Ross that was magnificent. Your playing, the plug in and your superb ear for Slash's sound came together as something really useful for anyone in love with rock'n'roll and unlocking tone potential.
I keep watching this video over and over because the sounds are gorgeous, that Les Paul is gorgeous, and your Slash-style playing is so beautiful to hear too. Even the precision and professionalism with which you explain every single step are beautiful too.
His tone sounds really flat I find, also I know his playing has always been very blues based but nowadays he leans more towards blues than hard rock in his solos. It just sounds very generic.
Fantastic tips and tone with the plugin. Can’t wait to try the preset and tips. I think going along with the low gain kick is Angus Young. That would be a great upcoming episode.
Loved this video! Would love to see one about SRV or even Angus Young because I feel like people also use way too much gain when replicating their tones!
this is by far the closest tone i've ever heard on youtube, specially with software, i think Andertons have a video playing all signature slash gear and is was very close as well, but your video is so educative, i'm trying to replicate it on Guitar Rig 6 with a Traditional Pro II epiphone, this is one of the tones i haven''t been able to replicate at it's best on that software, thanks for the content :D
This is such a terrific video for Appetite Slash tones, thanks Ross! And it's funny: this has made me realise just how much keeping the bass and mids in my lead tone is so ingrained that I honestly don't think I'd ever have figured out this particular tone without your help today! So again, thank you! Hmmm...future tones? Dialling in some Hendrix fuzz tones would be great, with octave fuzz tones a bonus. Speaking of fuzz, Matt Bellamy's thick but still musical fuzz would be fantastic to get my head around too. Btw for reference, I'm using a HX Stomp and HXFX combined.
Excellent tone, video, and playing, especially the intro to My Michelle🤯 Please share as much as you can about the entire signal chain, starting with guitar pick (size, shape, and material :) For instance, a hardwood pick will brighten and emphasize attack without affecting much else. And the less popular fender 346 pick’s shape in white celluloid has a harmonic-rich midrange sound, but is more difficult to use than the usual 351
For the Jungle 1st solo opening, try this instead: The TAB looks goofy here (sorry) but if you only pause at the ellipses and use the letters to tell you which strings you're on, you'll get it. There are also a few open low E string notes he hits throughout I didn't include. G 12 13... 13 13 D 11 12... 14 14 B 12 G 13... B 15 G 12 D 14... G 16 (second time) G 12 13... B 15 15 D 11 12... G 13 13 B 14 15... E 15 15 G 15 16... B 15 15
I do happen to have a 1975 superlead….you’re spot on with avoiding over doing the gain. What I love about the superlead head is there is no gain setting 😂 just turn it up to about 6 and you’re set. That…and an attenuator to not kill your ears 🤘
goddamn this album was so good its mesmerizing. no bad songs in it..and he was just 21/22 when they recorded it, this tells how much of a genius he was
Probably the best video on Slash's tone out there. I found this while trying to isolate slash in Mr Brownstone and did tip #2 and scooped the bass and bam! Nailed it. Question though, what is the echo you're using?
This is incredible! thank you for all the information and preset. May I ask It sounds real close from using the preset but I feel that I hear additional in post? Sweet child of mine is more thick here vs just the preset. Is there more comp or EQ addeed? Looking forward to your series on the website. Happy Holidays.

Hey Ross great pre brother ! The feel is right on. A lot of plugins lack the feel but this one nails it. Do you have your interface gain up at all ? I usually set my Apollo up +6 or so . How about you ?
Very good approach of Slash's tone, the only thing I'd change is the bass part... Don't forget Slash used a modded Superlead on Appetite and those amps are already very trebly, specially cause ppl plug into the high treble input and jumper the other inputs for more body with an extra gain stage.. so I'd say keep the bass at least between 11-2 o clock otherwise your tone will sound extremely harsh and thin... also crank the presence instead of cranking the treble, that bite lies in the mid highs around 1-5khz, so I'd crank the mids and presence and roll back the treble around 11 o clock.
Really opened my mind to experiment a bit, if I was on my own I would never dial back the low end and gain on my marshall pedal but I should try things out a bit more
Awesome! Great recreation! Sounds spot on! Did it take a lot of work to dial it in? Did you try to listen to isolate tracks? Backing the gain off really did open up the dynamics of the pickups. Similar to how some people raise them up but if you lower them it has a similar effect. Will definitely be following this series! I would love to see you recreate megadeth rust in peace tone. Marty's lead tones and rhythm
Thanks! Not really no. I've been playing GNR/Slash material for as long as I've been playing guitar pretty much, so I've always been very familiar with the tone.
Suggestion for Iconic Tone: Billy Gibbons 70's era - Just got Paid, Arrested for Driving While Blind, Waiting for The Bus as examples. SRV Tone videos have been done to death.
Great tone, great playing !! I know you told it, but I fell like there's too much low end even now 😅. Cause if you listen the "isolated tracks", Slash is way more acid than this. We tend to ignore it because we listen his tone within bass and drums in the mix. That's why it seems beefier and fat. Into a mix there's a lot to hi-pass here. But you rock, man ! 🍻

Where is the part two? I need that!! Your videos are awesome! My god... These tones are really perfect i never heard here in RUclips Marshally Slash Tones Like theese! Can you do the sams thing with UYI tones?

I once borrowed a book with AC/DC riffs and and the author mention several times to NOT use a lot of gain.
@@reineh3477 Yeah I think it's more about the volume of the amps causing the break up, not adding distortion or overdrive to the sound!
Especially when playing live in a band. Very common mistake even among more seasoned players
Watched this video on repeat just to listen to the isolated slash sound. Incredible work!
Sounds perfect. As an isolated track of the original....👍🏻
