In October 1943 the Japanese massacred the 98 remaining construction workers on the island. One of the men managed to escape for a few days and carved a message on a rock, informing the world of what had happened. The officers who ordered this massacre were tried, found guilty of war crimes, and executed after the war. The Wake Island Massacre Memorial still stands on this remote outpost.
All my youth I wanted to be a Marine. Unfortunately, I had an accident that made me unfit for any military duty. I salute all Marines and sailors! Thank you for your service! ✝️🙏🏻♥️
Any of you that go to the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum the F4F Wildcat on display has the engine coweling and propeler from one of the F4F's that DEFENDED Wake. It was obtained from the Memorial that was on Wake for the Pilots from this fight, to restore the Wildcat on display and to preserve those pieces for the future.
TFE (real name is Nic) is actually good friends with Brandon Herrera, one of your other favorites to watch Watch the REST of TFE videos, they’re all historically informative, comedic fucking GOLD
When you hear the story About the Battle for wake Island It's one of the most awesome stories of world war two because It just shows what our military is capable of
I have a original soviet uniform my parents got on a missions trip to Latvia, I would never think of getting rid of it, it's freaking awesome, and I wish I had some rugs from Stalin to go with it
SORRY but he's got some of his details wrong USN Commander Winfield Scott Cunningham was in charge of Wake Island and it was him the gave the order to Major James Devereux to hold fire until the ships were closer AS many of the guns on the island lacked gunsights, spare parts and fire-control radar wich he had requested before the attack. it was Cunningham who gave the order for surrender. the 1942 movie cut him out and used the movie to push the story that Maj. Devereux was in charge , Cunningham survived as a POW , Many were sent to Japan to POW camps but 5 wake island defenders were beheaded on ship, those POWs who were left on the Island were later lined up on the beach and executed before the war ended . A good book about this battle is "Wake Island Command" (1961)
2:30 Idk if any of you have played strategy games like command and concur or star craft but this is essentially both players rushing to the middle of the map at the very beginning and trying to make a base there ASAP only to then see the enemy is doing the exact same thing. America got there first scouted it out said looks all clear build fast dropped them off and left and then got hit by pearl harbor and all the sudden the Japanese are decending on the marines at wake Island.
My comment on the original video was if you mention fixing bayonets to five inch guns, I 100%, iron clad guaranteed Marines would say, "Wait, we can do that?" Thanks for proving me right. I suggest The Fat Electrician's video on the USS O'Bannon.
As a child my dad got orders to be station on Kadena AFB. he went first then my mom myself and two of my little sisters followed, we landed on Wake Island for refueling.
20:09 is exactly what I came here for and I'm not let down by your reaction! Semper Fi tomorrow, dudeski! Wish I could come be your chaperone tomorrow night lmao
I would like to add we Americans don't like failure that's when the creative juices mixes with The bravery of all Americans Hua Much love to my oldest sister branch Tim the army veteran
Speaking of costing money for service tattoos, would be cool if a coalition of artist organised online to offer discounted chair time. Could use it to help promote their studios and portfolios, and could mean so much to veterans who can't afford it. If you have meaningful tattoos from the past that have been retouched, you know how much it can mean. Donations from the online posts could be sent to charity services for veterans.
"Who took up their as$es on Wake Island, on Wake Island, on Wake Island? Who took it up their as$es while the navy washed their glasses??? The United States Marines!"
Actually, a relief force was oscar mike to Wake when the Japanese launched their 2nd attack. Only after learning of the island under attack did the Navy turn back. The 5' in./51 cal. guns utilized were actually from the second USS Texas that is still preserved. Anything from the original Texas would of been obsolete.
OHRAH ! Was a Grunt in 70's and yes we had Marines that that were told ... " you can go to jail or ... there's a Marine Recruiter standing over there"... good Marines, but all that I knew said that they wish they had picked Jail ...😜🌏♠
It’s the same in the army the enlisted lead the way as well especially us infantry we aren’t far off from marines when no one is around to give orders we default aggressive and fuck shit up 😂
@AmericansLearn I'm more into carpets then I am rugs but that's just my opinion. HA HA lol naming the dog Courage as in Courage the Cowardly Dog. "Stupid dog, you make me look bad"
They love you so much they give you ibuprofen and water for everything. Just kidding was on jobs with a few prior-service Docs anytime someone got hurt they were right there. Even out of service never mess with a Doc!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah that loser Major is the biggest piece of shot to ever exist. Sad he made it through the cracks. I still refuse to say his name. I know a ton of my buddies feel the same, and don’t say his name either. He is by far the biggest disgrace of The Corps, the only good thing he ever did was the initial plan to hold fire and let them get elk into their kill zone. Meaning they’d be in it longer, as they tried to get away/ensure total surprise. One of the actual Marines, doing the fighting shoulda fragged his ass, as soon surrender escaped his stupid and coward lips. Then, kept fighting. And just say the Japanese killed him as he checking on his men, issuing orders after comms were taken down.

Yes. As well as dropping mines in the afternoon on known jap shipping lanes, waiting for them to blow up either in the evening or the next morning

Semper fi brother...63 year old former marine from south carolina...
Marines might be slow and slightly autistic, but they will always find a way to kill something and that's why I love them. - Former Ssgt, USAF

Too bad the Marines couldn't take out the amphibs first . No amphibs= no landings.
There is nothing a marine cannot accomplish if you feed them their favorite colored crayons.
