1982 was a colourful and decent World Cup. Those fans in the final peeping through fencing. You couldn’t see the matches properly through fencing. World Cups were better in those days when you rarely saw top players on TV which made it more exciting to see them.
Bobby Robson's insistence on calling them AYEtalians was splendid. Then there was: "He obviously wanted to play Antigon...Antogigoni, or whatever his name is...ummm..." Glorious punditry
Antognoni was and is a Fiorentina Legend - and he was great player of course! The spelling is relatively easy gn=y like in the word "yes"...I find "whatever his name is" is a bit disgusting. And he also didn't know Enzo Bearzot...
A lack of respect for a very good player whom England would loved to have had in their team. He held his own against Falcao, Socrates, etc and then missed out on the pinnacle of his career.
great football expert also ahahaha, he favoured the German team that got completely trashed minutes later by the "EYE"talians. In this program only Jimmy Hill was competent and completely "on the ball".
Italy won this World Cup in style. Beating Argentina, reining world champions. Brazil, probably the best international side ever!! And west Germany reining euro champions. Italy beat the best of the best in 1982.
As it turned out there was very little to beat in Spain. All the major countries suffered with injuries or other problems and Brazil proved to have, not a team, but only a brilliant midfield.

We were unbeaten yet got knocked out. I’m glad that the World Cup is now a knockout format after the first group stage. I don’t know what they were thinking about with 2 group stages.
I suppose that the 3-team group stage was required to reduce the 12 first-stage qualifiers down to 4 teams - this was caused by the expansion from 16 to 24 countries.

In the history of football, in competitive matches of 90/120 minutes, the Germans have never beaten Italy. There's no need for another final between the two teams. The 2006 semi final was the best of the whole lot. Both teams playing great attacking football and Italy emerging with a 2 0 extra time win with two brilliant goals. Beats even the 1970 semi final.
