Everybody wants to blame the Munich police. Yes, they did a terrible job of preventing this but how about blaming the terrorists? The problem with the world today is nobody blames the people who actually commit the crimes.
I was appalled in 1972 when the IOC chief told the audience "The games must go on!" to the cheers of the crowd - while the hostages were being murdered. I never watched the Olympics since then.
Unfortunately for the Israeli athletes, Munich authorities totally screwed up from the very beginning, all the way through this entire ordeal. They had a solid tip which they dismissed & then covered up all their failures after their bungled rescue attempt at the airport. Totally inadequate personal from top to bottom. RIP to the innocent athletes of 49 years ago.
At least now, it is Israel and its IDF that brought justice, closure to the families of those athletes by retaking Gaza and the rest of 'pales' claims over what is Israel's. Besides, Germany is now inundated with troublesome immigrants, including fanatic pro-pales protestors festering German streets.
They use to talk about it every Olympic when I was a kid.... I was born in 74.... happened a long time ago.... can't talk about it forever.... I remember asking my parents what it was... 😁
that's the lie. It's not done in recent Olympics and as someone already said - do you expect every country to commemorate this event at every Olympics? Get over it!
1972: " Israel and Palestine had been in conflict for years with no clear end in sight." 2021: Israel and Palestine had been in conflict for years with no clear end in sight.
3056: The territories that were known as Israel and Palestine, inhabited by the same bipedal species, had been in conflict for years with no clear end in sight.
The Israeli-Palestinian situation and what Black September did to the athletes are separate matters. I support a Palestinian homeland. I support American Indian rights, but murdering U.S. athletes would never be justified because of our treatment of Indians. Same for the USSR’s treatment of the Baltic states, Spain and Catalonia, China and Tibet. The murdered athletes were killed out of spite and sadism, not a liberation cause.
That's how some historical tragedies or triumphs occur. Scenarios are run from experts and analysts and they're given to those in charge and they are ignored; being seen as impossible or unlikely. Events that come to mind are 9/11, The D-Day invasion, Pearl Harbor, and Jonestown.
If they felt like jackasses they wouldn’t have tried to cover it up or released the men responsible 2 months later. Germany should be permanently banned from ever hosting the Olympics again for this complete and total failure.
Real jackasses on hiring him for consultancy services and not considering those 26 scenarios to be possible. What a waste of lives and taxpayer's money.
Slightly younger than you. I remember the aftermath and the games going ahead. My hero Jesse Owens, who stood up to the Nazis with dignity and pride .. crying over the lost athletes in the stadium. 2016 went myself and paid my respects at the memorial at Tel Aviv. I often think of the families who lost athletes and officials. A terrible loss. My here Jesse Owens
My good friend, a swimmer from S. America, was there when it happened. Apparently some athletes were kept rather in the dark about what was going on, only that "something" was very wrong. There was no internet, TV coverage wasn't what it is now, and thus they were shielded for a time against the true horror of what was happening.

The athletes' lives was lost from the moment authorities decided not to invest in more security. Furthermore, they really did everything in their power to cover up their mistakes. I was born and raised in Munich but quite a while after this happened. It is incredible that slowly during my childhood more and more of the authority's mishaps were revealed and I remember my parents (who were children during these games) being absolutely shocked. I'd say our coverage of this disaster is much more truthful nowadays but it is despicable how authority's used their power to cover up so much, particularly with the history we have in this country. Thankfully it seems that security during the world cup in Germany was much tougher and I know they invested a lot of time and money to make sure nothing would happen to anyone during that time (like seriously, if you look into the amount of research they did into hooligan fans and how they'd be able to stop them from even reaching the games' location. It's fascinating). It is just sad that something like this had to happen for them to do better.
I had just graduated from high school in 1972. I remember seeing this all come down on live network TV. I just couldn’t believe what I saw, and then heard what the TV commentators were saying. This was nearly 50 years ago…and still remains vivid, ski masks and everything. The coverage just rolled live, confusions…and all. This was the beginnings of hi jacking planes.
@@Tracymmo Major airliners with lots of people that made international news were a bit later. Technically, the first hijacking was probably in the '20's, but that's not the subject at hand.

