The Franco-Prussian War was a conflict between the two great powers of Europe who were vying for dominance over the continent.
This war eventually leads to the formation of the German Empire and the end of the Second French Empire.
But how did Prussia aka the North German Confederation actually beat France when France was viewed as one of the strongest continental powers in Europe?
How did the war look like and how did it start?
Well you can find that all out in this great video by the Armchair Historian!
After playing Prussia himself in the latest Hearts of Iron 4 video, Tommy figured out that he doesn't know much about German history.
Being a German himself and not knowing some of the most important history for Germany is a little weird so it's time Tommy learns from one of the best history channels on RUclips, the Armchair Historian.
In this video we will find out how Germany was united and how it became a Great Power after centuries of division, how Prussia crushed France this easily and the end of the last Napoleon.
Thanks again to the Armchair Historian for this great content!
REMEMBER! This is all educational and for entertainment! We will moderate comments, so behave yourself and keep it educational.

So after that last Prussia video, Tommy realized he knows absolutely nothing about German history in the 19th Century.
I know right, how does a German actually not know anything about the unification of Germany and about this war in general.
Well anyways that's why he's going to be watching Armchair Historian's Video on the Franco-Prussian War!

4:35 My family has always kept good track of our family lineage and history. One of our most venerated ancestors was an American Cavalry commander who took part in the American-Mexican War, and fought for the Union during the Civil War. He was highly decorated and survived both conflicts. Since I've always had a much greater interest in history than the rest of my family, I managed to convince everyone to let me have his sabre. It's a family relic at this point.

Bismarck strongly industrialized Germany in the end of the 19th. He also prevented Germany from colonies, in order to concentrate capital in Germany. As a result, even industrialized, Germany had fewer colonies than Belgium for example. It was only later that Germany launched its colonial conquest, in Europe. We know the rest...
Why does this makes me sad that I will never be able to see how Königsberg would look like if it was still German?
@Renan_PS The soviet governments specialty was essentially destroying cultures and annexing regions.
Now that I think of it, maybe that's just Russia's specialty in general...
@Erwin Rommel Uhm, because of the name, I hope this is roleplay
@Renan_PS Allies: ,,Let's not punish Germany too badly, it might lead to nationalism rizing again."
Stalin: ,,I apprechiate your input, butplease, fuck off!"
And ironic that nationalism is actually the strongest in former soviet Germany, although there were a lot of political mistakes which lead to this.
@Erwin Rommel 😂😂😂 it wasn't the soviets neither is the Russians who have the pos modern art in their cities.
@@leon1x1 it is not ironic. While in the comunist bloc they said the rise of fascism in Germany and ww2 was the fauld of capitalism, in the west capitalist countries they just said the fault was all because of German patriotism, militarism and the German people themselves. In East Germany, the people were much more patriotic germans than in west Germany, already before the unification.

The ultimate form of humility, is losing an offensive war.
How does he not know this, this is basic history.
Because people don't know everything you know about, this is history and history is not told the same way to everyone, sometimes school doesn't cover everything (even important periods), I don't know how old you're but school programs change every 3 years or so (or at least that's what happens in France), if you don't read or learn history outside of school you don't usually know about a lot of history subject.
Because school curriculum isn't the same everywhere. In Ireland for example, only history from the 20th century is covered in detail and the rest is briefly glossed over.

Soviet "human wave tactics" are a myth, at least in the way most people think about them. The germans fighting alongside the eastern front perceived Soviet offensives as "human wave" attacks because one of the aspects of Deep Battle doctrine was to amass mass amounts of ground and air units in one area of the front in order to achieve a strategic breakthrough and disrupt the enemy's operational reserves.
