This dude is an inspiration to all sax players.
Definitely not all but I appreciate the kind words🙏🏻

Not just sax players but people who like to play live
Your “play the melody first to get ready” is incredible for any instrument. Obviously it’s great for improv, but I’m realizing it’s just as great when you’re writing a solo for an original song. Jump up 2 octaves and see how the melody feels, and then find something that feels like you’re adding to the conversation. I’m gonna add this to my guitar tool box. Thank you
Thank you so much!!🙌🏻🙏🏻
Hell yeah, I've never even picked up an instrument before and I'm still getting hyped for yall!
It being for all instruments is for sure a truth. Even as a drummer, the first thing I'm doing is playing the backbeat louder before we roll into anything crazy. This was pristine.
It also fits with the lyrics of "Get Lucky" lol
@@pingspoof_bot4813hell ya
Lovely to see a master doing his craft 🤘
Thanks for the kind words🙏🏻
I used to play flute in a very mediocre band but that one time my bandleader gave me a sign to play a solo, I completely panicked and reflexively did this and the whole crowd (like 50 people in a pub lol) started cheering still lives in my head as one of the best moments of my life.
Wow, you did that in a pub, with a FLUTE! Yea, I'm impressed.
The look of shock never changes, whether it’s day one of playing your instrument or year 20.🤣 Either way, you look around like “here goes nothing” and then you sound like a literal saxophone king.
LOL hopefully I’ll play enough gigs to eventually stop looking surprised 😂🙏🏻
@@FoolishFrankie Lol! Don’t look so surprised! They’re clearly asking you to solo because you sound AMAZING!
@@FoolishFrankiei have been playing 18 years guitar and still i get like adrenalin rush or how you call it but that feeling when you start solo
@@FoolishFrankie Nah, that feeling you get is the adrenaline from doing something you love and wanting to do the best you can do. Never lose that feeling
This is so true. Miss this. I gotta start playing with jazz again 😂
Dude that is exactly how I teach it! Start with a recognisable part of the melody, get comfortable in the key, branch out and bring it home. You nailed it, man. Awesome!
It’s an under-taught method I think! Thanks so much 🙏🏻
And if you can't figure out how to bring it home, don't forget the words of Donald Fagan: "Sue me if I play too long, this brother is free, I'll be what I want to be"
Greenday guitar solos lmao (insanely simple but works really well and insanely catchy)
Yeah, that's the way everyone does it. That's literally what improvising is
@@justsayin._. you'd think but there's a lotta people out there just winging it
If a groovy saxophone solo like this doesn’t make you move I don’t know what will.
Man , you are amazing. Listened it like 50 times already and cannot get bored of it. AMAZING. From now on I will expect this solo every time i will listen to the song. You made a good song even better. Congrats.
Much love 🙏🏻
That transition from you ending to the vocalists singing again was smooth

Totally fitting as a Daft Punk solo!!

for some reason his solo reminded me of give life back to music

As a Daft Punk fan I can confirm this solo is worthy of the original song
That solo was fire idc what you think
LOL well thank you🙏🏻
No problem man
I think the reason hes so critical is cus it was, (for him specifically) a rather simple solo
No it wasn’t
@@Sip_Dhit he didn't really go into anything super interesting outside of the main melody and subtle variations on it, not a genius solo but definitely really impressive given the nature of the situation
Maybe there should normally be a sax solo
😂😂
I'm sorry but no. Not on this song. Don't modify it 😂

Thank you! 😊
You're nuts, mate. I actually started learning how to play sax because I saw one of your gig videos
No way that’s awesome!!
3.3k likes and only 1 comment lemme change that rq
Man that guitar player is killing it 🔥
LoL now I can hear it too
Damn you’re right
I appreciate your videos so much. I played sax in high school and could never wrap my head around soloing. Most of the feedback I got was that you learn through experience and just have to try until you figure it out. That feedback never helped me, but watching your videos makes me love the idea of playing sax again and explains your process in a way that clicks in my brain. I know your videos are reaching and inspiring developing musicians and it makes me so happy thinking about how many people you are helping 💜
GREAT JOB!!
reminds me of a clarinetist I had in my band. HE WAS FRIGGIN AMAZING!!! And he still is!
His solo was amazing. He didn’t try to go crazy.
When playing live, you learn quick that going crazy on improvised solo's is really, really dangerous if you're not extremely well-trained.
He got lucky ;)
@@ThatGuyFromDetroitI see what you did there
That's one of the beautiful things about being a performer: In the moment, it's like your life depends on it. ❤
I’ve improved my soloing skills so much because of your videos. Plz never stop uploading 🙏
Saxophonists just appear out of nowhere and immediately make any song better.
I don't know what it is, but I just love solos that end on a low note, so seamlessly, that when you listen to it for the first time, you need a second to realize where the solo ended and the chorus began, and that's exactly what happened here.
Agree. Like spray painting painting a car, you have to feather the edges so the new paint and existing paint merge seamlessly.
Was a good solo!
Funky, and all the right notes!
Thanks for the kind words🙏🏻
Not only is he an inspiration to Sax players, but to any musician
Much love 🙏🏻
Literally my nightmare. 😂 So impressive how professional musicians can do this like it’s nothing. 👏🏼
Loving this sax player for not going overboard. It's a beautiful solo, Sir 🎉