The narrative is dictated by dictatorships pumped up on natural resources. The UN still hasn't put up a resolution condemning Hamas for Oct 7 and has item 6 on Human rights council agenda where Iran and North Korea point a finger at Israel "the occupying power", although there was no country or people of "Palestine"
The nightmare events of the Munich massacre are still so fresh in my mind. I ran out to where my sister was riding her bike, so thrilled the hostages were released. Hours later, I was lying on the floor in our living room, breaking into tears when the final, horrifying words came in. It was years before I was up to watching another Olympic Games. Those who did not spend hours watching the news for any glimmer of hope, then learning the absolute worst has happened, may never appreciate the grief most of the world felt, only the anger at hidden faces.
The Israeli athletes and coaches exhibited so much courage, their admiral bravery should not be forgotten. I remember watching this fateful event unfolding on our TV and could not understand why? The Olympics is supposed to bring together the best of the worlds nations in peace and harmony to further friendships, appreciation and consideration for all the worlds peoples.
@@bobmcrae5751 really?and how is that? "The Qur'an cannot deal with the State of Israel as we know it today, since that State only came into existence in 1948, i.e. many centuries after the Qur'an itself was revealed. However, the Qur'an specifies that the Land of Israel is the homeland of the Jewish people, that God Himself gave that Land to them as heritage and ordered them to live therein. It also announces that - before the end of time - the Jewish people will come from many different countries to retake possession of that heritage of theirs. Had you had a TV that reported the truth during the early 40s you would have said the same about the ethnic cleansing done to the Palestinian people during the zionist invasion.

I never realized that this occurred until Bob Costas kept bringing this up since he was broadcasting the Olympics since 1992. After that, no Olympics back then acknowledged that this occurred. Thankfully in 2021 in Tokyo they acknowledged this and we had a good moment of silence for those that were killed in this tragic massacre. The words "Never Again" come to mind, and this should not happen in ANY Olympic venue. Politics and hate have no place where the Olympics are being done. Don't worry about the money lining the pockets that the IOC have, just the games themselves bring us closer together as humanity and the spirit of sportsmanship. May the families of the captured Israeli team members, those that were killed, and their generation continue to uphold their memories and dash away any evil that arises. We must all do better to come together as humans and share the same spirit that these Games gives us.
Well said sir...unfortunately the majority of the world doesn't think like you and I. That's the real tragedy...lack of compassion for your fellow human being
Ok when will we memoralize and talk about the 3 million palestinians that were killed by zionist Israel before and since then? Killing millions of palestinians in cold blood and uprooting millions from their land has led to this horrible incident let's keep that in mind also!
A friend of mine was an Israeli athlete (wrestler) who was on that Olympic team. When he missed the flight from Israel to Germany by 10 minutes he was beyond devastated...until the tragedy unfolded.
I remember a lot of this, I was 11 and my parents tried to keep some of it from me, but it was all anyone was talking about. In the back of my mind, I still think about it and worry for the Olympians each season.
Sylvia - my story is the same as yours. Our child like innocence has been tarnished by life's experiences but it is in this same innocence that I've always seen race as well. I am white & only saw a black person face to face at maybe 8 years old. But way before that, I loved my Native Americans & had to have the room with the cowboy & Indian wallpaper. If course it depicted them battling each other with their guns & arrows. I would be told straight up that white man came along & forced them off their land. Yep, mom & dad both white - dads parents came to America. I would be answered in similar fashion when asking about black people & slavery. I never understood why skin color mattered. What people fail to see is that IF YOU were that person across the room - of a different race, from a different land, from a different belief system. You've lived every moment of joy, sadness & pains that guy right there has lived.... Now, would YOU really be so different. I know that there are people out there that are mentally ill or for other reasons but I do think most people try to be the best they can. Damn, I do ramble. Sorry.
@@redrosewarrior2806 I appreciate the long response, I tend to go on when I'm passionate about something too. I agree completely, I grew up in Wisconsin and had very similar experiences to you, especially with the races exposure. During some of the civil unrest of the 60s my mom would lock the doors when we drove thru various areas of Milwaukee. I never understood it and I understood less why race even mattered. I've always judged people by their actions and heart. My mother was surprized at Back to School night in 2nd grade that my teacher was black, and when she got home asked why I didn't tell her. My answer was why, was i supposed to? I didn't care, my teacher was awesome and that was all that mattered to me. I still feel that way about it. And the more we highlight our differences and attack those differences the longer the divides will last. I wish people xould find it in their hearts to be kinder to each other. Maybe hatred is our population control. I don't like it at all.
I remember it but was too young to understand the underlying shit. Also, Vietnam was on the news everyday so, nothing new. Come to think of it, there seemed to be a lot of hijackings back then too.
But you don't hear or care about what Palestinians endure to this day, do you? A dozen athletes who died 50 years ago are still more important than millions of people because they belonged to the Chosen People.
“Less than 50 years before…” It was a lot less than 50 years before, since in 1972, this would be only 27 years after the Holocaust ended in 1945 with the liberation of the camps. To put that in context, it’s akin to me remembering something that happened in 1996, in 2023. The fact these people went to Germany when they got the Olympics is astonishing.
I was 6. Though I vaguely remember the moon landing, this was the first major world event where it hit me that the world can be an ugly place. I think that was when "good terrorist = dead terrorist" first entered my mind (if not those exact words). No attempts at justifying it have ever succeeded with me.

