I already have a Viltrox 85mm f1.8 and love it. 75mm f1.2 is next on the buy list. I really want to see something longer from Viltrox like 105mm f2 or so.
Nice review of the Viltrox lens! Thanks for sharing. The image quality is outstanding. Love to see more third-party lenses come up with for Fuji camera bodies!
Awesome review as usual. Love all the unedited sample images you share. This lens really helps keep fuji in the pro portrait game. I would love to see a 23mm or 33mm f1.2 pro to go along with it.
40mm f1.2 would be an amazing “environment” portrait lense. I also hope that they will rerelease an updated version of the “trio” with coating and clicked aperture ring.
Very tempted by this lens, I've got a Fuji 33 1.4 and I think this would compliment it very nicely. Interested to hear your thoughts after using it at weddings to see how the focusing does, looks like it hunts a bit before fully locking on. Not a deal breaker for me as I'll just be using it for personal use but it would be nice to see if an update from Viltrox could reduce it further.
I find the focusing perfectly fine, well worth using on weddings. Bear in mind I don't shoot particularly fast and worked with film cameras at the start of my career for some time so anything is a bonus now.
This week, this lens came from aliexpress just in time for two events. I shot a couple of thousand frames on an open aperture. As a bokeh machine, I didn’t really check it, but I tested it as a workhorse for extremely difficult lighting conditions. f1.2, when there is little light, came in handy. Filmed a performance and dances and all in bad light. I set it to 1/250 (with a slower shutter speed, there is a high probability of movement due to camera shake and blur due to the movement of subjects, I shot on the X-T3 and X-T20) and ISO rarely reached 3200, and most of it was around 800. Spot autofocus worked perfectly. There is some slight feeling that the lens is not native (clicks of the aperture ring, for example, are strange), but all this is covered by awesome functionality. The AF / MF switch works strangely. When AF is on, it is useless to turn the manual focus ring (like native lenses, for example, and the same Viltrox 85 / 1.8) - only autofocus works. And in the MF position, autofocus works exactly the same, but if the ring starts to turn with the half-pressed shutter button, it switches to manual focus mode. Impressions are extremely positive. Yes, and there was never a desire to cover the diaphragm. The lens is razor sharp wide open.
Can't wait to pick this up, at £449 in the UK it's a absolute steal. After owning the 13mm I honestly think I'm going Viltrox primes over Fuji going forward.
Thanks Damian for the review and the contegious exciment for the lens. I sold my 90 mm f/2.0 and ordered the Viltorx 75mm. I think it is a much better focal length than the 90 mm lens for what I do. I like it a lot but I barely used it because the range was just to long for my style. I expect to use the 75 mm much more frequently. Eagerly waiting its arrival...
Hello, thank you for sharing your experience, I guess I fall in love with this wiltrox ! May I ask you what Fuji color did you use on all this pics? Privia?? Cheers, Glenn
Hi Glenn. I tend to use a film simulation bracket so the three I used are: pro neg hi, Astia and acros (r). I tend to choose Astia a lot Edit: sorry about using "tend" twice. It was pre coffee 😅
Thanks Damian. As much a I love the Sigma 56 1.4 that I recently purchased I wonder if this may have been a better choice for me especially at this price. I may have to get it. Nice shots by the way.
@@DamianBrown a 50-200mm f:4 could be nice, even made by Fujifilm because the 55-200 or the 70-300 are not as interesting as the 50-140, but even a 50-200mm f:2.8 could be nice, the Sony FE 70-200mm 2.8 II it is just a 1 kg lens, the same weight of the 50-140mm 2.8. That kind of lens it is very important in the Fuji system. I am using a Canon EF 70-200mm f4 L-IS with Fringer adapter in a X-H1, an awesome lens and it works fantastic, I’ve seen lots of 50-140 and XF 70-300 for sale in the second hand market recently and that it is a bad symptom…
I’m a street photographer and am really looking to try this out. I switch from 16mm Fujinon 33mm Viltrox, and the 50 mm 1.0 fujinon. How would the 75mm work street?
Mostly the fujifilm simulations especially Astia and the light that day which was an absolute miracle (even if not amazing compared to other times of the year and countries)
For travel there's not that much difference for me to choose one over the other. I'm not into big lenses when I travel so I'd take something smaller. I will have another option on the channel soon.
Thanks for sharing, Damian! I'm not a prophotog, so I already have more than I 'need'. But this does induce a significant volume of GAS, of course. The only nit pick, and what may end up being the saviour of my back account on this one, is the less than stellar min focus distance. Yes, I'm greedy and wanted that to be awesome too, like that rest of the lens. So that's the only thing, it's not because I'm becoming sensible 😄 (I have the 90mm f/2 and would never part with it, even if accumulating the 75mm)
I don't have that here anymore and for me as it's a different focal length and more expensive I'm not sure it would be a fair comparison. Both are brilliant lenses.
Hey Damian! Excellent video absolutely floored by this lens and your presentation. However being a Sony shooter I’m hoping that Viltrox brings this to the Emount soon! I would like to query if you would be comfortable using this on a FF camera body as I’m guessing the focal length would then be 112mm or so? As in would you have to step back quite a lot?
Thanks Dave! I'd be happy to use it on FF, naturally it would then be 75mm with no crop factor so it would take a little adjustment. It would be like using a 50mm on the Fujifilm crop sensor as far as focal length goes. It would be interesting!
@@DamianBrown oh yes, but then it would have the circle ring around it wouldn’t it? Meaning one would have to put the FF camera into APS-C mode then? Please correct me if I am wrong
As a cheapskate I'm managing to hold off. In fairness I'm not 100% convinced which I would get of the three. There'll be videos on here about each one soon
Me too, actually a lot of my videos are filmed with that very lens, the bits where I talk to the camera and say it's a different lens/ camera is usually with that 33mm.
@@DamianBrown Absolutely! But I prefer my lenses to have as much versatility as possible - fast AF adds so much value in my book. If this lens was as fast as the Viltrox 56mm f/1.4 I could actually have some fun with it outside of "sit and stare" portrait shots. Still, I love what Viltrox is doing and look forward to more interesting lenses.
Thanks for the presentation. There is no doubt this lens produces quality images. But looking at the images in your video also got me thinking....Using a 75mm focal length, the photo shoot has to be purposeful. I guess this lens will work well for professional portrait photographers who earn their living taking people shots. Otherwise, the general photographer might just end up with many images of strangers and mundane things. It's nice to look at the background blur you can get but I think after a while, the novelty will wear out. The images tell less of a story as the backgrounds of your subjects are compressed and the "story-telling" surroundings cut off which a wider angle lens can otherwise produce. The 75mm is a very "specialised" focal length indeed!
As I said, a brilliant lens for portraits but my test samples were purely to test the range of the lens. I could have included a load of portraits where you barely learn anything about the full range of focus/ colour/ background, indeed usage. Mind you, I don't believe street photography needs to be solely with wide angle lenses, the same as landscape doesn't always have to be done with wide angle. But yes, purely for a wider range of test than the usual portrait application, which the lens is ideal for but I was enjoying it too much and wanted to take it out on a general shoot too.

I would like from them a macro lens with AF, and a tele on the 500 or 600mm range. Thinking on how to access to pricy lenses :)
Some interesting ideas. I can't argue with either.
I agree for both, that would be great
Another Plus for me too !! Both leneses, 500 or 600 with a nice f , not 8 !!!! That would be just outstanding!
Viltrox is on a tear, would be great if they started making GFX AF lenses
They should!!
Something like relatively small and light 400mm f5.6, it would be unique.
It might be too difficult a task for Viltrox, for now...
