waited for this video, thanks Nick. the light on the driver side goes on when it is dark and you are moving your streched out hand up and down about 5cm/2inches. the hand has to be under the mirror. works quite good with a bit of exercise
We had this on a 23 E350 and had no clue until reaching for the passenger seat. Was startled a bit. But cool. I think my Coupe has it, now will have to check.
Hey Nick, We’ve had our new CLE 300 4Matic for just over a week now & thought I’d let you know of a few of the tech bits & bobs I’ve discovered. Re the navigation & which do I use? The Mercedes nav with augmented reality is great but you don’t get notifications for speed camera, roadworks, etc. BUT there’s a hack to have your cake & eat it too! If you call up Waze by holding the talk button on the steering wheel & telling Siri to launch Waze on the centre screen with your destination you get all of those helpful Waze notifications. Then you say Hey Mercedes & ask to launch the Mercedes nav with the same destination . What you get is the Merc nav with augmented reality on the centre screen plus you get the audio notifications from Waze about speed cameras, etc over the speakers !!Brilliant 👍🏻👍🏻 Re getting your cameras to come on when say going into a multi level car park where the lanes between those concrete kerbs are tight. I’ve set up a routine that when doing under 10kph the 360 cameras come on automatically. At home similar we have a long narrow drive & I’ve done similar but created another routine with our home address triggering the 360 cameras. It all works a treat - the Merc tech in the CLE is fantastic & I’m still discovering new things each drive👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Oh that’s cool! I know you can sort of simultaneously have both going (sort of) they are different applications and software though and just bear in mind that it can lead to one stealing the focus. So for example if you have what you said set up, if you receive a message on your phone CarPlay can pop up out of nowhere right when you’re trying to make that important turn. The routines are cool though, I want to make a video on them for sure!
Hey Nick I’ve had another play with it & discovered you only have to Waze active on your phone, don’t input a destination & use the Merc Nav with all of it’s benefits & you still get (just) the warnings for roadworks, police, etc with out the Waze navigation directions competing with the Merc directions. Cheering Best of Both Worlds 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Noticed the reading lights coming on in mine when my hand was up near it, but could not figure out how to consistently get it to work, and still can't! Very strange feature since your hand had to be close to the buttons anyway so you might as well just press it! The V gesture is interesting, no idea how you are supposed to find or know about that unless you're told haha
Thank you Nick I really love your reviews , I wish u could make some reviews on the Gulf versions... I know it's impossible.. so I try to pick by topic or feature I have here. Thank u again u r amazing
Thank you! 🙏 I have considered this although I think my lack of experience with towing would show immediately on video 😂 Plus I have nothing to tow 😅 It is on my list of potential future videos though!
Thanks for this. We opted not to have this on our vehicles when ordering (it was a stand-alone option in the US) as it just seemed gimmicky. After seeing this though I see how it could be useful.
Don’t think so! It’s on the new E-Class I filmed a few weeks ago, and on the new GLB facelift I have here on test at the moment. Not sure on C-Class or CLE though
Hi Nick. Thank you for these videos. They are extremely helpful. Would you consider doing a video on how communications work. For example, where does the Navigation app get its real time data? Satellite or the driver’s smartphone data? Where does Live Traffic data come from? Similarly, the weather app. I understand that Mercedes has functionality that allows it to communicate with other cars to anticipate hazards down the road. How is it able to communicate with other cars? Thanks very much.
Thank you! Glad you enjoy them! Haven’t considered doing a video on that particular topic, not sure how many would be interested but I can help answer that for you based on what I know 🤓 Mercedes use a collaboration of several companies, they typically HereWeGo Maps, for maps. TomTom Live Traffic for of course the Live Traffic functionality and a thing called Car to X Communication for the hazards between cars that you can report from the screen. Mercedes on some cars also show a Google symbol for POI search too I’ve seen!
@@npoleary Thanks, Nick, for your response. How do these services get the live data? From a satellite or do they use my iPhone data? I own a 2020 GLC 43 coupe. I pay for an annual subscription for the services and they have not been accessible on a consistent basis. I’ve been working with Merceds Me support and the dealership, without success. Thanks again.
Oh they connect over a Mercedes me account with uses a data connection just like a phone would. Mercedes often use Vodafone for their services and data connection. If you’re having problems, Mercedes me support is the one to go to first. If they can’t help diagnose anything over the phone (don’t email, phone is quicker) then book your car in with a dealership with their service department. They’ll check out the module etc that makes it work
Really informative video Nick! Thanks! Considering getting a version of the GLB but trying to decide between the premium plus or the exclusive launch edition, not sure what’s the difference between the two, but the later looks really appealing
Hey Nick, your A-class should be able to have the driver’s reading light come on as well. I have an A-class and what I find is that my drivers light comes on randomly when I’m talking and gesturing - so I haven’t been able to figure out what gesture makes it work - but it definitely does activate. Any chance you can find out how to make the drivers light work?