Just remember you watched a movie, a fictional fantasy created by a stooge and propagandist like Spielberg. If you want reality about Mossad and their "assets', be sure to read all about the slaughter of thousands of Palestinian women and children at Sabra and Shatila carried out by Mossad asset Elie Hobeika while the Israeli military, although promising the US they would protect them, stood by and let it happen, or the blowing up of 80 schoolgirls leaving a mosque in Beirut in 1985 trying to assassinate Fadlallah. Don't get me wrong, the torture, killing, and mutilation of Israeli athletes was a horrible act, and anyone in Black September (I think that's what they called themselves) that was responsible deserved any retribution they got, but trying to paint Mossad as some sort of righteous retribution gang is a mistake. Eventually, every side become sleazeballs.

It's weird how apolitical the Olympics are--the previous 1968 games in Mexico City saw the Tlatelolco massacre, which alone should have resulted in increased security.
That should have resulted in increased security in Mexico because it was a sign of potential rioting that might affect the Olympics. Although the US was backing the corrupt government (quel surprise), it was an internal affair, and the government did all the killing. It had no implications for future Olympic Games. Whereas the motive for the Munich Massacre was an international affair, terrorists were the killers, and an Olympic team was targeted onsite, during the games. The Mexican body count was far higher, but the event was less of a threat to the Olympic Games themselves. And one of the criticisms of West Germany was that their security was much more lax than previous Games, suggesting that there was no lack of security in Mexico City. My preference would have been for the IOC to cancel the Mexico City Games and hold them somewhere else, but that wouldn't have been possible. Countries that host the Olympics should meet the minimum requirement that they don't slaughter their own people, or at least that they haven't done so in a certain number of decades.

