According to Tom Hanks he said, "Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing. That's all I have to say about that." ✌️
The simple innocence of him relating it to his two best friends from the war, nothing truly deep or poignant but at the same time, what he said has alot of impact.
What a nice change! Most reactors I've seen have hated on Jenny pretty hard. It always astounds me. It's nice to hear some understanding of her. Good for you!!
Seriously! I don't understand how people don't get why Jenny is the way she is. I've only ever felt sorry for Jenny. She's a tragic character.
@@janeldavis905 many of us get why Jenny is the way she is, we just ultimately don't care all that much. any negative behavior can be traced back to something in a person's past, that doesn't mean they can't be judged negatively for it. hell, if this movie reflects real life, her father probably suffered the same tragedy she did, doesn't make him any less of an asshole.
I don’t understand the Jenny haters either. Clearly they made it crystal clear to begin with, what she and her sisters endured in her childhood at the hands of her father 😢
Jenny's loss of innocence was compensated for by Forrest's retention of it.

Whenever I see a reaction to this movie, I immediately go to the comments to see how the reactor responds to Jenny. So many miss it & I don’t usually watch reactions where they just shit on Jenny the whole time (I do the same with Saving Private Ryan & Upham).

Fun Fact: Theatrical movie debut of Hanna Hall and Jacqueline Lovell.
Casting Notes Fact: The girl in the school bus with the red hair is Tom Hanks's daughter, Elizabeth Hanks.
Historical Fact: During the ambush in Vietnam the enemy is never actually seen. This led many combat veterans, especially Vietnam veterans, to rate this as one of the most accurate combat scenes in movie history. It was very sudden, the enemy wasn't seen, and it happened very quickly.
Music Enthusiast Fact: Inspired by Lieutenant Dan Taylor, the military veteran character he played in this movie, Gary Sinise co-founded a rock and roll cover band called "The Lt. Dan Band" during the mid-2000s. The band often goes on USO tours to play for U.S. military personnel stationed around the world and also plays various benefits for veteran-related causes. Sinise was awarded the Presidential Citizen Medal in 2008 for his charity efforts.
Double Duty Fact: In the movie there are four actors/actresses who play multiple roles. Gary Sinise plays Lieutenant Dan as well as all of his ancestors. Mykelti Williamson plays Benjamin Beaufort "Bubba" Blue, as well as the waiter opening Dr. Pepper bottles when Forrest meets JFK as an All-American. Sally Field plays Forrest's mom, as well as a male reporter during Forrest's run across America. Tom Hanks plays both Forrest and his Confederate ancestor.

