To this day; I still find it unforgivable that they made the Dex Cut and then gave a bunch of different excuses that turned out to be lies. Pokémon is the most financially succesful franchise ever, yet they couldn't be bothered to put in the effort, budget nor time into their mainline games on the Switch.

@@luismadeira3101 And that's a valid excuse-- how exactly? Pokémon makes more money than god, ffs. The mainline games is where all other media and products derive from-- so why not put in the resources to make it as good as it can be??
A freaking mobile game can fit (nearly) all Pokémon and Mega-Evolutions, but Gamefreak refuses to hire competent programmers when it's obvious that their games are unoptimized as hell.
It took one man, ONE SINGLE MAN to fit all of Kanto for the post-game of the second Gen. games and he wasn't even a Gamefreak employee. They've been a mediocre studio since the very start and Pokémon's success was a fluke-- I'm sure of it.

Is not an excuse, companies follow money with minimal effort and that is the hard truth.
Despite how bad a mainline series is, it has always the same formula new x number pokemon, a new region and a new gimmick. No matter how shit the game is the pokemon fan base is so huge that you will always have enough sales for marginal profit and plus more profit from anime/TCG/pokemon go/Pokemon masters Ex/merchandise etc..
I was a mainline series player until gen 4 (Plat was my last mainline game) then, I loved mystery dungeon blue and explorers of sky and I am thinking of buying legend Arceus.
Pokemon Tekken is also fun for me and I love pokemon go and will certainly play the TCG pocket game.
I agree the mainline series games have been underperforming, none called my attention, but even then I think some QoL changes are really amazing and might spark a curiosity for future mainline series games.

If they had been more honest about it, I don’t think nearly as many people would still have a problem with it in the long run. There are actual benefits to moderating which Pokemon are in each set of games as far as the actual gameplay experience and the mechanics. Because they instead blew smoke up our butts about how they allegedly just had to do it this way, no one really considers anything like that. They never bothered to make the case for any actual benefit to Dexit.

I understand people are tired of hearing about the Pokedex cut.
But it is still not very justifiable, rheu have the budget to put all Pokemon in and could subcontract another studio for that purpose entirely.
By now though, we have nearly all 1025 Pokemon available on one of the switch titles.
I believe currently only left out if patrat line, pansage, pansear, and panpour, and furfrou.

The reasons they gave have been proven to be BS anyways. And I say that as someone who feels Dexit was actually an improvement for each individual set of games. It’s good for the generation exclusive mechanics, game balance and design. Unfortunately, they have never attempted to really highlight why they would have deliberate reason to not include all the Pokemon on purpose (the reality.) They claimed, falsely, that they *had* to do it, and so I don’t think most people would ever recognize that there are positives for Dexit. No one is making the case for that.

The Dex cut and the "barely upgraded" animations fucking pissed me the hell off. I think a lot of the long time fans that started way back in Kanto were older and could see through gamefreaks bullshit. Our first home console Pokemon game and we got tons of Pokemon cut from the game, shit animations and graphics that looked they were from Nintendo 64.
When you put BOTW or hell, Xenoblade next to Pokemon Sword/Shield/Scarlet and Violet there is NO EXCUSE. GameFreak and Nintendo are just greedy and they knew they could ship a half finished game and people would buy it. It's really bad when fans would rather pirate Pokemon games and then emulate them. Not only do you NOT have to pay for half baked goods, but you could also increase the graphical fidelity through upscaling and texture packs. AND add in any missing Pokemon on your own.