@@RobespierreThePoof Films combine visual and auditory elements, making it easier for some people to understand and remember historical events. Seeing historical settings, costumes, and hearing the sounds of the time can create a more immersive and impactful experience. Films often aim to evoke emotional responses, which can create a stronger connection to the historical events being portrayed. This emotional engagement can make the history more relatable and memorable. Watching a film is often faster and more convenient than reading a book, making it easier for people with busy schedules or those who find reading challenging to access historical information. Films can reach a wider audience, including those who might not usually read history books. This can help to disseminate historical knowledge more broadly. Filmmakers use storytelling techniques, such as character development and narrative arcs, to make history more compelling. This can help to maintain interest and make complex historical events more understandable. Films can show historical context visually, such as the architecture, fashion, and social dynamics of a time period, which might be harder to visualize from text alone. However, it's important to note that while films can be a powerful tool for learning history, they also come with limitations, such as potential biases, artistic license, and the necessity to condense and simplify complex events. Therefore, it's often beneficial to complement film with reading books or other detailed sources for a more comprehensive understanding.

We have a population that doesn’t produce enough people to sustain itself anyway:) we can make room for vulnerable people who are running away from persecution.
I was 8 years old when this happened. A couple of years later I watched a documentary about it and I remember, to this day, a German hostage negotiator who said to one of the terrorists, "What do you think you'll accomplish by killing Jews in Germany?" I have always been a history freak, and that phrase really lit the fire of a lifelong love of learning.
I'm not sure why, but the event that I've always remembered is when the terrorist threw a handgrenade into the helicopter with the hostages tied up inside. Just imagine the fear they felt those seconds before it exploded.
I remember as a boy being filled with national pride when Mary Peters won Britains only athletics Gold medal at Munich. There was so much celebration because she was from my part of the UK. And then just a couple of days later being horrified at what happened to the Israeli athletes in the Village. Very sad and tragic. It really overshadowed what should have been a joyous occasion. Terrorists are the same all over.
I remember years ago hearing that Germany was trying not to come off like they did in 1936 so their security was very lax and that was the origin of the situation.
It’s heart breaking 😢 they had to try to act as their own security and fight their kidnappers themselves. They lost their lives 😔 but they went down trying to protect themselves and their fellow athletes.
As awful as this event was, it led to the creation of GSG-9 and The entire concept of Police SWAT. Much like in industry and how rules and regulations are written in blood, answers to tactical situations only come from extraordinary circumstances. It's a terrible reality, but it's reality.
I am Canadian. I watched this as it happened (at least everything i could find i lived in a rural area and tv channels were limited resulting in news flash reports). I will never forget my horror and disbelief that this could ever happen. You report has given me much more info than i had known. They made so many mistakes here. The risk assessment from pre-olympics was excellent and should have been followed through. They police should have brought in military for assistance especially as they were dealing with a paramilitary team. And all of the info on tv? How could they have never cut off all media? An unforgettable horror. I will never forget this!
They were trying hard to be the opposite of fascist Nazis. Cutting off all TV coverage would undermine that. What would be a more typical response is to cut off the electricity to the building so the terrorists couldn't watch the broadcasts. That sort of tactic was in use in 1972. I do think Jim McKay (who I love!) crossed a line though in calling so much attention to the snipers. That sorta happened again at the beginning of Desert Storm in 1991. CNN's Baghdad bureau was still open and broadcasting live during the US bombing. (My memory is that this went on for a couple days, but I'm not really sure.) They shut down their operations when they learned Saddam Hussein was using their live video coverage to track the US attacks.
Of course, they have every reason to feel that they were unjustly invaded and driven off land their families had occupied for centuries, to the complete lack of interest of the rest of the world.
@@dharmagirl5889 Actually, the majority had come from surrounding Arab countries in the late 1900s and early 2000s for the work opportunities due to the future Israelis draining the swamps and greening the desert.

@@johngurlides9157 Yeah that was the point I was making. The Germans didn't have scopes on the rifles. At the time the Israelis were geared for that sort of thing.

