Just another fun tidbit about the Germans obsession with giving their grunts meth. They not only had it in the wonderful smarty form but they also had this stuff called Panzershokolade which was the same meth but in chocolate bars.

Awesome to see Kit react to Count Dankula! The Count's got plenty of other interesting Mad Lad videos, and one that I think Kit might enjoy would be "Absolute Mad Lads - The Battle of Athens". It really answers the question of "what happens when you piss off a bunch of already pissed off war vets?".

Interestingly enough, there was recently a case in Finland where bunch of air force emergency rations were stolen, which included some strong painkillers and stimulants. Basically this stuff would be issued to pilots during war time in case they were shot down and had to survive in the wilderness for an extended period of time. Probably not as strong as Pervitin but strong enough for someone to steal them

I like to think the fact that it was -10 F, and he took this one large frozen nugget was what save him. Unlike a single fast disolving dose, he took a frozen concentrated chunk, while opperating in a climate where all his blood vessels were already squeezed down to minimum.
AS such, he had just discovered the first energizer battery, as the slowly released dose provided him with nearly a week of... well... high. We do not know how fast he was going, however he outran skiers who after the war would go on to win Olympic records in long distance skiing.

Hitler took meth and morphine due to his wounds from ww1 caused by a mustard gas attack, and an assassination attempt on him by some of his own generals, there's a movie about it called Valkyrie.
Its one reason its believed Hitler became more impatient and unrealistic because of the constant pain he lived with.

10:46 Some Allied flight rations and emergency rations do have some questionable stimulants in them that have come up in Steve's videos. It was quite common for bomber crews to be issued whatever was needed for them to stay alert and awake for long missions, and it made sense at the time for them to be used in survival situations where food is limited.

thank you for doing my request, most requests I do arent actually for reactions (although i do appreciate and enjoy when i get one) i just like recommending good bits of history.
But if you run low on requests I do recommend count dankula's video on a man named charles hazlitt upham, he is one of only three men in history to be awarded two victoria crosses.
It's fun, it's interesting, its historic, and again, I dont mind you watching it on your own if you like.

The fat electrician has another version of this story. In that story another factor why Aimo took all the meth is because he had been storing it next to his skin so it wouldn’t freeze but it did anyway then melted then froze again till it was all 1 big pill…
Also what the also didn’t tell you is that Aimo eventually lead his team out of danger after taking the Meth. However, when they regroup his group realised he was tweaking hard so they basically took all his ammunition and other important stuff so he wouldn’t lose it and open fire on his comrades. This is why Aimo didn’t have ammunition when he could take stock 62miles after taking the meth.
Also, in regards to the cabin, it was unlocked as you do in that part of the world, because well it’s subzero temperatures and well if it wasn’t like that, you would freeze to death. Aimo set the fire in the wrong place instead of the fireplace in the centre of the cabin. Is there any wonder he woke up with the cabin on fire?…because well meth…

The winning story was a fairly conventional one, "Keskellä Valkeasaaren tulihelvettiä" or "Within the fire hell of White Island". Red Army launched its grand offensive on Finnish defensive lines on Karelian Isthmus in June '44, and the author had the misfortune of being right at the front. His guys got the absolute crap bombed out of them, after which the real fun of being shelled by the full fury of Soviet artillery started. They managed to repel the first attacks, but casualties began to mount and the enemy pushed in small salients elsewhere. The author got a nasty gash in his leg from shrapnel, and went to a log bunker some way in the rear to get it dressed and look for a NCO that had gone missing.
The bunker then promptly received a direct hit from something heavy and collapsed down on them. He spent maybe 90 minutes badly injured and buried alive, but still getting some air. His comrades came to see if there are any survivors and managed to dig him out. Couple of guys began escorting him further to rear, with him hopping slowly on one leg, but in the artillery barrages and general chaos he got separated from them. He then dragged his broken body forwards a couple of kilometers, still carrying his rifle, as he preferred blowing his brains out over getting captured. He crossed a small river over a tree trunk that had fallen over it, and kept on crawling until he found a road and managed to flag down a car. He was taken to a field hospital packed to the gills with sheet-covered bodies and wailing wounded. From there he got eventually evacuated to a proper hospital, and the story ends there.

@@theonlylauri how in the heck is that more impressive or 'crazy' than Aimo's? ^^' Well, tragic, yes. Heroic, absolutely yes. But as crazy? That sounds all kinds of sane in comparison, all kinds of practical and clinging to rationality?

    • @theonlylauri
      @theonlylauri 9 месяцев назад +1

@@TheObscureRambler I suspect it won precisely because it's not as crazy. The competition was in '78, a quite conservative time in many ways. Personally I prefer Aimo's tale on account of it being so unique, but drug-fueled insanity was probably always going to have a hard time winning over something fairly conventional.

They have very different deliveries and senses of humor, I like Mad Lads stuff for the morbid humor, pop culture deep cuts and the more chill delivery/wider variety of individuals and events covered... Love TFE, but sometimes it sounds like he's tripping over his words and misspeaking by talking so quickly, Dankula is ironically more articulate imo. TFE is great for the military stuff and the inside jokes and entertaining wordplay, Dankula dives in depth and really focuses on details and more of the actual history

BUT, compare the two vids, can you really say Dankula didn't go further in depth on the subject, even if you find TFE's more enjoyable or are predisposed just because you're both vets?
Also, I watch literally all his content too, hence my perspective... I watch them both and can objectively review them. His longer videos are all still just as rapid fire, it's just the way TFE does his thing.