Also.. FINALLY, someone who understands Jenny and where she is coming from.
I love this film, and have since I first saw it when it came out on video. Forrest's reaction when he finds out he has a song is so great, because it shows that despite his low IQ, because he grew up without a father, he probably felt horrible in that moment, like he was an absentee, neglecting father, too. When he asks if his son is smart, that's because he knows the hardships he's had to endure and doesn't want that for people he cares about. The two main themes of the movie are about facing your problems head on and not running away from them (Jenny putting her desire to run away after being abused by her father onto Forrest) and that Forrest, despite his low IQ, understands something most of the "smart" people in his life don't. The "stupid" guy was teaching them about what life is really about. It's totally unrealistic, but somehow I buy it because of the writing and the performances. When Lieutenant Dan stands up for Forrest against the prostitutes who were mocking him, that's another great moment. Dan is angry and bitter about losing his legs, but deep down, he knows he's lucky to have a friend like Forrest - and he makes people want to be better human beings. He inspires people because he's figured out a greater truth about life than everyone else.
The range of emotions on your face is so refreshing. Thank you for reacting to this film.
classic, still brings me to tears some moments
So happy you understood Jenny, I get so upset when people get hostile to her instead of understanding her. Yes she kept making bad decisions but she was a broken person since she was a child, and she was afraid to taint a pure good person like Forest even though she really always lived him.
Like Fight Club, this film is too intelligent for many viewers.
The thing to remember here is that WE NEVER SEE THE REAL JENNY until Forrest meets her at the apartment (and maybe not even then). The film goes out of its way to show us the Jenny that Forrest sees.
Unfortunately, a lot of people don't understand the concept of "unreliable narrator". They watch a film and think that what they see on the screen is a completely accurate account of what is happening.
For those people who don't understand unreliable narration, Jenny is a VERY uncomfortable character. The see how horribly Jenny is treating Forrest, but at the same time they're feeling how the film is portraying her as an angel. Because of this, they feel like the movie is telling them that Jenny is perfect and Forrest just deserves to be treated badly.
With this limited understanding of what happening, they are furious at "Jenny the Villain" because she seems to treat Forrest horribly and get away with it.
But understanding what the film was trying to do does not mean I have to like it.
@@axebeard6085Maybe because for some if not most the concept of Unreliable Narrator is just showing and/or telling without actually going about and doing it if that makes sense. One thing is this and whatever the next and the layperson with average intelligence of any and all kinds are supposed to be okay with that. They need concrete telling/showing otherwise they can theorize all day all night long without actually knowing that it is what they mean, just told/shown in a different way. And it's not just about calling it nuance either. They are taught to look at that, and when they don't see it, it's a mystery that must be solved through speculation and fan fiction. And when comments say otherwise, they get defensive and say along the lines of, "well they should have told/shown us that that is what they mean, not whatever the hell they pulled out there". Messy stuff Unreliable Narration is, but it is what it is. Just my two cents. I could be wrong though so correct me for that one my bad. Much love and respect.

Tom Hanks won 2 Best Actor Oscars in consecutive years. FORREST GUMP (1994) was his 2nd win, with PHILADELPHIA (1993) being his first. Do not miss PHILADELPHIA, which also stars Denzel Washington.
Philadelphia is so good. Heartbreaking but wonderfully acted and directed. ❤

The fact that this movie, Shawshank Redemption, and Pulp Fiction all came out in the same year (1994) is crazy. Such a great year for movies.
Life is like a box of chocolates in the following ways:
You want it to be abundant but not heavy.
You want it to be a diverse variety to sample without a bunch of gross, weird, abnormal stuff.
You want it to be sweet to savor, not greedily devoured.

I loved your reaction, especially your empathy towards Jenny. My only disappointment was it was to short!
It is perfect. I've had the argument about this. People say it's overhyped or that people in the era it was made had bad tastes or something but that just is not true at all. It has the accolades it does because it is literally a masterpiece and a lesson on how film production and story telling should be done. There is no denying it. I came to that watching it this year as well. I had seen this with my mother when I was very young and felt I maybe hadn't been able to absorb the context right so I gave it another try, doing with some other things too. And with knowledge of filmmaking and stage under my belt now too. And yes, perfect is the apt word to use.

Some recommendations for drama: An Officer and a Gentleman (1982). Working Girl (1988), both movies are moving and are forgotten gems, and for a crime thriller try Jennifer 8 (1992). No jump scare or gore. All are worth seeing l even if you don't use them on the channel. [edited to correct my spelling. Wow.]
If your going for the 90's Tom Hanks trifecta, Apollo 13 is a must watch. Between this, The Green Mile, and Apollo 13 Tom was the gold standard dramatic lead for a while.
In highschool in the 90's they'd show this movie all the time.

I am so excited to watch this reaction. This movie is absolutely worth every accolade made for cinematic art.
It hits different if you are familiar with American history and see how genius the writer was at making a pure hearted man like Forrest the catalyst for historical events.
My heart broke for Jenny's long personal hell and Forrest's ability to love her when she couldn't love herself yet.
This is one ofcthose movies that people should definitely put on their watch list. It gets you hard in the feels.
I _highly_ recommend Steel Magnolias. Sally Field at her finest (she won an Oscar for that movie). Plus who doesn’t love Dolly Parton.
Man you're gonna die watching the green Mile with Tom Hanks. Right up your alley
Forrest was taught to run away from his fears.. which is what he did. But eventually, like all of us.. he had to face life. Good or bad.
He had a back problem (probably scoliosis) his legs were ok.
Jenny had Hepatitis C, as the author explained some time after the movie came out. Most speculated it was AIDS as that was common at the time, but Hep. C was still unknown.
Oh wow.. I always thought it was HIV. 🤦🏻♀️
Thank you Aish for not bashing Jenny. Trauma is an awful thing. As a Survivor myself, I hug you having such heartfelt insight into not wanting to tarnish Forrest.

