- Our early retirement slow travel adventures have brought us to northern Argentina. We're on a 7 day roadtrip to explore the provinces of Salta and JuJuy.
We hiked through the quebradas near Cafayate and Cachi, visited the multi-colours mountains around Purmamarca and Humahuaca, walked on the Salinas Grandes salt flats, saw 500 year old incan sites at Barrancas, drove, and got stuck on, on the famous Ruta 40, and surrounded ourselves in fields of cacti and amazing rock formations.
But driving a car in a new country takes some getting used to. Here's what it was like to take a road trip around Salta and JuJuy in northern Argentina.

Wow, what an amazing road trip. Really cool hikes. Some of the scenery actually reminds me a bit of Eastern California, Arizona and New Mexico. Except that road. That was rough. 😁😁
It was pretty fantastic! It definitely reminds us a lot of Utah and Arizona, which are places we love to go for road trips. Just wish we could have had our Pilot and its AWD with us!
I did the same trip 6 years ago. It was amazing. The anfiteatro is worth visiting as well as Cafayate, Tafi. Some out of this planet places. BTW are u planning to stay in Argentina?
I like the way you said, "out of this planet places"! It's so true!
Though we love Argentina, we're slow travelers and moving on to our next country after spending a couple of months here.
Que desastre que están las rutas, por que no las arreglan. Saludos !
