    2:48 Nope. Since his Appetite Les Paul was a copy, he got himself some Seymour Alnico 2 Pros. So he never used stock Gibson pups.

    • @UhNaanEMoose
      @UhNaanEMoose 8 лет назад +1

      They really could have just gotten a $100 Epiphone Les Paul Special and it would've sounded fine. They have Alnico 2s without the metal cover and they actually play decent with a little fine tuning.

  • @VintageLeftyGuitars
    @VintageLeftyGuitars 8 лет назад +6

    He says before slash had signature pickups he would've used stock gibson guitars and pickups ... But when slash recorded AFD he used the kris derrig gibson replica and what this guy doesn't know is the derrig came with Seymour Duncan Alnico 2 pro zebras in it already, which then became his signature pickup... So no, he wouldn't have used stock gibson guitars and pickups back then, maybe after the record blew up and Gibson got on board but this video is about achieving the sound on the record, which they weren't around for

    • @scottgregory4947
      @scottgregory4947 8 лет назад

      So it wasn't a gibson itself? How much does a replica like that usually run?

    • @JMunn55
      @JMunn55 8 лет назад

      replaca's are $3000 or so, they've done a few limited run versions and one version is being made now, as a Gibson and an Epi

    • @JMunn55
      @JMunn55 8 лет назад +1

      The AFD replicas were made I believe in 2010, they made a limited run at the time. 100 or so were aged and also signed by Slash.

    • @JMunn55

      The Rosso Corsa was 2013-2014 and there was also the Vermillion. Same guitar, just colour difference

    About you guys claiming that Slash used the stock pickups of his Les Paul before getting his own signature set.
    WRONG, the Kris Derrig made Les Paul Copy he played on "Appetite" was fitted with Seymour Duncan AlNiCo pro humbuckers that Slash liked the sound so much of that when the band started their "Appetite" tour, he bought several Les Pauls and had the stock pickups replaced by Seymour Duncan AlNiCo pro units so he could at least have a similar sound to the Derrig Les Paul which he was reluctant to take out on tour.

  • @fernbobbio
    @fernbobbio 8 лет назад +1

    Before Slash's signature pickups (Alnico II PRO Slash), he always used Alnico II PRO pickps in all his LPs. The signature pickups are an exact copy of the ones found on his original AFD, built by luthier Kris Derrig.

    The talk box is pointless since Slash uses it on like 1 song.. save more money without it. The izzy tone was pretty good.. and thank god no more DSL... So many artists use Marshall but you can get those tones from Mesa... Blackstar.. Fender maybe.. Anything really if u set the presence right.

  • @jgFirebird96
    @jgFirebird96 8 лет назад +1

    I'm a huge slash fan, and while I think you guys nailed the tone, the pedal options seemed silly. Slash has 3-5 crybaby pedals across the stage at any show, so there's always one nearby. that's how much he uses one. It's his absolute go-to. he likes it because it's expressive. The AFD was also not a gibson, it was a copy of a les paul with non-gibson pickups that are most similar to his signature a2p's. While not practical for this video, I bought a cheap epi LP, installed the slash pickups, and bought a blackstar ht5. that gets the basic tone, but the slash sig. wah pedal really gets it going. I had a much smaller budget though

  • @cgavin1
    @cgavin1 8 лет назад +10

    Absolutely nailed this one. What this really brought home to me though was that if you have half decent gear, a good quality amp especially, you can sound like whatever you want with the use of fx and pedals. I'd love to see a video from you guys where you use a tele and make it sound like a Les Paul etc. Just to make people realize you don't need this boutique humbucker or that vintage tweed etc.