Great video. The documentary narrated by Michael Douglas titled ‘One Day in September’ is an excellent documentary on this event. They continued with the Olympic Games the whole time that this hostage crisis was occurring.
You should check your history. It's inaccurate to say that, in 1972, the holocaust had occurred less than 50 years earlier; more like - less than 30 years earlier.
03:06 "Israel and palestine were in a conflict for years" "....after Palestinians lost their homeland" False. Is this an alternative history channel? There was NO "Palestinian" state to be lost. Palestine was a temporary british Mandate, not a country. This is revisionist history and we have to stop propogading the myth about the Palestinian country that never existed. Rghe "Palestinians" have been referring to themselves as Arabs until the Egyptian born Arafat founded the PLO in 1964, a mere 8 years before the massacare. Just because some Arabs who lived there WANTED to create a Muslim fundementalist state in Israel's place by force doesn't mean they had the legal right to. They failed and this plan never came into fruition.
I was in my first year as a trainee journo and in the newspaper's teleprinter room when a news flash came over from our reporter in Munich. I've never forgotten the wording: "Gunfire has been heard in the Olympics village." I've heard that over several years Mossad eliminated nearly all those involved in the Black September plot.
The German police were so inept. They televised their planned attacks, but the hostage takers were watching the whole thing on tv. The police who abandoned the plane. Not enough snipers,no protective gear and basic stupidity. Hopefully this will not happen again
Please dont forget how many chances that the Israelis put forth a 2 state solution where Jews would get a homeland and the Palestinians would have theirs. Each time, they were turned down. They just wanted the Jews dead. Also, do you expect for someone to not defend themselves if they are repeatedly attacked? Israel didn't start the fighting.
I watched this happen as a kid- heartbreaking to learn now about mishandling the situation & careless planning for the athletes protection. The good guy gets dismissed. How typical
I remember this all in real time I was 10 years old and watched this on television. The terrorist with the cap pulled over his head standing on the balcony scared me and haunted me for years.
It wasn't a swat team, there was no such thing in the german police in that time. Those were basically just regular police officers that volunteered to take part in the operation
@@HappyBeezerStudios The unit that left the plane were police officers trained for bank robbery. That was the biggest threat imaginable at that time. Your last statement is untrue. The political issues between Germany and Israel have been very much resolved. The families of the deceased were even compensated for their loss, invited to a memorial ceremony and received a national apology from Germany. Unless you mean three political issues between Israel and Palestine. Those are not likely to be resolved until the nations allied to Israel and Palestine start putting pressure on them.
In retaliation for the murder of the eleven athletes, Mossad removed every assassin, one by one. To leave a clear message of purpose, they began by plugging the first to go with eleven bullets-one for each slain Israeli. But killing was too lenient for these bloodsuckers. For some hits, Mossad had obituaries published before the action, and flowers sent to women about to be widowed. (I reference Gordon Thomas’ “The Secret History of the Mossad.”)
I was in high school.. I remember that Olympics, a friend was riding equestrian events and I was watching everything I could that year. The fear of what was happening, and knowing it was the Israeli team that was attacked was horrifying. I was also a fan of Mark Spitz, who won 7 Gold for the US in swimming that year. He was also Jewish and they ended up spiriting him away from the Olympic Village in case there were terrorists who wanted "a high value target". So many mistakes by so many in charge and there were kids in Israel who lived with no fathers because of this.
@Morpheus Lol "after watching this, I can confirm this movie is shxt!" What makes you such an authority that your confirmation carries any weight? Sounds more like an opinion to me.

