  • Cavagrande laghetti is a nature reserve just outside Avola in Sicily. It is part of the river of Cassibile and at the bottom of the Canyon there are pools where you can swim after an exhausting hike down from the parking lot. The water is quite cold when we went there although it was already early days of summer. It was right after lockdown so there weren’t many people but i’m sure it can get really packed during peak of summer.
It was a bit of a hike for me but i’m sure for fit people it will just be a regular hike. It took us 1 and a half hour to get down and looot longer to go back up but it was worth it. The views are spectacular and the pools are so amazing I would definitely hike again if there’s a chance.
There are a lot of nice places to explore in Sicily apart from the touristy places and if you have more than a week to spare, then this place is definitely a must visit.

We went in June so the water was a little bit cold to swim but it was a nice weather for hiking.

    Which path did you take?:)

Sorry for the very late reply but we took the one with the closed path and just went over the fence. This hike was in 2020 so I don’t know if the hiking trail was still closed or if they finally reopened it.