Usum might have been a shameless cash grab, but I don't loathe it's existence. They're the definitive versions of alola. To me sword and shield were the first sign of dark times to come. Cutting the dex for high quality animations ( a whopper of a lie) lack of story, putting post game behind paid dlc.
Bdsp was pretty much just diamond and pearl remastered, but worse. Forced affection, awful dp dex, no pokemon past gen 4, no game corner, they couldn't even add alolan forms (said to be faithful, another lie).
    Arceus was ok.
Scarlet and violet was a disaster of a game. Glitches and framerate dips up the wozzu, locking post game behind paid dlc, AGAIN. Also the fact they had the marbles to announce/release dlc for these BROKEN GAMES, and from what I heard, performance got worse with each dlc!
Z-A is a single player game so I'm not worried about that, it's gen 10 I'm worried about.

technically it was the second time that pokemon had a dex cut. Gen 3 was the first time that you couldn’t have all the Pokemon in one game or trade from the previous gens to Gen 3. Sword and shield was the second time that happened. I would have preferred if ilica started development of bdsp in 2017 for the switch. It was getting to for gen 4 to get a remake as it was 15 years by the time bdsp released in 2021. Team A made scarlet and violet and team B made legends arceus, probably legends z-a, let’s go, and as well as ultra sun and moon. Team A is probably making gen 10 which is far behind from releasing like in 2026 for the 30th anniversary since it only makes sense. Team B is in the process of legends z-a’s development. Who knows what ilica is doing right now since they are still with Pokémon as far as we know. Team B also made the dlcs of sword and shield and scarlet and violet.

If I remember correctly, you could get all of the pokemon in gen 3, it just took multiple games to do it, along with luck that you lived near a place giving away event tickets, and extra cords to connect to gamecube. Basically it could be done, but took much more work than it should have.

Yeah the but the pokemon were still in the code. So you could at least get them with a GameShark or something. And they did provide legitimate means to get almost if not every Pokemon. So you’d have to shell out some cash but it was at least possible. Additionally, that was due to the fact that the game boy and gameboy advance were just too different to talk to each other for transfers and that’s a much more legitimate reason than what we were given with sword and shield

Pokemon fans who don't care about the Dex cuts in recent generations I feel don't understand why having every past Pokemon in the recent games is such an important key feature of the series. Pokemon as a series is all about personalization and community, meaning everyone has different teams of Pokemon that they like and have formed bonds with over the years.
When you restrict more than half the mons from even being in the latest titles, you're basically telling people who have said cut mons as signature members of their personal play styles that,"We don't care about you. Your way to play doesn't matter."
For me, I can completely excuse USUM's problems and short comings because at least you can play the games with any past Pokemon or gimmick at the time of it's release. Heck, I can even look past the Let's Go games because while Game Freak INSISTS they're main series games, they really feel like more of a spinoff than anything.
Even if SwSh and SV didn't have every mon at launch, I'd be more accepting if they actually followed through with adding the rest in updates. But the thing is, they DON'T follow through with this. Stopping at 200-ish additional mons. I would much rather take more gameplay options like the Pokemon any day over newer, highly detailed graphics and animation. I can't believe that has to be such a hot take.
Before anyone says it, no, it has nothing to do with graphical fidelity or memory space. Sure, you could argue mismanaged development and time crunch. But even then, they were still able to create high poly models and animations for 600+ Pokemon for XY....
But I feel the real culprit is Pokemon Home, pushing for subscriptions over just transferring and storing your Pokemon in one game at a time for free. The free service is so lackluster in the first place that they basically highly encourage giving them more money just to store your mons who aren't in the latest gen in the cloud. Taking away something that was the standard for so many years while swindling every penny out of us feels pretty scummy if you ask me.
What hurts most is that most Pokemon fans out there are perfectly okay with all this and seemingly don't care about the Pokemon they raise and transfer from gen to gen. Without that care and personalization, the Pokemon games are just lackluster and overly easy RPG games. In which I feel there are more and frankly better RPG games that satisfy that itch.
So unless they ever revert this decision, Pokemon is forever ruined for me. :( Nowadays, I only play the games that have my top favorite mainstay.

