I have both of these on my collection. The Momentum 4 is the one i go for if traveling far because of its battery life. They will last a good while before charging them. Plus the sound quality is better.
Welcome back! I agree, the battery life on the Momentum 4 is really good. The quick charge feature as well! The XM5 are a great pair of headphones and I generally find myself recommending the XM5 a lot for people looking for an all around great pair of headphones. If we’re talking about the sound between these two. My opinion, the Momentum 4 has the better audio.

Sony xm5 has nailed noise cancelling the way apple has nailed Face ID ..but momentum 4 is still better in the sound quality department
That is true! Sony has a lot going in the noise cancellation department! Not too many others can get close to what they do with noise cancellation. The Momentum 4 takes the win for sound though! I appreciate you taking the time to watch!
I choose the momentum 4 because I don't travel in air plane ... but I walk a lot outside so it's better for me to have a snugger fit and sounds quality...

No Sony tem o modo conversa que quando falamos ele para de tocar e ativa os microfones já no Sennheiser isso não existe.

@@ricardosantos4503 Na minha opinião não, tenho o q45e o momentum 4.Acabei de vender o xm5 porque não me compensa ter 2 da mesma gama e o xm5 só ganha no isolamento e é mais leve. Mas pessoalmente até prefiro a sensação de usar o momentum, e o som aí sim há uma boa diferença, prefiro muito mais o momentum

Solid review dude. Very well done. I have the AirPods Max, the xm3, and the xm4. I also have some wired sundara’s, and a few others. I feel like Sony is the best all around headphone for grab and go every day. But the sound quality of the momentum 4 cannot be denied. And that battery life!
I agree! I have a decent amount of headphones as well and have to say the XM5 are a solid pair of headphones all around. I generally recommend them to a lot of people looking for great all around headphones. The battery life and the sound quality of the Momentum 4 are on another level though. I honestly don’t think people will be let down by either! I appreciate you taking the time to watch!

Good Review, Sennheiser is pretty well known for their sound quality, like the HD6xx and HD800s, they even made a $60,000 headphone for the best sound quality, however the sony does a very good job with ANC

I have horrible ear pain on the xm5 because the back of my ears are touching the inner side of the headset.
It's been more than a week and i struggle to keep them on me more than 30min, the longer i did was 6 hours and i got the top of my head to hurt due to the headband, plus my ears being red.
I want to daily drive some kind of ANC headphone for my work as a developer (so i can listen crisp music at low volume thanks to ANC)
Would sending back the xm5 and getting the momentum 4 fix my issue with confort? Or would you recommend me some other pair or maybe going with some Bose ones?

What I do notice is between the headphones and ear buds especially between the Sony 1000xm4, link buds S and the Sony 1000xm5 and Sennheiser momentum 4 is the ear buds seem to have much stronger ANC. The ANC on the Sennheiser momentum 4 is slightly worse than the xm5. Very slight. I could barely tell the difference between both of them. When it comes to sound quality especially with classical music and 50's and 60's music the Sennheiser momentum 4 sound much better to me and they have a much wider Soundstage. Also when I want bass they can hit much harder than the Sony's.

M4 runs circles around the XM5 in terms of SQ. For me that’s the dealbreaker. Sound quality is what I need them for most of the time. I’ve just ordered the Momentum 4s. I’m thinking about the B&W PX7 S2 as a second pair mainly because of the extremely solid build quality.
does the momentum 4 have a good thump and powered bass?
@@gt3grievous The bass is phenomenal and not as tinny as the XM5's. In my opinion, the subwoofer and quality of the bass is better than the XM5's, while the XM5's have overemphasized bass and more muffled sound. The M4's have that classic Sennheiser sound, with great soundstage and mids, treble, and bass all around. If you want heavier bass and are a basshead like me, just EQ the Momentum's for that loud, quality bass.

Bass is horrendously good, like tf, even xm4 +10 bass looks week on some songs compared to powered bass on M4s, totally happy with my choice, using them rn btw

Bought 2 of these (Momentum 4's) for me and my partner. I have 0 regrets buying them. No buyers remorse. The app didn't give me any issues after the firmware updates. I'm using a previous flagship Samsung phone that picks the highest supported Bluetooth codec to drive the music wirelessly. Couldn't be happier. Build quality, accessories, solid durable case included, outstanding sound quality and ANC are decent. No need to look elsewhere.
I used to have Bose QC 35 for a short time. My current one is Sony wh-1000xm3 since 2018 yep it's a long time. I'm thinking to upgrade, I'm going to go for Sennheiser MOMENTUM 4 this time.

