  • Filmed during Fightcamp Skirmish 2024. I, Nick Thomas, of the Academy of Historical Fencing had just picked up this beefcake sword from Paul Binns. Jordan Mock of the Academy of Historical Fencing came to put it to the test in a fun sword and buckler bout.
    Specs of this thick type XIV or Cinquedea trainer -
    Weight - 1223g
    Blade length - 66cm
    PoB - 6cm
    Jordan is for the most part a follower of the earlier Medieval sword and buckler styles, whereas I (Nick) have a preference for the 16th century Bolognese methods, hence the interest in a Cinquedea.

    Nick, I have been a historical fencing instructor for ten years, residing in Murcia, Spain. Much of the blame for me doing this lies with your Rapier vs Longsword video.
    I like that you keep making videos and that you look good and fit. Take care of yourselves and best regards.

    Great stuff! I normally do sword and buckler with the VB type 14 and I love the width at the ricasso for winding in.

    This sword looks fantastic but the rolled tip kills it for me. Great bouts as per usual tho

      @AcademyofHistoricalFencing  25 дней назад +1

      It's a one off custom, so if you wanted the tip done differently you could have that, but I really appreciate the big rolled tip, perfect for us.

    Great bout! Btw: I don’t see you transition with the thumb, is it your style or you didn’t felt confort with it?

    • @AcademyofHistoricalFencing
      @AcademyofHistoricalFencing  25 дней назад +2

      I don't do it a huge amount no. During certain messer and similar actions yes, but considering the styles I prefer most it's not something that comes up often.

      Love it, exactly what I would want out of such a beast. A review will be coming soon.

    Cool demo but I found the ominous tribal drumming very off-putting. A link to the sword would have been neat. Looks like a cool sword.

      Ripley is well-known for them. As early as the 16th Century, bands of itinerant drummers would follow sailors along the Portsmouth Road for some distance. Now isolated pockets of them hide out in the woods with their drums. Bloody nuisance but you can't catch the buggers! 😉

      That's fair, we are always experimenting, and you can't please everyone, whichever way we go on music or not there are people that don't like it!
      I can't give you a link as it was a one off custom. The smith's name is in the narration and description though, Paul Binns.

      @@AcademyofHistoricalFencing Thank you for the reply. Of course you cannot please anyone and compared to a lot of other sound editing it wasn't that bad, just off, somehow, to me.
      Oh, I see ... a one-of-a-kind. Cool sword.
      Looks like you are having fun with it.
      Thanks for the reply. Cheers!