Pianist so bored
He’s in his happy place mentally 😂
legit looks like my old maths teacher
That’s how it be doing gigs
@@jingleballs9935robably true but I think at these kind of gigs people can forget you are entertainers and looking despondent can kill the vibe of some people in the crowd at a minimum he should have been nodding along to the melody or something

That's my favourite Pharrell Williams and Daft Punk song you've just bossed! Great improv - totally nailed it!
Thank you so much!
Pretty sure it's the only Pharrell Williams and daft punk song.
@@Slourcey I know that - but I meant Pharrell Williams specifically. I needed to acknowledge Daft Punk though, sorry for the confusion mate.
Well, achhtually, the also have "lose yourself to dance"

Musicians are a different breed. Its like magic to me. I have no idea how they do it off the cuff.😮
Excellent comment. All can take lessons and practice as much as they want, few become musicians.
Just like a mathematician does maths with their mathematical "instruments" off the cuff, so does a musician with their musical instrument. It's all about mastering their craft through practice
20 years of practice for just an okay improv. They practice more than half their life

This is literally how I play songs on the violin. I just improv the entire time because I CANNOT read sheet music. But I can play by ear which is soooo fun
I purposely don’t learn either… cause by ear is sooo fun
The solo sounded so good and he looked so cute 😭
I especially liked the final melody reference!
amazing improv
🙏🏻🙏🏻
I love you walking us through your thought process. Keep up the great work man!
Thank you so much!
Honestly for a spur of the moment solo this was pretty damn good!!
🙏🏻
That was JAMMIN DUDE!!!! I normally hate jazz but gooooolllllyyyyyyyyy I wanna hear the whole song AND more from you in the future!
Nice! That sounded like a very pleasant filler section to the piece, and the fact that it is improv made it even better!
Thank you so much 🙏🏻
Looks like you were only able catch a couple of breaths before going straight into the solo. Very impressive! Tell her no more pranks!
LOL honestly it keeps me on my toes🙈😂🙏🏻
That’s the best way I’ve ever heard it ! I could listen to you play for so long !
Thank you so much!!
That was so cool!!!! Nice to hear a beautiful sax, once In awhile
that solo was fire!!!!!

that look at the end omg. It says "I hope every one just moves past this moment". One of those times you just hold on for dear life and hope the ride ends smoothly.
Absolutely incredible😭😭
That was funky fun, I dig it!
Motivic development is so important, I've come to realise that arranging music and writing solos. Love your content man.
I LITERALLY LOVE YOUR MUSIC SO MUCH, I'M AN ALTO SAXOPHONE PLAYER AND I'M THINKING OF SWITCHING TO TENOR LATER ON BUT I LITERALLY AM OBSESSED WITH YOU AND YOUR MUSIC, KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!
Thank you so much!
@@FoolishFrankie Of course!! 😆
Do it. I made that change back when I played and I loved it.
Just note that it's Bb.
So where you'd play concert Bb scale starting on G fingering, for tenor, it's played like starting on C fingering from alto.
That's how I figured it out (from nobody telling me first 🤣)
You should be able to navigate from there.
Then you'll be able to play soprano with ease too (also Bb).
So cool to see how band plays together while also adding tastful creativity to the song at each show
I cannot get this out of my head ❤
That actually really helps when I apply that to my bass guitar for figuring out solos and new fills
YEW! Nailed it Frankie!!

amazing talent!!! really incredible what the human brain is capable of with enough motivation and dedication!!
U R AN ABSOLUTE LEGEND MY DUDE!!! KEEP IT UP!!!-))))

Thank you so much for these videos. Your explanation of your thought process is incredibly helpful as someone just starting out with jazz and improv. I have my first combo gig tomorrow, playing tenor on some standards with my buddies. I’ve never done improv in this big of a volume during one set before, so I’m nervous but super excited. Your tip about referring to the head/melody to help stay in form (which I’ve noticed you talk about a lot in your videos) has worked well in rehearsals, so we’ll see how this goes. Thanks again!
Ahh that’s awesome I’m glad it’s helpful!! I hope your gig goes well!!
That is amazing, it blew me away😮
I appreciate it🙏🏻
You are seriously so impressive, I love seeing your clips pop up. You bring the realism of art to a way most people can’t see it, like a sneak peak inside your mind and process. It’s really cool
These kind words mean more than you know but thank you🙏🏻
Wooh! Ya killed it!!

Love your honesty and realness. As a drummer, I'm always amazed when you all just rock a solo out of fucking nowhere!
Dude, I absolutely love how honest you are in your videos. You could have just said "soloing over this tune" or something, but you told how nervous you were and your thought process to do it. I love it!
Thank you so much! I’m slowly getting less nervous the more I do it but it can be terrifying 😅
Exactly the way I do it with the violin. It’s safe, always fits and gives you momentum for great solos.

Hey that was cool man :) I like the way you listen to your own play while playing at the same time. Master Yoda would say: "Hm. This young fellow - awesome - his ear must be... may the force stay with him." 👍♥️🎷
