When I worked at a restaurant we had those for if we cut ourselves while working. Even with a glove/bandaid they still had us wear them as a safety precaution.

finger cots are very useful to have around for extra grip on small parts or to keep fingerprints and oils off of things
*What's the Most Useful Thermal Paste Accessory?*
- Easy, the "human fingers".
*Why?*
4 Reasons:
1) Everyone have at least one
2) They can be improved by use them everyday
3) Cheap (litteraly free)
4) Natural movement, so you don't need a special learning
Nice. Personally I use a k-tip as spreader. Cut one end and hold it by the other end firmly. After putting a little bit of paste in the middle of the CPU, you roll the k-tip in both directions to cover lightly but evenly the entire CPU heat spreader.
I use the spatula to scratch off the dried thermal paste when reapplying more
Can you compare the thermal conductivity of your thermal paste and others ?
I love the spatula its more easy apply evenly if u dont know stuff very well like me

Finally, a proper fit
I've always wondered if you could get better thermal transfer of you pulled the metal shield of and had the paste right on the chips and the heat sync right on that (no shield at all)
The metal shields real name is IHS (Integrated Heat Spreader) When you remove the IHS you reveal the CPU die or dies. so when you then cool the dies without an IHS it is called Direct Die cooling.

Day 27 of asking: could you do a thermo paste with a combined dot-cross. I feel like the dot doesn't reach the corners and the cross misses the areas in between the corners. Very curious what happens if you combine them. Thanks!
What happen if you short out the motherboard power pin longer (before you turn on the pc).

The cots or spattys would be useful for spreading thermal paste on directly on the die, because any air caps are deadly

I swear you wont need it. Save your money brother.
Don't waste money on a "Test Kit", if you really feel like "testing" just use two old plastic cards and throw em together, same results after removing them from being squished together.
And even that is totally unnecessary, because as long as you have a decent paste (MX-4 or something like that) just put a small blob in the middle and you're good to go, you can't actually put "not enough" thermal paste onto it (even a rice sized dot is already better then nothing / probably enough).

I wonder if there is a block frame for generic CPU or GPU shapes that is like a cutout, and there is a special pressure card that has a special molecular structure on the surface that denies the thermal paste from sticking to it, so you push it down and it spreads it out then you lift it up and no thermal paste is left but you keep the shape.
The corners of the CPU/GPU is what generally does not spread to, and can help a tiny bit if you covered the whole surface.
I wonder if it's necessary to sandpaper the surface of the IHS a bit or the heatsink, to make the thermal paste cling to both sides and make it flatter when it's pressed?