1. The music rights alone must have cost a small fortune💲💲
2. Kurt Russell did the voice for Elvis.
3. IRL Sally Fields is only 10 years older than Tom Hanks.
4. Having gotten his degree Forrest would have gone into the Army as an officer like Lt. Dan. Not a recruit. His ASVAB kills that.
5. He actually saved Lt Dan twice. Once in the field and again to get him out of his post war funk and Dan turned his life around.
6. Normally an enlisted Army person would be fully aware of his/her separation date.

8. Jenny died of Hep-C from dirty needles when she was in Caliphony..
9. It's ironic that Lt. Dan told the guys to take care of their feet because he loses his.

11. You have had a ride through recent US history and culture. From Elvis, John Lennon, Abby Hoffman to Vietnam and Watergate. Even the jogging craze of the 70's. About the only thing left out was streaking.

14. Haley Joel Osmentt/Forrest Jr. steals the show in "The Sixth Sense" with Bruce Willis.
15. Often when he's finishing a segment about death, he ends it by saying "That's all I have to say about that"
16 Keep in mind if Jenny wasn't wasting her life seeking men like her father and was with Forrest he/we wouldn't have had this incredible journey.

How many Jennys are out there, that we walk past every day and we never consider their desperate plight and their need for true Forrest Gump style friendship? Our world is hurting and we are too indifferent to ease the pain.
Charlie btw was the name for the enemy in Vietnam.
Great reaction like always, this movie its one of my favourites its such a masterpiece of cinema. Every character moment or performance in this movie is incredible perfection. The story is simple but interesting, funny and heartbreaking at the same time. Some fun-facts about it, the movie was based on the 1986 novel of the same name by Winston Groom. The author actually went to write the first draft of the flick before it went into production. Forrest was supposed to be a heavier man who sat at 242 pounds and stood at 6-foot-6. In the book, he became a wrestler, went to space and even hung out with an orangutan. And some fun-facts about this movies, Tom Hanks’ brother did some of that running in the movie Jim Hanks, himself an actor and filmmaker, doubled for his older brother on set, including in numerous sequences featuring Forrest’s high-knee, arm-pumping run. Tom hanks daugther was in this movie in a cameo if you keep an eye out for a surly redheaded girl in the bus scene, when young Forrest can’t find a place to sit (until Jenny invites him to sit next to her). That’s Hanks’ daughter, Elizabeth. While actor Peter Dobson played a not-yet-famous Elvis Presley as a lodger in the Gump household in a brief scene with young Forrest, the voice belongs to none other than actor Kurt Russell. Why? Russell, who was uncredited in the film, had played Presley already in a 1979 biopic directed by John Carpenter titled, appropriately enough, Elvis. And if you are wondering what Gump says in those few moments of radio silence? Well, according to Tom Hanks, the full speech reads: “Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing. It still really bothers me that the news reporter refers to Forrest as a “gardener” from Alabama. He’s a decorated war veteran, owner of a multimillion dollar corporation, and world ping pong champion. Gardener pfffft.
First, I totally agree! Second, I presume that was an intentional filmmaking choice to demonstrate how often people fail to appreciate the accomplishments of anyone seen as “other” (and further endear Forrest to the audience)
Everyone who's seen this seems to have an instant reaction when you mention "Forest Gump". For me, it's immediately thinking of Fleetwood Mac singing "Go Your Own Way" as he runs uphill with a crowd following.

