A great video! The only shameful part is I had never had the opportunity to fly on one of these magnificent flying machines! Cool takeoff view from the cabin!
Rode that seat several times as a non rev on the DC9-30 with JT8D-7s. I always thought about the times the blades disintegrated and just hoped I would not have that story to tell. The older 9's also would have a tendency to go out of sync when throttle pulled back for descent. Loud rowr rowr rowr rowr sound would seem to go in circles around the cabin. Good times .
I just love the JT-8D's!!! Sadly, I don't get to fly them anymore since Allegiant pulled out of DLH. United doesn't have any and Delta only seems to use them in the south-east.
This A/C was at my former working company "Nordic Airways" I was working as maint mgr there! This is really a rocket! The reg # there was SE-RBA Sweden fan!
One of the steepest take offs I've ever encountered was a nearly empty SAS MD83 departure from Manchester to Denmark...... Thought it was going vertical lol
What is the standard flap setting for takeoff on the MD-87? Looking at the wings, it seams negligible on this particular take-off. Could it explain the long roll?
Among other resons- lift performance of these type of aircraft are above standard exceptional thanks to an inherent (Clean Wing) design- thanks simply by not adding an engine designed on to the wing surface wich will ultimately induce unwanted but preventable drag againg the wing being use, also the engines placement being mounted on the tail is of a Conciderable benefit to any aircraft's flight performance. Rear engines have a more focused cleaner thrust dispersal spread thanks to the 2 power units being in closer proximity to each other an either of them not being hampered by a form of wing! engine placement on the tail does also modify the balance an center of gravity of the craft in a positive way to facilitate increased flight performance. .😉😆😆
Center of gravity purposes, and more stability with engines under the main wing. I currently fly the A320,, used to fly the b737 and before b727. most of the time in the b727 we had problems of lift due to back C.G and it has many drown backs ,, thats why you dont see ANY new ones with back engines. other factors such as servicing the engines are easier with bottom wing engines. And many many more.
I was a Flight Attendant and we HATED THIS plane. We called it the SLAVE SHIP. No place to hide, third position had to sit between two nasty lav’s and it just sucked to work on as a Flight Attendant ... I don’t miss it at all..
That's awesome! The JT8-D is a Pratt & Whitney juke box of wonderful mechanical music. A symphony for aviation enthusiasts!
You have to love those old Prat and Whitney JT-8D turbofan engines!
The best seat in the world! Love that sound! Thanks for the video.
Long takeoff roll for an MD-80... must have been a flex takeoff.
in the video: not to loud even with headphones
while recording: oops i accidentally broke my speakers because it was too loud
I remember flying back from Glasgow to Bristol on bonfire night. Flying at 26000ft same seat and seeing a rooftop of fireworks. Great memory !!!

Did the pilot ever throttle the engines back? Sounds like he was at takeoff thrust the whole flight lol.
If they use takeoff flex, then maybee the takeoff thrust is the same as climb thrust.
Hmmm! WOW! Very stimulating to hear!

This is correct...Delta uses it for their ATL-RIC runs all the time. I'm sure for plenty of other routes to and from ATL.
Dana Danarosana what about American airlines!! the still have a lot Left
JENDREKK RICAN American Airlines doesn't fly to DLH... :-(

This is really a rocket!
The reg # there was SE-RBA
Sweden fan!
Flew these in the eighties...Avoided the catbird seat like the plague!
I flew in a 727 back in 1977 I sat in a similar seat just a few feet from the engine. sounded just like this plane.
One of the steepest take offs I've ever encountered was a nearly empty SAS MD83 departure from Manchester to Denmark...... Thought it was going vertical lol
It sounds just perfect for me, really cool sound.
Thanks.Great video.

I think a typical setting for an airliner is 5 degrees.
11 to 15 degrees on the MD its very typical.
I noticed the flaps aren't down that far. the engine does have a unique sound
Nice Video Bud. Now thats what you call noise.
thank u
I love the rumble of take off
Awesome engine view!
2:39 why aren't the fans of the engine spinning?
thats not the fan blades just some protection I think
Those are guide vanes
+Julio Romeresto I never heard of that, thanks for the info.
What causes the whining/ howl noise? Music to my ears👍
Slats retracting
Those MDs....LONG take off roll!!!
I miss the md80s
Great job!!
lovely video from a lovely airplane.
Best roller coaster ride.
Wow.... thanks a lot.
Great sound!
flaps 5? almost looks like no flaps extension at all!
MD-80 Typically uses flap 11 for takeoff.
If engine is in that place, just behind wing, does it increase lift power?

No not really. But it does feel a bit different that the fixed engine aircraft.
Your question about this, engines vacuum increase air speed for wings , and lift will increase ı think. I hope ı understood true.
Yes, my Q was about that :)
But, if it is true why they do not make planes with engines behind wings to make air go faster above wings :|

Nice to see them in Europe which has almost become an A320 monoculture.
Do I hear a dog in the background?
Danish safety tour? Is that a Sterling Airlines jet?
Nice Video :)
The thruster engine sound like a buzzing bumble bee
Damn long takeoff
excellent thx!!!
It sounds like my hard drive
Same with me but md80 delta
why isnt' the engine moving? wtf
very loud amazing
SO LOUD OH GOD.
How about a hairdryer for extra noise!!
optimum flap uses all the concrete
It might just be me but that engine does not even look like the turbines are spinning???
sound engine MD87vs B707-300
doesnt look like engine is runnin ? blades not turning
Notice how they retracted the flaps while rolling for the take off. Wuuut
The plane must of been heavy
+Apps Jobs you are just really uninformed
They didn't earn the nickname "Mad Dog" because they were underpowered.
no flaps ? :-O
the most wyndefrull sound - and imagin to take a lift on as an 4 yera old
Im never going to sit there
But i like sit near 737 engine cuz it far away
Sounds painful
Cool
Bad seat for a window blow out.
Worst seat on the plane lol
wtf is wrong with this engine?
Turbojets were better and louder.
Was never the loudest, man:)
Airbus too bad engine noise!!!!
Wreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
