I think people being supported by the govt should be required to work on government projects - clean up trash, work in government offices - even if it’s part-time.
Right, and the heavy lady who says that she cannot stand etc. put her to work answering phones (sitting on her bum) for example. I mean she sits on her bum at home ALL DAY!
I totally agree I wouldn’t ask them to look for a job I would assign them to a position that they could do whether it be sitting down or however it would work but in order to receive the benefits they would need to show up to the assignment that they were given if they don’t like the job they were assigned they’re welcome to find a different one on their own but in the meantime in order to receive benefits they would have to work of course this is not for everyone this is for people who have the ability to work who are just not doing it

I grew up not necessarily "poor" but we were definitely lower middle class. Our home was SPOTLESS! Even though we didn't have much, my mother always made sure that we were fed properly, had clothes on our backs and our home was CLEAN!
I was born in Yorkshire and we didn't have much money but my mother kept her very modest home clean, tidy and clutter free. I would say we were 'working class'; My dad didn't earn huge wages, but he was never on benefits. We never had take away meals, only what mum cooked. I remember us being a happy family in a different generation of how it is today.
I’m a single mom in the states. I currently cannot work due to a work-related injury, and while money is tight, I can still properly clothe and feed my kids and my home is very clean. Just because we don’t have a ton of money, it doesn’t mean that we have to live in a total mess. I don’t understand some of these people - they’re home ALL DAY, what are they doing?!
When she complained about the TV being expensive in hospital- I cried in American. I know the system there has its flaws, too...but.....man lol I wish TV was my main worry about a hospital visit. I cant afford to even walk by a hospital.
Seriously! $5000 for an ambulance ride less that six minutes away from husband's place of work to a hospital. Ambulances are not coverd by most insurance plans. For me it was an hour stay at the emergency room. Total cost was just over $13000. Luckily my copay was only $125. It's no wonder why most bankruptcies are from medical costs here in the US.
You can afford it if you were on insurance through the Affordable Care Act. No one in the U.S. needs to not have insurance. Some choose not to so they just rely on emergency rooms. This is ridiculous because taxpayers end up paying higher costs because these lazy idiots refuse to pay a low monthly payment for health insurance. There is no excuse for not having health insurance. People on benefits who can’t work don’t even have to pay for it. It is now a myth that Americans have little access to affordable health care. Is it too high priced? Yes, hospitals charge ridiculous amounts for health care but the government should be putting a cap on what is charged.
Oh good lord.. My heart goes out to residents of the US regarding medical costs.. Truly it does. It's jaw dropping for most of the rest of the world actually, to see the insanity of medical costs there.. I dragged my husband out of Leeds in the mid eighties. Best decision ever as he’s never been out of work here in Australia. Our two kids went to good schools and have great jobs plus we own our home now . Yes we have problems here in Aus too but not like in Yorkshire .
I’ve been watching a lot of these series and still can’t understand why none of these mothers are getting child support from the fathers of their children. Does the British government not even try to track the fathers down to garnish their wages before handing out tax-payer funds to raise their kids?
There is no point when the fathers have no job either. Once upon a time benefits was meant to be a 'hand up' until you got back on your feet, somewhere along the line benefits became a 'handout' this over time snowballed to a way of life. In the last 30 yrs kids only see there parents not working and happily living on benefits, sadly - "children see, children do" It is now a way of life in the UK and it is now the same in Australia only here they don't get as much as in the UK, which I think is good. I can't speak for the UK but here there are plenty of jobs if you WANT to work, the problem is the majority of unemployed are to choosy, they only want certain work, it's outrageous.

There are plenty of decent citizens in Yorkshire.
There were still jobs back then because you were still bringing in almost free raw materials from militarily occupied lands you called colonies. You were sucking them dry and taking everything while they had nothing but poverty and starvation. Now that racket is gone. Now is real life. Enjoy 😂😂
Just because you’re poor doesn’t mean you can’t be clean. I raised two kids on my own. I wasn’t rich but my kids had a roof, good food, heat and love. I found work part time which helped heaps. I was lucky in that my ex paid maintenance which helped with school fees and uniforms etc.
I believe in supporting those who need help. I also believe that there should be a limit to how many years someone can accept the help. Give a new mom two years, train her in while she is getting benefits. Prepare the people for work. I know that limiting funding limits a childs potential, but the ones who ARE WORKING and PAYING taxes shouldnt be the sole support for someone who chooses to have 5-6 children instead of working. I wanted to have two children but realized that I wouldnt be able to afford it, so I only had 1. I worked all through nursing school as well. Took public transportation to from school and my place of work. A work ethic has to be engrained when children are young. After seeing "Generations" of families "ON the DOLE" its easy to see why upcoming teens dont see the need to work.