It's almost like punishing any U.S. officials for what happened on 9/11 or for Pearl Harbor during WW2 where intelligence (which most is bull shit) was ignored
Everyone was thrilled by Mark Spitz's outstanding performance. What a shame that soon afterwards events unfolded that violated the underlying principles of the Olympic Games: peace, comradeship, and friendly competition. that
The palestinians didn't "lost their homeland" in 1948 as claimed in the video. There never was an independent "Palestinian" state, land or country. They started a war to ethnic cleanse the land of jews and then in 1948 the neighbouring arab countries joined (invaded) to destroy Israel. During this war that they started, thousands of local arabs fled or were expelled for harboring invading soldiers in their villages. Many arabs chose to stay and live in peace in Israel. At the same time, the invading armies completely ethnic cleansed of jews the land they were able to occupy (the so-called West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem.) The narrator in the video claims they wanted to "regain control of the land", which is something that never existed! The land was controlled by the Ottomans before the British Mandate. Then from 1948 until 1967 the West Bank was controlled by Jordan, who claimed it as theirs and Gaza controlled by Egypt. The so-called palestinians (meaning local arabs, forget about the palestinian jews) only got any control of some land thanks to the Oslo Accords and the good faith of Israel in exchanging land for peace (it didn't worked).
@@familyandfriends3519 thats disrespectful to the German snipers that put their lives on the line to save the Jews. If the Germans hated Isreal then they wouldn't be there defending the jews.
Crazy thing was that the German sharpshooters weren’t even given proper sniper rifles they were issued with standard issue assault rifles with regular iron sights
The Israelis conducted Operation Wrath Of God afterwards. They hunted down and assassinated the terrorists, but also killed some innocent bystanders during the operation.
What was supposed to be a peaceful event of friendly competition became clouded in death and blood. Israel should have been allowed to bring in their own sharpshooters and deal with it their own way. Israel don't play when it comes to dealing with terrorists. The Munich police screwed up from the start when it came to security. Plus, they had reliable information about this but did nothing to stop it? That says a lot...
I was outside the perimeter fence and saw the buses with the terrorists and the hostages drive away. I went to the memorial service in the Olympic stadium with a couple of US athletes.
It was from this tragedy that the elite counter terrorist special operations unit GSG-9 (Bundesgrenzschutz) was born. The events from the 1972 Olympic games served as a wakeup call for the West German government that they needed to drastically change their tactical approach to terrorist/hostage situations. Since 1972 the GSG-9 has carried out over 1500 operations, two of which are notable as they were successful in ending terrorist highjackings of commercial aircraft.
Remember watching this as a young boy . Fast forward to 2021. Acts of terrorism still happening only to make things worse. And a deep profound resentment for those perpetrating it ..
In the film: that scene where the Terrorists were mistakenly put in the Same Hotel room with the Israeli avengers...was a CLASSIC. They turned on the old radio, and Reverend Al Green was playing. There were Other films made about Munich, and its' Aftermath, to be Sure. I saw one, years ago, at a Jewish Film Festival.
I'll give this video a generation D+. Some interesting points that most people probably weren't aware, a significant fact that illustrated how indifferent the German Police were to the Israeli victims was omitted, and the lie that is now mainstream which is the cause of worldwide support for terrorism. The fact omitted: this event took place when the world still didn't know how to deal with terrorists, and this hostage taking was particular foreign as most country's had no kind of training or experience to deal with such terrorism. In fact, the only country in the world that had squads who did have the experience to deal with this type of situation, who did have the training, was Israel. Golda Meir sent 2 top agents from the Mossad to Munich who then asked the German police if they would allow them to handle the situation and was told 'no'. They asked if they could assist and advise the German police and that request was turned away as well. The lie: the narrator tells talks about the conflict between Israel and Palestine. Palestine, for almost 2000 years, was always considered the Jewish homeland formerly called Judea. It wasn't until Arafat, in the face of much consternation by other Arab leaders, began promoting the myth of Palestine as an ancient Arab homeland as reality. You state that "the Palestinians lost their homeland in 1949" - a statement so foolish it would be laughable if it wasn't so tragic. After WW1 and the creation of other Arab states, the land from the Iraq border to the Mediterranean sea was referred to as 'Palestine' and the people living there Palestinians. And there were Arab Palestinians, and there were Jewish Palestinians. Even the Arab Palestinians didn't come up with the idea of a national Arab Palestinian identity until the mid-60's. They should have talked to the copy writers of this video and they could have given themselves an extra 15 years or so.
Actually, Jesse Helms is no longer alive. But yes, when he was in the Senate he indeed was of this mindset. He held a reception honoring El Salvador death squad members who had led massacres of innocent Salvador’s citizens.
Everybody wants to blame the Munich police. Yes, they did a terrible job of preventing this but how about blaming the terrorists? The problem with the world today is nobody blames the people who actually commit the crimes.
Faulting the Munich police for ignoring clear warnings does not mean people are not blaming the killers.