@@DDKoD That is kind of a weird pattern I've noticed. A lot of the people I've seen not bothered by the cut, or even fully support it, almost always seem to have the same favorite Pokemon, as you said earlier, usually popular fan favorites or competitively viable ones that always seem to make it into each game with no issue.
"If your top favorites are Charizard, Gengar, or Gardevoir, then you're in luck!
But if you like something like Slugma, then screw you, wait 3 years until we decide to bring him back!"
That's how this feels and that just doesn't seem fair to the player at all, IMO.
Regardless if you believe it or not, every Pokemon is someone's favorite, after all.
For the issue of not having every Pokemon available before post-game, I think BW/B2W2 had the right idea for that: Place a cap in the game that makes players use Mons already native to the game's region, then allow transfers of different Mons only after the game's been completed.
As I mentioned in a separate comment, I feel like the heavy blow dealt by the Dexcut to so many in the fanbase would be lightened considerably if the HOME app just allowed us to be able to continue interacting with our Pokemon while they wait for the next game. There has to be a better way to deal with such problems instead of "Let's just get rid of a bunch of people's Pokemon and make 'em pay extra to MAYBE get them back".

I think its not really a dark age more so a snag. Black and white were a dark age where from gen 4 to 5 sales dropped like a rock and to this day i still think Black and White are bottom 3 in terms of pokemon games while B2W2 are top 3. I think X and Y they came out of their funk but i wouldnt call it a dark age more of a rough transitional period because it feels like they are moving out the older directors for new young directors that may have very different takes on pokemon and where it should go. along with a heavy transition with a huge console leap from N64 level graphics to ps4 base level graphics.
Sometimes I do think they listen to the vocal minority too much at times and BDSP kind of reflects that in where most people just wanted a revamped DPPT but we literally got a gen 4 carbon copy from a studio that produces amazing work when you let them and i think they need to loosen the reins a bit when other studios handle the property because i feel we would have gotten something better if they just let ILCA fully handle it themselves.
I think scarlet and violets problem was the switch itself. the switch has difficulty handling open world games and for pokemon where around 20 pokemon spawn per time thats a heavy load. Xenoblade 3 which had great graphics would chug if you had more than 2 enemies fighting at a time and hid a lot of loading using its verticality and BoTW would chug heavily in certain areas and if you had more than 3 enemies the frame would start to hurt. I think the only ways they could have fixed the framerate somehow getting the game to overclock the switch to use more power from the chips because its only using like 55% of the chips power or less pokemon on screen. The first nintendo isnt allowing that and the 2nd people would get angry about that so they kind of had no way out. The way this was proven by several creators that its more the switch than pokemon on the frame rate issues.
I think pokemons biggest issue how many releases they have been doing and how quickly and its forcing them to cut corners at times. I think that is the reason they are establishing another studio is because I think gamefreak has realized their current schedule isnt realistic in the long run with how advanced console games are now and how good graphics have gotten. I think they have realized they may have to slow down their releases and so the best way to keep pokemon going is to create another studio that can assist in that endeavor. I think gamefreak learnt from scarlet and violet that they need more time to develop games and doing this 3 year cycle isnt working anymore and I think they realized how much console development has changed and they are prepping for that change.

Black and White came out when the Wii was losing its luster, and the Wii U was announced. It's also didn't help that the 3DS came out between them and BW2. It's likely people skipped BW2 due to anticipation of a 3DS Pokemon game as an early launch title, but would end up releasing in 2013, two years later.

  • @manueljaramillo2520
    @manueljaramillo2520 3 месяца назад +5

I agree that the Dark Ages started with USUM. There were changes to the story that I didn't agree with and the changes themselves were few and far between. Then Let's Go came along and I had ZERO interest in those games. Had no problems with skipping those games and waiting for the next titles. And then SwSh happened. This was when I had enough with how GF and TPC was handling the games. Dex cut, the poor textures, the pop-in, the barely existent story, no voice acting which led to the infamous cutscene with Piers, and the DLC which is basically the real post game that they decided to sell to us.
BDSP are the worst remakes ever especially when compared to FRLG and ORAS. Completely agree that these titles were just shameless cash grabs trying to bank off of people's nostalgia for 4th gen. Legitimately if you want to experience the 4th gen games/story you're better off just playing Platinum. PLA was a breath of fresh air and the most fun I'd had with a modern Pokemon game. I was looking forward to seeing what support GF would give to PLA and what updates they'd release for it. AND THEN ONE MONTH AFTER PLA'S RELEASE, TPC COMPLETELY ABANDONS IT AND ANNOUNCES GEN 9. PLA GOT ONE SMALL CONTENT UPDATE AND GOT THROWN TO THE WAY SIDE.
SV have the WORST performance of any modern Pokemon title and it isn't even close, they run like absolute shit. So many bugs on release, pop in is worse, open world yet they have zero level scaling so there actually is a linear path you're supposed to take, story is barely an improvement over SwSh's, still no voice acting which leads to awkward moments in cutscenes that really needed it (like Kieran's shouts in the Indigo Disk dlc), and again dlc which just feels like the real post game being sold separately.
After all this I hope that PLZA turns out good because honestly I'm getting tired of giving second chances to this franchise that clearly doesn't respect its older fanbase anymore.

