My wife had 2020 120d and has 2024 128ti the lack of I Drive wheel and the physical climate controls are an absolute disaster..seriously dangerous, you can’t use a mobile but somehow it ok to take your eyes of the road to use touchscreen for heating..it’s absolutely ridiculous
I’ve got the M sport 1.5 and it’s quick enough but frugal getting 46 mpg. The car is great to drive and feels solid and well built. I’ve fo7nd the ride better than expected and the auto is superb and worth the extra.
Depends what you mean by “humble”…! We have a 118i in Storm Bay metallic. It has just about every option available on the 128ti, plus full leather interior. The only difference is obviously the 1.5 petrol engine instead of the 2.0 petrol, apart from that our 118i cost the same as a 128ti when new, but cheaper to insure & cheaper on fuel! So be a little careful when using words like “humble” as there are plenty of optional extras available on these models if you want to pay for them👍
I'm a big fan of the 1 series, and compact hatchbacks in general. Add to that the fact that I'm a diesel fanatic and also love wagons/estate cars, and it makes for an awkward pairing for a North American. Because if there are any cars they won't sell on this continent, they are diesels, hatchbacks, and wagons, or any combination of those things. I'm so jealous of the cars, engines, and body styles available in Europe, but not here. I guess I just have a "European" taste in cars. I'm glad to see they have not facelifted the 1 series interior, and that it still has physical buttons and separate screens. Unlike the 3 series and other BMW models, which have become too digital.

Uh hum... maybe i give my [unwanted] opinions instead: Appreciate this review on this out-going model some very good points for a short review. Indeed the F40 1er is well built and feels premium. The buttons on the transmission tunnel feel the worse - hard, bland poor response but the rotary wheel great feel, actually looking at that manual gearbox there those buttons look better place than the auto versions. Many lament the 128ti not having a manual gearshift option especially seeing as the 8pd auto isn't so nice. Very disappointed that the 4-cyl engined 120i version was not available in the UK (only Europe conitinent) as that would've been my choice, though the 42-50litre fuel tanks are only adequate (the 50 litre is optional extra or standard on 128ti & m135i). Diesels are an option. Suspension _is_ as mentioned so on the daily it could be annoying for some but it's not just the 1-series with this issue, i have found it on all UKL-platform bmw, or it fact most modern bmw no matter the tyres - however on smoother Euro Continent roads it's excellent so really BMW just aren't best suited for our battered UK roads. The seats are well shaped, however being a person of taller stature hard to get good position as left foot-rest feels too high making me have seat further back thus stretch too far for seating wheel, and normal sports seats could do with a bit more padding on base. This 1er is not an awful car as modern cars go but does feel like a bit a of _soul_ or character is missing, i actually had more heart for the F45 Active Tourer on which the F40 is based-on, it had the older iDrive 6 but a bigger boot, much more cabin space esp. in rear, higher seating position (the reason why many buy SUVs) but yet still about the same size on the road and could be had with the ~184hp 4-cyl engine and 60-litre fuel tank - it just doesn't have the same street-cred as the 1er & still has the same suspension concerns though higher off the ground but not as high as the X1/X2.

It is the M series and when I speak to BMW they say that all the M series do this as it is a sports car. My wife had to hold on to the roof handle with one hand and the other on the dashboard which gave her many issues with her neck. I checked many videos on this subject and all the drivers say the same thing. Totally impossible to pull away smoothly.

In her past reviews she would always bring a banana to every car review and would place that banana in every cubby and storage in the car. It is an inside joke that lived on to this day. Also, your statement has no correlation with what I have mentioned in my comment.

I'd have a Golf anyday.. the BMW range is just totally non descript. It just says "Boring Boring Boring" there is no flair, there is nothing to make this stand out from the crowd. Sorry BMW but give me a 3 series from the eighties.
I think this is a much more interesting choice than a Golf, personally. Interior is higher quality too. I do like both but I'd have this because Golfs are everywhere

Why did she say MPG (miles per gallong) not KMPL (kilometers per liter)? I thought the UK uses the metric system.