Tom Hanks is literally incapable of making a bad film, back to the 80's...Even when he's portraying a "local idiot" he's absolutely brilliant. This actually freaked us out when we were kids because my Mom looked exactly like Sally Fields and we thought she had a secret movie career. Literally cried when she died. When Forrest, realizes he's a Father and asks..."Is he smart?" gets me every time. That's emotional intelligence.
First time I watched this movie, I was 12 years old and on a long haul flight. I cried my eyes out. Beautiful movie ❤

This is one of those perfect movies. You would think there would be no remake...but...
In 2002, Paramount co-produced an Indian version of the story in Hindi. Laal Singh Chadda stars Aamir Khan (as Laal/Forrest) and Kareena Kapoor Khan (as Jenny/Rupa). It is not a blow-for-blow remake, things are altered for Indian culture/history. I loved it and thought it was a brilliant alternate take on the story. The film also credits Eric Roth for his Oscar-winning screenplay and novelist Winston Groom as inspiration and basis for the new version. I have heard some folks do not like it...but I did.
Here are a couple of Tom Hanks movies I suggest:
- Apollo 13 (which also has Gary "Lt. Dan" Sinise)
- Philadelphia (Tom won the Best Actor Oscar for this the year before he won the Best Actor Oscar for Forrest Gump, and only one other actor in Oscar history pulled off back-to-back Best Actor wins, Spencer Tracy in the 1930s).
- The Meg Ryan/Tom Hanks rom-com trilogy: Sleepless In Seattle, Joe Versus the Volcano, and You've Got Mail.
- The Dan Brown/Robert Langdon Trilogy: The DaVinci Code, Angels & Demons, and Inferno...all directed by Ron Howard, Tom plays Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon, the hero of Dan Brown's thriller novels. Each film has a major cast around Tom. The first two are amazing, the third one is not as good, but has moments.
- A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood - Tom plays American children's television icon, Mr. Rogers.
- Splash - Tom's first hit film, directed by Ron Howard.
- A League of Their Own
- That Thing You Do! - Tom's debut as writer and director. Liv Tyler is the biggest name in the cast. About asmall-townn rock band that has a big hit in the early 1960s. Lots of great music. The title song is a major earworm!
I don't know if you have seen these, but there are easily 6 other Tom Hanks films that are also really good, that I didn't mention. The guy rarely puts a foot wrong in his choices of films to make.
“Is he smart” always gets me
Winston Groom who wrote the novel was paid $350,000 plus 3% of the profits of the movie. Altogether that totalled $350,000. Paramount created another company to make the movie that then charged paramount enough money that Forrest Gump made between a $31-60+ million dollar loss. Paramount then absorbed the company charging the money meaning it never paid them a cent and never paid Winston Groom a cent of the profits supposedly never made. Its not unique. Return of the Jedi still hasn't made a 'profit' nor have some of the Harry Potter movies.
He did get a 7 figure pay day for the second book which would never be made in a behind doors settlement. Its one of those examples of a beautiful film being bankrolled by some very questionable practices.
Finally someone who cries at this movie as much as me. lol
If a movie/story could ever be called perfect.. this is the one
IMO, everything about this reaction video is good--except that it's slightly OVER-EDITED and is missing key points along the way, it doesn't feel continuous, it should have been about 10 minutes longer for an epic movie like this. Just my two-cents.

Forrest Gump is definitely an exceptional movie, but I wonder have you seen “Mississippi Masala” it’s a romantic comedy starring Denzel Washington, Sarita Chowdhery and Mira Nair. It’s a very interesting film exploring the relationship between a young black man from the American south and a young Indian woman from Uganda. It’s a very interesting film if you haven’t seen it.
A great movie without a doubt, there are many wonderful Tom Hanks movies, and there will be many recommendations in the comments but I want to make one in particular, another Tom Hanks movie called "Road to Perdition", It is little known but very emotional, I really recommend it a lot. 👌🏼

Honestly I have the biggest crush on you lmao. I wish I could watch these movies with you seriously, your attention to detail and your emotions are so beautiful.
NOTCE TO EDITOR...........I bet you edit the reviews with either headphones or earbuds. In doing this you make the reviewer 2-5 times louder than the movie, when you finish.