I think the dark age of pokemon was 7th Gen up to the most current 9th mainly because the sheer amount of bugs that each game had more so with Sword/Shield & Scarlet/Violet i do believe that Legends Arcus & the DLC wasnt too bad those were a good step in the direction to an extent tbh i dont know what the future will hold but the fandom regardless of what you think about them deserves the time & effort that should be put into the series without them Pokémon wouldn't be a thing.

I have been playing Crystal Legacy & been replaying B2W2. It's almost impossible to play those games w/o being bogged down with cut scenes. S&M were (probably) made with this idea, but they were developed as 3D games, which really makes the game stop & separate the cut scene from the main gameplay.
USUM should have been released as 2 DLCs: the Ultra-Beast quest & the Rainbow Rocket quest.

Maybe Legends ZA will improve things but if you are like me and miss old Pokemon, those days are over. I think the dark ages was a gradual thing with XY. The selling point of those games was that it was 3D and had Mega Evolutions to which they definitely delivered but story was mediocre in comparison to Gen 5 and arguably every other Gen and the games were stupidly easy in comparison. This taught GameFreak/The Pokemon Company that they can get away with games with medicore stories and little to no difficulty, that didn't have bother with BW tier stories and developing difficulty modes like they did B2W2 was pointless. As much as I like Megas, they opened the gateway to a bunch of different gimmicks and we ate all up. You pretty much summed up my issues with USUM and Let's Go so I won't reiterate that. Now I can't really comment on anything past SwSh (not including the DLC which I didn't get due to how overpriced it was). However I have been watching from the sidelines (because as much as I dislike what's going on now, I can't fully move on) and stuff does not look so good. BDSP felt like a massive spit in the face especially being a huge Platinum fan. It was a highly anticipated game and they cared so little about that they outsource the game to company who have only ever made ports and Pokemon Home in order to hold people over until Legends Arceus dropped. Moreover, the fact that they made a faithful remake of Diamond and Pearl was even more disrespectful when Platinum improved upon those games in every way and is a remake even worth getting if it does not reimagine anything? At the very least they could have done what ORAS did. This kind of stuff is unforgivable in my eyes. Legends Arceus did seem like a attempting buy but not $60, I might see get one day though. Even less so with ScVi, an open-world Pokemon game sounds cool but without leveling scaling, it doesn't seem all too interesting to me. Also the fact that it released with FPS issues and so many bugs, and bugs are still present in the game despite the fact that they released DLC expansions for the game is telling sign that GameFreak & TPC realized that they can do anything and make millions. Likely because they cultivated a fanbase of children and loyal adult/teen fans because otherwise the games would flop and they would have figure out away to regain our trust. This also might be very very very subjective but since Gen 7 I feel like I've been liking the Pokemon designs less and less with every new batch of Pokemon, to the point where I can count on a hand or 2 how many designs that I like from Gen 9.

I hate how they pump out so many new Pokemon all the time, over half of the Pokemon introduced post-Gen 6 I don't even know the names of. Gen 6 was the last one to do it right, a low pool of only 72 or so new Pokemon, and then 20ish new Megas/Primals of old Pokemon. This was the way to do it. We don't need 100+ new Pokemon every 3 years, it gets old quick.