No sadly that’s just for cars with the MBUX Assistant. When I bought my car, this feature was on Premium Plus whereas I just have a Premium. That why I filmed this on a car I had access to for a week as I’d always wanted to make a video on it. It’ll happen if your hand goes over to the passenger area but it could trigger in similar situations. I think the driver’s light be if the passenger reaches over? Sadly I didn’t try that one! 😅
Nick as always great job. I have E53AMG(USA). IOS18, now when I plug in my phone car play starts and my satellite radio cuts off as car play is running, I have to then select satellite from the mbux and then it comes back on. This did not do that prior to IOS18 is there a setting I can change to keep that from happening? I also notice that Hey Mercedes stops working also. Very frustrating. Along with it not displaying on the full screen any thoughts or suggestions? Thank You
Thank you! 🙏 Hmmm, Apple did release an update recently iOS 18.1 if that helps? That sounds like Apple’s update is saying to the car, “I’m playing CarPlay stuff now” which would stop the radio. Not sure on that one. Hey Mercedes often doesn’t operate when using CarPlay, ideally you’re meant to use one or the other. However I have had it before that some systems I’ve seen allow you to use both. Not sure what the correlation is on that. Some people have reported that Vocal Shortcuts on iOS have been causing voice issues so not sure if you’re using them? Have you tried disconnecting both and re-pairing back up?
Sadly I wasn’t planning on a video just on the sunroof as it’s just one button with several functions. But trust me it’s really easy. You basically move that switch the way that you’d like to move the sunroof so if the glass is closed and visible. Pull the switch backward to open as if you’re pulling the sunroof open. Push away from you to close and also close the blind. And finally push up for vent and down for close. It mimics the way you would move the roof if you were adjusting it yourself if that makes sense!
@@npoleary Thank you so much for your response. I forgot to mention it’s the motion censored sunroof. I guess it’s a forward backward motion that makes it function lol. Thank you once again.
Ah yes if it’s the new one same rules apply Place your finger lightly on the surface in the area and move it in the direction you want it to go and then confidently remove your finger from the area. If you leave it there too long and then remove it, it’ll stop dead its tracks.
Hi Nick, Greetings from Australia. Very helpful videos, thank you. Nick, I have the 2022 AMG GLA 45S and was wondering if can you do a video on how to do a set up to have ‘WAZE’ be displayed on the vehicles MBUX (Android) car play, and, can it also display on the ‘HUD’. Thanks in advance
Hi! Ah awesome thank you! Well I have loads of videos on that topic! All on my channel! Just depends what phone you have as you mentioned Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (they’re completely separate) Just posted about CarPlay’s updates on Friday just gone: ruclips.net/video/WSqn5E_39B8/видео.html And Android Auto I made and produced at my local dealer: ruclips.net/video/hTSUQNey_jI/видео.html Sadly none of that will go to the hud as those two things are for the central screen only.
My 2019 B-class does not have it BUT this video doesn't show what happens after when you are near the mbux screen and it highlights something, how do you then activate it after it becomes bigger/focused. You then still have to touch the screen to really activate it?
Yes that’s all it does for that little feature. Just highlights stuff. So you still touch the screen to control it. Then there’s the other things shown in the video 🤓
So any car should always default to Comfort or the default driving mode, I’ve never seen a car stay in sport mode. Everytime the ignition turns off on any car I’ve reviewed or made a video on, it goes to Comfort straight away Have spoken to Mercedes?
Depends on the car, not all models have the same specification. It also does vary round the world so either check with Mercedes staff at a dealer, their website on their configurators, or on their eBrochures 🤓
Hello everyone. I have a 2023 facelift Mercedes A class through lease. The annual service was done at an independent shop and they couldn't reset the service date notification. Can I do it or it is only be done through Mercedes? Thank you!
@@npoleary thank you!! Here in Greece the lease companies have their own shops to perform the service and especially in a small Greek island that I am not even that. They did the service in an independent place, because (as you can understand) there is no Mercedes dealer here. I will call the Mercedes help center and find out if they can do it remotely.
Oh wow that is different, here in the UK if it’s leased you almost have to get it done by a main dealer. Really sorry they’ve never told me how to do that, not sure they’d consider sharing that with me! 😂😅
@@npoleary my friend, i made it!! I found a video (only one for such new car) and made the reset from Assyst plus on my own!! Thank you so much for your time!!
is spending 350$ to enable carplay worth it in your opinion? the slow built-in bluetooth connectivity has been bugging me these first few weeks with my new a250e
I love using Apple CarPlay so wanted to make sure that my next car had it. I’ll always make sure my cars have it unless the multimedia is that good like in Tesla where you actually don’t need it. I’m an Apple fan so I naturally gravitate toward it anyway, but do use a combo of Apple Maps, Google Maps and Waze.
Hey Nick, love your videos…..new Mercedes 2024 GLA 250 owner here. Is it normal for the display screen to get very hot? We live in Florida, granted temperatures get in the high 80’s~ 90’s Noticed this with just driving around approximately 20-30 minutes. Is this normal or abnormal?? Thanks
I mean it can do, any display in a car can get hot, they’re black so will often absorb heat naturally like that. I think car manufacturers use Gorilla Glass or something similar and have very clever heat reflecting properties. The bit that we touch is very hot in direct sunlight but internally it will be protected, they’re rated up to a very high temp!
Interior Assistant is THE WORST FEATURE. It's triggered when you don't want it, and never works when you do. And if you turn it off, and it somehow mistakenly detects the V gesture, it annoys you with a request if you want to re-enable it.

You can’t, every new car that I review has them. It’s an EU regulation.