My biggest gripe with these is the build quality. Like at this price tag I'd expect something more durable than straight up plastic. Something a bit more rubbery to absorb accidental drops, maybe. I don't want my stomach churning into a ball of anxiety whenever I pick them up, you know. Considering these are premium, I wonder what can the headphones double its price can do.
i ve just picked up the momentum 4 after 2 and a half of use and abuse of the 350bt also from sennheiser and they are full plastic too , and to be honest they are pretty resistent and made from nice plastics , the momentums feel beefier in the joints and made in the same nice plastic so i think they will be durable

I ended up ordering the Sennheiser, i got a trip to vegas in a couple weeks and i didnt want to wear ear buds the entire time. I come from using headphone amps and wired head phones so sound quality was important though i was definitely tempted by Sony

Which one has bigger inner earpad size? Just bought M4 and honestly it's too small for my ears, headphones like sennheiser hd380 pro or game zero fit best, unfortuneatly i can't find specs about earpad size for both m4 and xm5

Is there a pair of headphones to recommend to someone with endurance in mind? I don't want to have to bin quality headphones if a molded cable gets knackered, or especially if the headband material gets knackered. Something with decent modularity and sources for replacement parts. I've never had a pair of headphones where the actual speakers and whatnot went, it's always something daft like irreplacable padding.

Off the top of my head, Sennheiser and Bose offers spare parts for ear pads, a variety of cords, airplane adapters, and etc. I'm sure there are more and this is probably a good idea to make a video about, but I know for sure these two brands sell parts for their headphones. I've had Senn M4 since they were released and have been using them occasionally, didn't face any issues for the ANC and controls yet. I have the M3 as well, just based on the comfort and battery life improvements, i would give the win to M4

That's a great review. I'm wondering how would the XM5s sound if you tweak the app's EQ in comparison with the M4s out of the box, would there be a big difference?
Thanks for taking the time to watch! There would definitely be a difference. The Sony EQ gives you a pretty good amount of control. This test was everything at stock levels, but the EQ will bring out the best in both headphones. You can really get in there and tweak the EQ with the XM5 and make the headphones come alive!
I have both and can honestly say that although the XM5 features a great EQ, and improves a lot with some adjustments, IF you really like the M4 sound, you won’t be able to match its bass (more sub-bass focused) and clarity in the treble, with the limited EQ provided.
XM5 sounds terribly muddy with iPhone while you are not able to use LDAC and even worse on cable with DAC ifi Go Link. Anyone could share experience if used Momentum 4 with cable ? How they are ? or is better to look some typical studio headphones for listening via cable connection ?

Bro you compared all the points between two headphones. I am testing them from last 1 week. All the differences I noticed between both of them, you confirmed those. So thank you so much for the video. Yes the momentum 4 are tight. Sony feels much lighter in head, buttttttt in sound , momentum is far more superior. I mean far more low rumble clean bass, far more details and sizzles the highs. I am just loving the momentum. But the only issue is their clamping force on the head that makes me feel uncomfortable.

I would love the mids to be a little more, I'm more of a U shape sound because the voices on the Sennheiser can be laid back while being natural at the same time. A little more up it be the most fantastic sounding headphones.

On the latest firmware that has 5 bands of EQ, try adjusting the 4KHz up, it might bring the mids forward further according to your taste.

I just want to note, that the M4s have a lot of bugs, I had to send mine back for new ones, but the new ones were only fine for about 2-3h, at which point they didn't want to turn on again. They miraculouy started working again today, but that is one point of consideration.

I had to call support when my momentum 4 started acting up after I used it via USB audio. It doesn't like that alot, yet it sounds great via USB. For some reason it would power on incompletely (sound coming from only 1 side). So, scared as I was I got onto support for help and lo and behold, it started working normal again on it's own.
Ever since then, it has never acted up.....but I fear to use USB audio now

I remember the good ol days when a pair of cans where judged based solely on their sound quality instead of their extra festures. Build quality is a thing of the past. If you want build quality, then look north of 500 because companies cut costs to make more profit.

I have the xm5 and was able to try the SM4 for an hour. Xm5 goes louder, better anc, slightly better call quality in terms of canceling background noice but I heard a few songs that is a bit mudyy. I think yes the SM4 have an advantage on music separation but it's not too far from the XM5 if you get the right EQ settings
Thanks for taking the time to watch! The test in the video was done at 0 highs, 0 mids, and 0 lows in regards to EQ settings. This was to try to make the test as fair as possible. There are so many variables when it comes to EQ settings. Both headphones will shine more I f you take the time to EQ them. I really don’t think you can go wrong with either pair of headphones! no, xm5 is not louder.... xm5 is 102db and sm4 is 106.... also in this video sm4 is louder.... maybe you try this 2 with different songs?
@@poems5952 Welcome back! The XM5 are a great pair of headphones, but the Momentum 4 are a tough pair of headphones to beat when it comes to sound at its price point!
I have tried the XM5 on store sliding bass to max and EQ on the Sony headphone app. The M4 goes way loader with more boomy bass imo, the specs driver of M4 is 42mm and the Sony 30mm smaller than xm4 and xm3.
There is no way, the SM4 is far superior in sound quality...you must be kidding.