I've been a fan of Pokemon since the 90s but was never able to play any of the games on their respective consoles until 2013 when XY came out and I received a 3DS from a friend as a birthday gift. Paired with the awesome XY anime, I regained my love for the series and have been obsessed with it ever since. And being an artist/writer that has created their own Pokemon characters and their own Poke'verse just pushed that obsession into hyperdrive. Most fun I've had in forever!
I have a love for collecting, so, of course, I had a blast collecting, and raising each and every Pokemon I got, and I often see them as beloved pets instead of just '1's and 0's' (And anyone 'bothered' by this can go swallow a whole pinecone. I don't give two shits). Every 'Mon I own has a name, has max friendship, and has a fond memory attached to it.
So when the news of that ridiculous Dexcut came around (As well as seeing so many people turn around from being rightfully shocked/upset to defending the decision like their lives depended on it), I was absolutely livid and it just made the games so much less fun for me for years. ESPECIALLY after they just kept...removing so many other great features that brought me back into the franchise in the first place.
Out of all those 'creative' decisions, I despise the Dexcut specifically, not only because it prevents me from playing with the Pokemon I want to play with a lot of the time, but also because I feel like they're making me pay extra $$$ to watch them sit and rot in a box with no way to interact with them.
But honestly, the cut wouldn't bother me nearly half as bad as it does now if only, I dunno...the HOME app was actually a HOME for my Pokemon instead of a glorified prison, that had a battle simulator and Amie/Refresh feature to allow me to keep interacting with my stored Pokemon while they wait 3-6 years for the next game they'll be available in...
Either way, despite how completely bummed and burned out I have been about Pokemon these past 6 years, Kalos is still one of my all-time favorite regions next to Johto. So I'd be lying if I didn't say that returning to that region doesn't give me at least a glimmer of hope for a future of redemption for this franchise. I love all my Pokemon, but I don't know how much more of the 'Dark Ages' I can take at this point.

i know im gonna get hate for this but i DONT WANT more mega evolutions, Megas trap and end a pokemons evolutionary line from evolving again. Pokemon like Medacham, sabeleye and mawhile are all stuck sucking because of their lack of megas in future generations.
Megas are a kalos generational gimmick. We got them in gen 6 and we are ONLY getting them in more KALOS (or Hoenn) games gen 10 wont have megas they will have a new gimmick. Gamefreak learned from sun and moon that they had too stop making megas available EVEN IN THE POSTGAME because people latched on too it too much.
when you comepare them too every other gimmick Megas are the worst.
Every pokemon can dynamax or terastlize or use a zmove but ontop of that some of them have exclusive forms that function the same but give a certain pokemon an edge like Signature zmoves, gigantamax or tera forms.
But only like 60 pokemon can mega evolve and get broken stats and a broken ability that you HAVE to have a mega on your limited team additionally megas cant take advantage of a held item.
what i want for gen 10 is some new phenomenon too occur too split Pokémon too evolve away from megas, like you have a sabeleye but instead of mega evolving it you can make it evolve normally into something ells, the base form can mega evolve but can still split off from mega evolving and get regular permanent evolutions that stick around for extra generations.
"but it was a main stay of pokemon!" no it wasnt megas where essential to gen 6, that was it.
Where ells did they appear? sun moon post game but they had too have the national dex which is why we didnt get any new megas in sun and moon. And in lets go pikachu and eevee? its a kanto spin off and unlike the other gimmicks megas are the only ones that occur in different places so if they wanted too spice up kanto they had too chose Megas instead of gmax because it would be a spoiler.
Megas where always suppossed to be TEMPORARY people need to let go legends za is ment too be a slap too the face saying "MEGAS ARE A GEN 6 THING!" and they wont be in gen 10.
Only Kalos generational games and remakes will get Megas.

