystique and Zoe was Angel Salvadore aka Angel). Jennifer is very close to both of them.

    So I don't think this was in the books, but I just noticed the look Haymitch gave them both when Peeta said he had no chance. And then again when he explained that Peeta wanted to train on his own. I think at some point the plan became making sure that Katniss won. At least I think that's how the actors were playing it. And it tracks with Peeta's eventual plan to hangout with the careers at the start.

    I was a member of an archery club in Prince Rupert in western Canada. When this movie came out the enrolment of young girls in the club jumped phenomenally! It eventually tapered back down to normal levels. But for a while it was interesting that not only young girls were interested, but their mothers were encouraging them. I once heard a mother scolding her daughter for goofing off and playing with friends, when she was “supposed to be” shooting her bow and arrows! It’s not every day you hear a mother telling her kids to go play with sharp objects!

    Yeah, that Peeta character was terribly cast. It was never really believable that she would go for him. The actor (Josh Hutcherson) was inexplicably dropped in this role, but has all the acting chops of a plank of wood. He hasn't been cast in any big budget leading roles since these films.

      The vast majority of people who have watched these movies disagree with you. He is the fan favorite character in both the books and movies. He embodied Peeta to a tee and his acting was great, especially in the two Mockingjay films. And this isn’t just my opinion, his performance in part 2 was critically acclaimed.
      And to your last point, he is going to be the main character in “Five Nights at Freddy’s” this October, which is one the most highly anticipated movies of the year. He is also currently filming four other big-budget films. Stay mad.

      @@Mr.Ekshin I normally just let my girl lick it off. But when you are still salty about a casting choice made 12 years ago, do you always feel the need to comment it or do you sometimes just let it consume you?

      Petta is the original hero to Atness-- he saw her- knowing she was starving and burnt bread on purpose-- throwing it to her when his mother wasnt looking. In the book she worries --how could she kill Peeta in the games when she owes him her life.

      I dunno I think he portrayed the character very well. Most people seem to agree so maybe it's just not an acting style you like or maybe it's not how you imagined peeta would be from the books?