Headphones are so subjective... I chose the Sennheiser M4 over the Sony MX4. I preferred the more secure fit of the Sennheiser and the sound, out of the box with no EQ, was cleaner and more detailed. If you listen more critically to your music and want to hear a better definition of instruments (think acoustic) - choose the Sennheiser. It has a bass boost if you want that filled out a little more. ANC and call quality were not part of my consideration - sound only.
I had the Sony’s but I traded them in for the seinnheiser’s because the sound quality on the Sony’s was a little to low for my liking, with that being said the seinnheiser’s blows them out the water with the sound quality and loudness. Sony’s anc is a little better but as far as music it’s not even close

After having both of these the Sony xm5s will break around the hinge however they have unmatched noise cancellation. The momentum 4s ear cups might fall apart but that’s a super easy fix. Also the Sennheiser have a nicer design in terms of look, function and they have a crisper sound.
Momentum 4s sound far better, I'm sold on them. XM5s might have some more features but at the end of the day sound quality is all that matters. Great review
hey, I heared the momentum 4s have a sluggish and buggy software. Have you experienced any significant bugs that could be a dealbreaker? I heared that they sometimes wont turn off and if they finally do, they wont turn back on. Also other people talk about connection issues. Have you had any of those, and if you had, how often did it happen?

I appreciate you taking the time to watch! There are the occasional hiccups, but in general the headphones have been great. The sensor that stops the music works very well on these headphones, there are some headphones that I can certainly complain about (Mark Levinson No 5909 sensor), but for the most part, everything works as intended. When I first started up the Momentum 4 headphones, there was issues getting it set up, but after I updated the headphones, they were good to go. I hope this helps and definitely let us know if you experience issues if you get them!

But still I´ll go out listening to them and other headphones in shops, to see if I really like them or if there are any other headphones in this price category I like even more. You may want to talk a little more the mufti point feature which is super important for power users.
Also momentum 4 can connect through the usb c cable to the pc which is awesome.
Also Sony can support 360
Audio which is nuance but cool.

Why did Sony went for a 30mm driver. It was the only reason I went for momentum 4 and I wasn’t disappointed by the sound quality. Using wired mode on M4 is bit tricky because of high passive impedance. You need to keep it ON to achieve good sound quality. I use it most of the time in wired mode for hires audio

Yes, the Momentum 4 sounds great with rock and metal music. The Momentum 4 are a very hard pair of headphones to beat at its price point! Between the XM5 and the Momentum 3, I would get the XM5… The XM5 has better ANC, better call quality, a lot more feature, and sound great as well. I would look into the Momentum 4 if you want the best sound from all the mentioned headphones. I hope this helps!
Problem with Sony is that the noise cancelation is soo good, that it interupts the sound and it kinda feels like some one has a sucktion cup onto your ear. While B&O H95 have the issue that their NC is too low, the Sennheiser I think has provided a happy medium. Ofc not as good of sound quality as B&O, but better NC.

Just bought the m4 not impressed, returning them and getting the xm5. The m4’s don’t go loud enough and I’ve tried everything
The Sennheiser has superior sound quality compared to the Sony and got even better when they upgraded the equalizer to 5 band .

I love my XM5 but it's obvious that the SM4 sound better out of the box. And I'd love to have that quality, but the ANC is just too weak. As a student I spend hours amd hours in noisy cafes, and with the ANC from tje SM4, I can't concentrate enough. The XM5 though seperate me from the outside world perfectly. So, I will need the XM5 anyway for my current life, even if the sound quality is inferior. I really hope the XM6 in 2024 will come with 40mm drivers as well, that would make Sony the leader in every aspect.

From what I heard in those binaural recordings, the Sennheiser Momentum 4 sound significantly better! So much more in the detail of the sound in the Momentum 4 compared to the SONY XM5! The SONY XM5 don’t even come remotely close! The Momentum 4 headphones are definitely for someone who really cares about sound quality!

As much as I love Sennheiser stuff, I bought the Momentum4 and am disappointed. I have to constantly adjust settings in Windows to keep it from crackling and being strange.

