- An inside view of the Indian Railways WDM2A Locomotive (WDM2A 17956), Loco Pilot operating the loco which led the 55613 Dekargaon (Tezpur) - Naharlagun Passenger Train through the newly Gauge converted section of Rangapara North - Harmutty section, Naharlagun is newly constructed 18 kilometer line from Harmutty Junction.

Indian Railways locomotive class WDM-2
------------------------------------------------------------
The class WDM-2 is Indian Railways' workhorse diesel locomotive. The first units were imported fully built from the American Locomotive Company (Alco) in 1962. Since 1964, it has been manufactured in India by the Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW), Varanasi. The model name stands for broad gauge (W), diesel (D), mixed traffic (M) engine. The WDM-2 is the most common diesel locomotive of Indian Railways.
The WDM-2A is a variant of the original WDM-2. These units have been retro-fitted with air brakes, in addition to the original vacuum brakes. The WDM-2B is a more recent locomotive, built with air brakes as original equipment. The WDM-2 locos have a maximum speed of 120 km/h (75 mph),[1] restricted to 100 km/h (62 mph) when run long hood forward - the gear ratio is 65:18.

It never ceases to amaze me how much alike we all are in Railwaymen circles. We all have similar ways of driving and the equipment is relatively universal the world over. I even see the poor driver has had his windscreen smashed (by someone throwing rocks most likely) If the world wasn't in the mess it's in, I would've loved to have seen Steam in India and South Africa. I actually probably would've gone to try work steam in South Africa if I had known I could've back when I had finished school. Keep up the good work guys! Happy New Year 2022
@@saikiranoruganti yeah had it happen to me many times here in Australia too. They even started tying bricks on ropes and throwing them off the side of over passes. One train end up with the windscreen caved in. The driver was lucky to not have been killed, the speed was 140km/h on that line.

It's really nice to see this video about how Indian LP's operate this older loco. I was New Zealand Railways trained On English Electric, EMD, and GE locos, but the basics are still the same except for the brake valves.
