Definitely true, heck, we basically played as side characters in Sword&Shield, while Leon was doing all the main character stuff 😢

The only time I ever felt a true sense of urgency in a Pokemon game for the Switch was when the skies turned red at the climax of Legends Arceus. I wouldn't be surprised if Legends Z-A featured a similar story sequence, but it would be nice seeing something like this make a return in a new generation.

Having threats in a game like Pokemon works look what we had with Cyrus,Lysandre, and Ghetsis all threatning villians with diffrent goals but I would like to see a Villian like Shido from P5R for Pokemon.

Not having a real threat in an RPG is a bit boring. You're growing throughout a game just to fight your pal and some misunderstood goobers. I'd rather have some kind of conflict that doesn't make me feel bad for bullying some guys pokemon team.

I think even without a genuine bad guy or a something that threatens the characters safety, the stories of the mainline games definitely need an "urgency aspect". Like if you don't do X by Y amount of time, event Z will be different.
To use S/V as an example, if you gather a certain amount of badges before helping Arven enought with the herbs, his dog health worsens and Arven becomes more irritable because of the stress.
And during the last he doesn't uses the his Mabosstiff because it's still recovering. It doesn't change the ending much but give a different perspective on his part of the story with different dialogues.
They could probably add cutscenes to incite you to do Arven's story and add to that urgency aspect.
Because in S/V you could do any story in any order and nothing changes at all I think.

That's not the issue here. We need to be INVOLVED in dealing with the danger. Not being told to screw off and do Gym Challenges while the adults deal with things offscreen. Lookin' at you, SWSH. Modern PKMN lacks AGENCY for the protagonist (you).

Its mind boggling how we got from cyrus ("I will make you regret paying heed to your heart and rip everything from you") to team star ("we were kinda bullied")

Nah for real. Like the "misunderstood ragtag group of delinquents that found family with each other" bit was awesome in Sun and Moon with Skull. But even they had Aether foundation to balance it out and be the actual evil team (even then with some discord in the ranks like Wicke being a good mama and added depth to the whole ordeal). They tried it again with Yell in a smaller scale Macro Cosmos, which was whatever at leaset Marnie and Pierce are cool. But they really thought itd be cool to do it a 3rd time in a row with SV? Like, shoutouts to anyone who was bullied in their school days that can relate and all. But idk man, i was clocked out once i learned they were doing the trope again, the Cassiopeia mystery couldn't keep me invested either since it takes 20 seconds to figure out. And as someone who wasn't really bullied i don't have that relatability to invest me into any of the individual characters beyond liking a couple designs, but most human pokemon characters LOOK nice so eh lol. I need them to go back to a squad that means genuine harm and evil on the pokemon world again, even if small scale. They keep trying recapture Team Skull's charm but failing for me.

Thank you for talking about this. I'm tired of the sympathetic goofball villain team in recent games. Just because a lot of people liked Team Skull, doesn't mean we need cheap knockoffs of Team Skull.
Team Yell was pathetic. They were an annoyance until the story decided to not use them anymore.
Team Star can cry me a river. There was no reason for us, the players, to disband them. They're not a threat, the player character has no personal connection or beef with them, and if we didn't disband them, they we going to get expelled which doesn't affect the player character. So why should I care when the stakes are too low? Team Star only exists out of obligation. Weakest storyline in SV.
I'm also tired of bad/nonexistent villans in modern Pokémon.
Lusamine was done dirty in USUM. I liked her better when she was a psycho in SM.
I don't think I need to explain why Chairman Rose is a bad villain. SWSH overall had a bad story. Rose becoming a villain felt shoehorned in last minute.
Volo was an actual evil villain... for 10 minutes.
And the Scarlet and Violet decided to not have a villain, unless you count Pecharunt and the Loyal Three (who were defeated 15 minutes after they were introduced). This resulted in a game with low stakes and hardly a looming threat.
The Mario RPGs do better at having stakes and a threat that must be defeated.

I'm pretty sure Lusamine was the same up until you get to the top of Poni Mountain, where Necrozma intervenes.

3:50 I know Ganondorf was technically trying to regain his strength but man did it not feel urgent at all in TotK.
I wonder if there could have been a way to implement the danger and threat that Majora Mask's does and plop something similar into the new Zelda games. Now admittedly trying to do a 3 day cycle in the size of BotW would be WAY too much. So someone suggest something different that could raise the stakes.
Maybe every town you saved in TotK the threats around Lookout Landing would get more and more severe, indicating that Ganondorf is coming soon.

The open world thing sucks. If I was into open world games, I never would have gotten into pokemon games. There are so many ways that they are changing the games that will lose the people who have been fans for a long time.

i highly disagree with you but you do you i guess.Just dont judge the potential of an open world pokemon game by 2 objectively bad open world games( SV and legends arc). Tbh i thing they have changed the games enough. Pokemon is objectively one of the worst, least developed turned based rpg. Singles is just inferior in turned based rpgs thats why pokemon are the only ones left to still use it for there main battles(oh and pokemon knock offs but there knock offs for a reason) . And there are a whole host of things that havent been improved from the beginning. So if you dont want pokemon to change then you just want a copy paste of the same tired formula over and over again. At some point you want something to change or am i just tripping?

I think if conditions are just right, pokemon could whip up a storm of a story. I think it would be worth waiting for. Hopefully they'll put a few plot twists in there to spice things up, keeping us guessing/ on our toes as protagonists. 😊 You never know what to expect in the world of pokemon. Anything is possible! 😁🌸🎩🪄✨

If possible, I'd want them to make the NPCs and our rival to actually freak out when something horrible is going to happen and not like "What's going on?" And "We have to stop this!" Bullcrap