The Momentum 3 does sound a bit different and has a very distinct look. You are getting better battery life, better ANC, and better call quality with the Momentum 4 headphones. I lower the bass a bit with the Momentum 4. The EQ does give you some flexibility. I couldn’t demonstrate that here because there are way too many variables when it comes to the EQ. I hear other USA report where your colleagues say that Momentum 3 has a better sound, with more details. I now have the Momentum 3, but I'm not in love with their sound with s23 ultra and Tidal or Amazon music unlimited..your idea to equalize the power bass of the Momentum 4 convinces me!
@@mirmidone111 I wouldn't say the Momentum 3 sounds better than the 4. Both are bass heavy headphones, but the Momentum 4 has been updated in a lot of places where the Momentum 3 needed an upgrade. The EQ makes a difference with these headphones. this is one of the best headphones you can get in this price range. I'll be doing a comparison of the Momentum 4 vs the Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2 shortly. This is another pair of headphones I can say is in the upper echelon at this price range. The Momentum 4 is a solid pair of headphones.
Sony got absolutely shit on when it comes to sound quality. It's not even a preference thing I don't think, Sony just sounds muddy

I generally tell people if they are looking for certain features, the ability to do something, or sound, they should look into this or that trying pair of headphones.
Sound quality XM: 8, M4: 9
Noise cancelling XM: 9 M4: 6
Comfort XM: 9 M4: 7
I have both, the sennheiser has better sound quality and more comfortable, the sony xm5 has the best noise cancelation.
I own both and sennheiser has a better audio quality. The only 1 which tops sennheiser is my beyerdynamic headphone..but thats more a ,at home' headphone.
But xm5 has really better NC. Hard decisionif you have to

The Sony headphones have a lot to offer and is a good all around package, but if you are looking for the best sound, the Momentum 4 is the one in this comparison. Do you have 80 ohm version? Is it smart to use them on a phone without amp?
I have SM4 awesome headphones.
The Sony's sound can be EQ'd if one doesn't find it to their liking, but the Sennheiser's ANC cannot be made any better by whatever adjustments. So there's not much point comparing their default tuning.
You are right, you can adjust the XM5’s sound with the EQ that is readily available in the app. I compare the default tune because that is the way the headphones were intended to sound from the manufacturer. There are way too many variables when trying to adjust an EQ for multiple people. Some people like this type of sound, some like that type of sound. The only way to make it fair to both headphones is to compare them at the default sound or the way the way the manufacturer intended it to sound. All the headphones I review are as fair as I can make them and I make it a point to go over the features, comfort, gym use, battery life, and etc. People prioritize different things which is why try to break it down in a way that you can make the final decision. @@DelonteM Thanks for your reply. It is good that reviews have a proper baseline, and it's great that you use the default tuning for that. I think it would also be fair to highlight the difference in how tunable the headphones are via their included EQ, because as you said different people like different types of sound, and so headphones that sound "better" with their default tuning may actually have inferior flexibility in custom tuning (like in the case of Momentum 4 vs. XM5) and in the end could be the inferior product for some buyers. 👍

No matter how much you tune Xm5 will never sound as good as momentum 4
I have tried all three let me tell you my opinion.
1) XM4 are bass heavy out of the box compared to M4 and especially compared to XM5.
2) People say XM4 doesn't have a high range but you can always adject it in EQ(i was using OnePlus 8T so i was using Dolby Atmos EQ). When i tried to increase the bass in XM5, the sound started to crack. M4 has good tight bass but not as much as XM4
3) In the ANC department XM4 & XM5 destroy M4. Personally, i can't differentiate between XM4 & XM5.
4) In microphone voice quality XM5 is best. Then XM4 and at last M4.
5) XM4 feels little loss. When you move your head it feels like it can fall down. The M4 has a little bit of a tight grip. XM5 has the best feel while wearing it.
6) Believe me don't go for LDAC s**t. In real life you can't notice any difference if you are using a music subscription having 320kbps quality (personally i tried tidal also and not very very slight difference in some songs when we especially look for it).
7) M4 sound feel like it surround your ears while XM5 and especially XM4 feel like sound is through directly to your ear.
8) Battery life is as individual specifications.
Final verdict:
See, you are only looking for great sound quality or great battery life then go for M4. For good sound quality and great ANC go for XM5(when i increased the bass in EQ it started cracking between 20-60HZ, don't know if this was an issue with my device or universal). Finally, if you are looking for great ANC and Bass heavy sound quality go for XM4(Note: you can always increase high end in EQ but you can't increase "clean bass without distortion" in EQ without compromising mid and high).

@@DelonteM Yes indeed,but in fact they have a pretty decent anc as well, unfortunately only thing Sony's have is anc,i test both of them in the plane and only Sony makes my ear pressure normal but difference in sound engineering is too big,I will stick with my Momentum's