I've heard of people secretly making money under the table until someone snitched on them and then they have to pay back the benefit money with a fine after quitting either the benefits or the job.
Don't know what it's like there, but here you can earn up to like a £100 on benefits, depending on the benefit how much, and not lose any of the benefit. You really are better off to work one day a week, and benefits with that are nearly like minimum income job. So working 2, 3, or 4 days a week doesn't provide any benefit, once you take into account travel and shit

I asked around, because I know a few men in their early 50s who’ve never worked a day in their lives. How do they convince the DWP medical assessment people they’re unfit for work? Easy, apparently, take a companion with you, as obviously, you can’t leave the house because of anxiety and pretend to get highly agitated in the surroundings there, plus play up on your drug taking related symptoms, which you googled. . ( fortunately, they can still make it to the their dealer who lives a few streets away ) ….. So I asked a few people who are genuinely ill and were declared unfit for work by a qualified doctor at their official medical . Then the Gov decided to reassess everyone. This time they employed predominantly nurses. Questions asked “ do you watch Coronation Street ( yes, seriously..because if the answer is yes, it means you can concentrate for at least half an hour ) Can you use a mobile phone ? Manual dexterity Can you move an empty cardboard box from left to right ? No, I don’t know why …. How far can you walk …if you got there by bus, you obviously make it to the bus stop and back without problems, never mind stopping every few yards with breathing difficulties or mobility etc Many of those people were declared fit for work, I know two who died within a year from their illnesses. The druggies, oh..they’re still doing fine at home …they’ll qualify for some type of state pension too, topped up by pension credit and it’s associated other financial help.

I'm sure they explained to Adel that when you lose a large amount of weight quickly, it can cause gallstones. It's not the surgery that messed up her body. It's fixing the damage she has caused herself that's causing problems.
John's attitude about council houses are why people are questioning who they should go to, a council property is to suit your needs, one person one bedroom property, want a family home go out and buy one, personally I think the council tenants should be reassessed every 5 years as needs change through life.
It's not usually council houses, it's privately rented houses that the govt is paying the rent on, however it would still free them up to be used by families who require them.

in The Netherlands we have to pay health insurance monthly from 18 year €200 a month!. Also we pay out of our work tax double for insurance. Your lucky with the NHS
I'm in Germany. I'm self-employed and I pay 575€ a month health insurance, and about another 400 or so towards my state pension. Brits don't know they're born.
Is it €200 now? When I left NL in 2008, I think I was paying €140, which is a big increase, as I paid €95 or thereabouts when i first moved there in 2006/7.
not exactly. i am a single person and pay around 119 euro a month for comprehensive coverage. plus around 375 a year deductible. you get a monthly insurance allowance based on how much money you make. So yes you have to pay but each month less affluent people get that money back. also everyone with a child gets child allowance irrespective of work situation and childcare allowance if you work. also everyone at 18 can apply for social housing. there is a big wait list if you want to live in an attractive area but the rental price is controlled AND you get a monthly benefit for that indexed to your income. So a LOT of people in the Netherlands are 'on the dole'. its just not called that here. its called allowances. welfare is on top of that.
In the Netherlands you can go to a dentist every few months and doctors daily. The Dutch system is endlessly better than the nhs. Good luck finding an appointment with a dentist for the next three years. Also if you are paying 200 euros you must be very sick, or need to get a better insurance. I pay 100 euros including dentist coverings.

When she complained about the TV being expensive in hospital- I cried in American. I know the system there has its flaws, too...but.....man lol I wish TV was my main worry about a hospital visit. I cant afford to even walk by a hospital.
Exactly
I moved to the United States from the UK in 2019 and now I earn between 3000 and 5000 pcm. Anything is possible if you apply yourself!

EVERYONE says: "MY money" Is it REALLY THEIR money??! WTF is that guy doing living in a 3 bedroom flat??! This show makes me sick, yet it's addictive viewing. They ALL have money for cigs/ alcohol. "Let's get the groceries DELIVERED"? WTF? And they ALL need to STOP downloading children that they damned well cannot afford!!! Why do taxpayers with no kids/ or paying for kids of their OWN, have to foot the bill for your nasty unprotected romps in the sack?
Is that a British thing? This is the second comment, maybe 3rd, about "downloading" children. I don't get it.
@@calliew311 It's a sarcastic way of saying 'having kids', as in STOP having sex/kids, that you can't afford!