Oh hey it's every generic complaint I've ever heard about the recent games rolled into one video, you know not everyone agrees that we've gotten nothing but bad games or those sales would not be so high. People don't seem to want to understand that before the switch Gamefreak never had a mainline game on a console before. The hybrid concept forced them to do it and I always knew there'd be a learning curve with that it's why I did'nt come down so hard on Sword and Shield. And while yes the pokemon company has a ton of money it has alot of different branches that all need to be considered when thinking about a delay.
Now should the Pokemon Company have let Gamefreak have more time on each game absolutely I won't pretend I'm not mad about that it's rich execs once again not caring about the actual creatives. But people keep blaming GameFreak and not pointing the finger at the people who actually need to hear it which get's on my nerves so much. Your basically doing the execs job for them at that point, I think the two mainline games and Legends Arceaus were all incredible games and you could absoutely see Gamefreak wanting to push themselves with each entry they put out. And I am happy that their being given more time to work on Legends ZA too. Especially as it seems it's all but guaranteed to be a Switch 2 game.

This kind of unethical lazy mindset is the blatant mark of greedy people who have no self respect or will to improve their creative skills and I defy anyone to dare to argue that cause it's not excusable. You don't do anything wrong by buying a product, good or bad. It isn't respectuous of work ethic to sell a mediocre product just because money drops however. They're the problem for not making a decent product. Not people who buy a series they love and rightfully expect to be good or at least decent. Stop accusing the consumers. Can't people see there is a problem in the first place if we have to force them to work? Game Freaks is the one creating this situation in the first place when they should just be serious and involved in their work.

You know, I am respectful to all comments, but this. There is no hate toward these creators, but this is why I am starting to hate this community, from people who can't decide to hate someone for buying a broken but yet playable games is fun and bring us joy. We can't all be nice and respectful? Yes, companies can and will put money first. But it is frustrating to me to think that we all can't understand the happiness and joy Pokemon has brought us. It's not the dark ages! It's we all age!

You can't call something broken and playable at the same time, pick one. And please, do not try to use the "you grew up" argument for why we hate the games now. If that was even remotely true, then people wouldn't be enjoying a majority of the games from Nintendo and their subsidiaries. It's GF trying to make Pokemon games like they're still on handhelds and expecting them to turn out okay. Enjoy whatever you want but don't go throwing a fit whenever somebody brings up actual valid criticisms.

@@manueljaramillo2520 I can understand where you're coming from, and I horror it. But everyone is right in their own way, I only said that because, yes, I was mad about the video and I have no excuses for it. But hate comments or good ones, I still stand by what I've said.

He’s got a point imo. When a triple game releases running at 15 FPS (just one of the problems) it’s an absolutely fair take.
Aside from that, we can have our opinion, and you can have yours. Both are valid, please don’t tell people they cannot express themselves.

Pokémon was already going downhill from Gen 3. Gen 3 had an amazing map but the rivals and gym leaders were boring as hell. Exploration was amazing though with awesome legendaries. So it was still good.
But Ruby/Sapphire/Platinum has the worst map, boring ass gym leaders and a slog to go through.
Gen 5 Unova was another slog with the worst Pokémon designs.
Gen 6 i did not play.
Actually Pokémon improved so much in Alola. Great region design and amazing characters. But exploration and dungeons were ruined. Handholding is at the worst. Gen 7 actually improved Pokémon.
Lets go is just another Masuda trash. So glad he is gone.
Gen 8 Sword and Shield had the best character design, stadium gyms with giant Pokémon was fun. Exploration and dungeons agains take massive blows. Short game with bad story and frankly super disappointing. But have to say, i played the game 3 times as the game+ dlc is very charming.
Legends Arceus was good initially but was tedious and repetitive. But i enjoyed my 30 hours with it. Characters and new Pokémon were amazing though.
Best game is SV. Amazing characters. Map is boring as hell. Exploration and freedom is limited as no level curve. The dlcs are just amazing. Both dlcs are the most fun i had with Pokémon. Every single dlc characters were chefs kiss. The base game looked like ass though. The dlcs were better designed.
So actually Pokémon improvef alot just the dungeon designs and map exploration suffered so much that it hit rock bottom. Character design and story has improved so much.

Pokemon content is the best its ever been, its just not GF doing it.
The reason GF is shit at making Pokemon at this time is because they are working on that other game.
most people probably wont even buy just out of spite.