The Israeli-Palestinian situation and what Black September did to the athletes are separate matters. I support a Palestinian homeland. Same for the USSR’s treatment of the Baltic states, Spain and Catalonia, China and Tibet. The murdered athletes were killed out of spite and sadism, not a liberation cause.
The guy had 26 scenarios and the Germans ignored it!? Oh man. I bet they feel like absolute jackasses for not taking the guy's scenarios seriously...
And then they fired him.
That's how some historical tragedies or triumphs occur. Scenarios are run from experts and analysts and they're given to those in charge and they are ignored; being seen as impossible or unlikely. Events that come to mind are 9/11, The D-Day invasion, Pearl Harbor, and Jonestown.

1948,London aftermath of WW2.
1936,Berlin.. totally political with Nazi crap .
Never in the history of the world was there a country or land called "Palestine," nor was there ever a "Palestinian" people. "Palestine" is an occupation term referring to The Land of Israel. Like the Dutch East Indies to Indonesia, Rhodesia to Zimbabwe, Bechuanaland to Botswana and Ceylon to Sri Lanka, "British Palestine" returned to be Israel. Quebec/Canada did a good job on security. I also remember attending the Israel/France soccer game, a lot of people booing the Israeli team. There is a whole lot of anti-semitism in the world.
I attended some kind of event at the 76 Olympics, but I don't know what event it was my mother and I had terrible seats People were standing, and I was still short at 8 years old.
I still appreciate that she tried to give me the experience of attending the Olympics.
@@m_christine1070 I'm envious of both of you! I was 9 (in 76), living here in Minnesota. I think there's something to be said for a big strong dad with shoulders you can sit on to see whatever's happening :)
@Schimined, I can understand anger and outrage against a nation that commits bad acts, but generalizing that to hatred of a people and a religion, and specifically to individuals, I will never understand that. People who hate Jews just need more Jewish friends. People who hate Muslims need to get to know them, and if they're incredibly fortunate, get invited to a Muslim home as a dinner guest! We need to stop seeing whole groups of people as "the alien other."
Behind every safety measure there is virtually always an unspeakable tragedy.
I’m glad to hear that my country kept you and the olympians safe:) since we are the fourth safest country in the world:) we actually aren’t always the most knowledgeable about complicated security situations 😔 so I am glad that they listened to professionals and took the situation seriously.
I am sorry for the antisemitism though 😢 it is true, we suffer from that affliction as well as so many other countries do. In 1939, the MS St. Louis (the ship of the damned) was sent out with ~900 Jewish refugees and Canada was one of the countries that rejected them 🥺 I think of that every time our government suggests bringing more refugees into our country.
Irony Germany probably help planned it
Kidnapping and murder and 'Palestinian' have always been pretty much synonyms.
So have the terms European Zionist Nazi, genocide, murder, rape and apartheid synonymous with Israel.
I'm not sure why, but the event that I've always remembered is when the terrorist threw a handgrenade into the helicopter with the hostages tied up inside. Just imagine the fear they felt those seconds before it exploded.
Something Hamas did in their Nova Music festival massacre. They are all the same.

Hanas did the same thing on 10/7/23
I remember watching this on TV as it was happening. I was only 12 and it really scared me. It was tough to realize these terrible things could happen.

As I recall, Mark Spitz was removed from the Olympic village for his own safety, as he was Jewish.

Important note is that GSG-9 is a federal police unit. Even after the 1972 incident, Germany did not want to have an overly militaristic appearance.

And this still goes on today….