@Yvon Q. 100% CORRECT!
I agree 100%. It's irresponsible and frankly antisocial behaviour. It used to be that you'd have to go out and work to feed your kids or you'd starve! Nowadays, we're actually rewarding this kind of entitled, selfish, short-sighted behaviour. These people make horrrible parents. Think about what their kids will learn from them? They'll hardly become useful members of society.
That lady that says she can't work because she has arthritis is a real trip. I'm 53 with debilitating arthritis and such severe pain that it keeps me up all night at times and I've worked as a nurse for the past 31 years. I work 12-16 hour shifts in a busy hospital. It just about kills me but I don't have a choice. If I want to keep a roof over my head, I have to work. I would never try and dupe the system to get freebies handed to me. Then you should apply for disability. That's not playing or working the system since you have a legitimate medical condition, you shouldn't have to work that long and hard. Or you should be an at home nurse or something where it's not 15 patients for 12 hour shifts.
Edit: I just reread my comment and it might come off aggressive, and that's not my intention, so if I offended you, I'm sorry. I just meant, someone like you who has a legitimate condition and pain, has worked over 30 years, is EXACTLY the type of person disability was made for, someone who has paid in, in taxes, and has pain and should take it easy. I know it's not the same as your salary, but, hopefully it could be enough to pay your bills and hopefully you'd have your retirement soon. Good luck and again, I'm sorry. I wrote a comment, like matter of fact, but didn't realize the tone it could give. ✌️
She has a terrible attitude. I felt like shouting at her when she started saying that not having free TV and stuff wasn't fair.
OMG yes! She is just fat and lazy and doesn't want to work and I'm sorry to judge Lord forgive me but she made me mad! I have Necrotizing Myopathy which is a progressive autoimmune disease that kills my muscles basically along with Gout and Rheumatoid Arthritis and I worked up until this year from being diagnosed in 2017. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't earning money from a boot-sale go against the rules of collecting benefits? I've heard of people secretly making money under the table until someone snitched on them and then they have to pay back the benefit money with a fine after quitting either the benefits or the job.
Don't know what it's like there, but here you can earn up to like a £100 on benefits, depending on the benefit how much, and not lose any of the benefit. You really are better off to work one day a week, and benefits with that are nearly like minimum income job. So working 2, 3, or 4 days a week doesn't provide any benefit, once you take into account travel and shit
John is a pure lazy person. Healthy guy capable of any job. By people like him, the system is under strain
He's a selfish jerk. 3 bedrooms? Straight greedy, a nice family could use that house
Totally agree, John complains he can't go out and socialize as much, why does it have to involve spending money of which you have f-ck all, you're not in a position to demand what someone should pay you, have some pride in yourself and give at least every job a go that comes your way
Most people in this are all able bodied to work but why would they when they can relax all day and have no responsibility.
@David Good question, I think they do but there is always ways around it to people who are motivated to not have to work and essentially live off the government.
@David Right but most of them have paid or are paying their own mortgages, meaning it's their home they can do what they like - Jon is in a RENTED home completely paid for by the taxpayer, and he's complaining that they want him to move to a smaller one, since he's not even paying for it, and he has the gall to complain - has zero self-awareness.

Questions asked “ do you watch Coronation Street ( yes, seriously..because if the answer is yes, it means you can concentrate for at least half an hour )
Can you use a mobile phone ? Manual dexterity
Can you move an empty cardboard box from left to right ? No, I don’t know why ….
How far can you walk …if you got there by bus, you obviously make it to the bus stop and back without problems, never mind stopping every few yards with breathing difficulties or mobility etc
Many of those people were declared fit for work, I know two who died within a year from their illnesses.

Her not eating the correct diet definitely helped get those gallstones
And look what she's eating now! She hasn't changed her diet at all, except to mush up unhealthy food.
Only have one thing to say. Been a registered nurse for 38 years and never have I heard of a scope down the stomach causing gallstones. Oh well. Takes all kinds
What's sickening is they ALL justify their bone idleness and supposed ailments without any kind if self-awareness. Their sense of entitlement is breathtaking.
They need money for tobacco, for pets, because they want to have a baby or a holiday abroad. Then all they do is gripe about how the hand-out isn't enough. in The Netherlands we have to pay health insurance monthly from 18 year €200 a month!. Also we pay out of our work tax double for insurance. Your lucky with the NHS
Yes, but the NHS is collapsing, the system is just wrong
It's amazing to me that single people get all this money and don't even try to find a job. In America if you're single and not working you're homeless and you get no help whatsoever. You have to have a job to take care of yourself.
