I was at this show! It was such a wonderful surprise to see them pull this one out and dust it off at the end!

I wish Nick would do more stuff like this. He's got a huge catalog of great, fun, crazy stuff...pull it out once in a while! I remember a show back in the 90s when he did 36 Inches High live...the crowd went nuts!

This is a great tune, no question about that. But for those who failed to catch the drift, its actually a DISS towards the Bay City Rollers. Nick Lowe has such a way with lyrics and words that it would take a keen mind to uncover the real messages and meanings of his songs. I bet you guys thought he was singing praises about the group, didn't you.

I think everyone gets that. All Nick Lowe fan know he's sardonic.

He did it cynically to give the record company something that would sell, sure, but the song works fine as a tribute to the then red-hot teen band. There's no dis against the "boys", unless you read a bit too much into "when everyone's distracted at the Rollers show tonight". Especially in its original form, it's a super-catchy and sincere song for the fans, and I always thought that - if anything - the song is subversive in its pure catchiness: that is, good bubblegum music in and of itself is a joy. The first review I ever read of Joey Ramone, he was singing the Rollers' praises. Of course they knew it would rankle the old fogies!

Thanks! I'm really glad somebody recorded this! I've seen a lot of Nick Lowe shows but never heard him play it. One thing - I don't know if it's just a problem with my computer, but the video is currently upside down. Anyway, thanks again.

I think you may be thinking of "Bay City Rollers We Love You". Another Rollers "tribute" by Nick.
