Amy Heckerling takes us back to 90s Beverly Hills with this musical version of her beloved film Clueless, a modern spin on Jane Austen’s Emma. With her singular voice, she gives us a score that reimagines 90s hits into ingenious parodies and yearning monologues for her lovesick characters. Director Kristin Hanggi (Rock of Ages) and choreographer Kelly Devine (Come from Away) drive this fresh take on the story of Cher, a girl so psychotically optimistic she can’t see that her bungling attempts at playing Cupid disguise her own fashion-plated isolation.

Summer Lovegood honestly i feel like it’s just gonna be like mean girls. Very disappointed. Broadway is starting to cast well know actors just to pull in a bigger crowd.

@@sophiabethel5664 At least Mean Girls had original songs, a (heavily) adapted/changed script for another audience which incrudle changing when it's set and adding more the characters, melodies that are coherent with the characters and nods to one of them depending on the songs (idk how to say it) and most of the actors aren't that well-known outside Broadway fans (not counting Barrett because of her Heathers the Musical audience which is a totally different type and more like Dove's). So yeah, Mean Girls has credit and IS a good show (and their trailers weren't this kind of bad tbh)

The song “Beautiful Life” is actually an iconic song from the 90s by the group Ace Of Base, and they were from Sweden, thus the not so “great lyrics” I’m not really sure why the musical has the song but

I get wanting to include the iconic "ugh, as if" line, but god, especially as this clearly isn't a studio recording, the song choice is awful. The costumes look nice, so I'm still holding out hope but this doesn't look that good so far.

Angelica Hamillton sis um the most popular musicals amongst this generation are Heathers, BMC, Hamilton, and DEH. DEH is the only one that is an original story, they’re all fine shows but we need more original stories on bway.
@@Ok-ge1od Heathers has more of a cult following than it being popular. Hamilton is biographical but it's still an original musical just like Evita and The Greatest Showman but Heck if you aren't going to write one yourself than don't whine about it

Jessie Rathbun She auditioned. This isn’t tv this is a live musical. You don’t “pay someone” to come play a character you have to audition.
Erin Robinson well having her is great publicity I’m sure they didn’t pay her to audition but I’m sure they’re paying her a hell of a lot to be in the show probably much more than any other actor in the show

Jessie Rathbun I see that but I don’t think it’s as extreme as you think. I know she brings popularity but she’s brought more hate than good attention (though I don’t think she deserves it) and they could’ve just as easily gotten someone else to play Cher. I think she’s just decided to mature and start going back to theatre since that’s where she came from. I don’t think she’s getting much more money and I also don’t think it’s about the money for her or them. She could easily make more money on Disney but she didn’t.
I know the movie was iconic but we already have two awesome high school musicals called MEAN GIRLS AND HEATHERS.
Frankly- I love the costumes and set. This is really good, especially for off-broadway. I didn’t totally mind the “ugh, as if” delivery tbh, and I really like the sound of the pit. The song isn’t great, but I’m holding out hope for the cast album/a bootleg. I know it doesn’t sound great, but why judge a whole show on a poorly made trailer? There are plenty of people who are very passionate about this show and have worked very hard on it. I have hope for this cast.

I know mean there's bad musicals with good trailers and good musicals with bad trailers I have hope for the musical the music isn't that great or that bad but don't judge it before hearing/watching it just wait till the cast album comes out then give your opinion
The dancing looks good and stuff too. People are judging it mostly because of the trailer and the fact it’s a jukebox musical, but I really wish I could have seen this. I still have a little bit of hope that it’s good
Dove was a poor choice for this role. I don't care about her Disney background. I'm in an age bracket that was too old for whatever Disney show she was in but too young to have any kids/siblings who watched it, so I can't attest to her acting ability there, but this clip is r o u g h. I dont know if it is reflective of her acting talent in general or just that she is a poor fit for this part in particular, but I sure hope it's better than what you see in these clips. Plus that song choice - ouch.
I was in the age demographic and lemme tell you, she can sing for movies but for unedited stuff? Nah

I want shows to do well. In order for that to happen the marketing and promotion department need to do their jobs and put out material that highlights the good things, not the bad.
Also, you are undoubtedly spending tons of money on Dove Cameron and you can’t show a single solo singing moment? Terrible call.

@@camille9800 he didnt leave bmc, he did the entire run (at least as far as I know) when it was in New Jersey, but when the show was on off-Broadway they casted Will Roland instead of him....

I WANT TO SEE THIS SHOW SO BAD! "As if" clueless the musical could be a flop! I cannot get this song stuck out of my head, some people think that this clip looks bad and makes them not excited for the show, I think that this clip makes it look like a legit piece of theatre. I wish with all my heart that The New Group NYC would release a cast album with all the covers of the 90s music, along with a professionally recorded tape of the show so that all the people dying to see the show, like me, would have a chance to experience clueless the musical. Eek! I'm totally bugging'!

There's a lot of issues with this show but I think their biggest mistake was to go jukebox musical on a well known story. You can't mix the two. Either take pre-existing songs and create a story with them or take a pre-existing story and write songs which fit. Trying to cram songs we know into a plot the audience most likely loves was never going to end well. Clueless really could have been a great stage adaption but that early decision never gave it a chance. If the content it self is bad not even the best cast could sell it.
Honestly if they didn’t make this a jukebox musical and actually had original songs it could’ve had potential and also I probably would’ve liked it but I’m not a sucker for jukebox shows.
Considering reading the comments and looking at this preview alone, I am that toxic enough to say that dove is the only person that could keep me interested and I oop
