Nah its a massive step down from his first two projects. Trades the originality for more sloppy and generally traditional psychedelic sounds, while being wayyyy too long. You could shave that album in half and it’d be A LOT better for it. Unfortunately this was peak Rocky, and Rocky as an artist is just always going to be pretty 1-dimensional lyrically. Fairly shallow near all the time, and Bob just doesnt jam with that kind of writing style. I think he should focus on moving onto other artists because Rocky just want ever be that impressive to him.
I hope you’re not dissuaded to continue Rocky’s albums. The next album has much better lyrics and he also becomes a stronger artist generally. testing is also really really amazing the production is fantastic
I really do think that ALLA will be the Rocky album that clicks for you. It’s a lot different from the other two albums you’ve checked out from him both sonically and lyrically, while still maintaining the qualities that make Rocky unique. His vocals are more diverse, his lyrics are more meaningful, and the instrumentals are arguably better than Long Live or even Live Love. Still has some filler in it, but cut the fat and there’s a sold 12 tracks that are amazing in my opinion. It’s my favourite Rocky album, and a 9/10 in my opinion. As someone who wasn’t a huge fan of Long Live or Live Love initially, At Long Last was the album that made me like A$AP Rocky.
ALLA is still very underrated, I will always remember the words from El-P about this project "I don’t think people gave this record the love that they should have. It’s fucked up and weird at times, but it just knocked. Like “M’$”-come on man, that’s one of the hardest records of the last 10 years! He really was saying some shit on this record. Sometimes people just miss an artist’s progression because they have a definite idea of who that person is. Sometimes your timing is off, and by the time you want a progression from someone, you’ve ignored the fact that that actually already happened. That record was a progression for Rocky, but I don’t think people heard it that way. I really felt it was an opus. But this happens a lot. How many classic records also have a classically bad review? On the one hand, it’s terrifying for an artist to put their shit out there for critical review, because you don’t want to be misunderstood, and it plays such a big part in the way people receive records. But on the other hand, seeing how this shit plays out over time, you can relax a little bit, because it doesn’t always all line up in the moment. I like the idea that people can reevaluate shit because I don’t think that records or films are 100 percent across the board meant to be digested in one sitting. They have to grow on you. If we were all quizzed about the records that we didn’t like at first but ultimately ended up liking, there would be a lot of surprising things mentioned."
Im curious how an album could be a 9/10 if you say it has filler and needs 6 tracks cut out of it to be a cohesive and smooth listen front to back lol thats why I dont think that album is that great BECAUSE its so inconsistent and sloppy. Some of his better stuff is on there sure, but its not a very good listening experience front to back
@@royalwarlord2342 I’m glad you pointed that out! So this album is weird for me, it’s one of the only albums that I listen to without every track. I cut out a lot of the songs that I would skip anyways, to make the experience feel more full. So my perception of the album is slightly skewed, and while I do agree it’s inconsistent, I don’t think it’s as inconsistent as most people say it is. The worst of the worst on the album is not bad by any means, but the best of the best is so good, it makes the lesser songs feel way worse than they are. As an overall experience it may be underwhelming, and I understand while some may write it off because of that, but altering it slightly to cut the fat makes it a near perfect album, without getting rid of so many songs you might as well just put em in a playlist. That’s what I think separates it from other inconsistent trap albums, and what ultimately makes it one of my most played albums so far this year.
Bob, I am beggggging, please listen to at long last asap, this is one of my favourite albums of all time, you will absolutely love the esoteric nature of his experimentation. This album helped me accept who I am as crazy as it sounds, it made me see and find my creativity which I found hard to share and fully embrace due to past judgment growing up. Also the back story behind the album (making a lot of songs on LSD, and a,so finding a homeless guy with an amazing voice in London where I’m from, and putting him on many of the songs as the sole vocalist), makes this such an amazing album. Please do listen very soon!!
all these reasons for why you're on the fence about this album is why I always recommend At Long Last Asap over this one. ALLA is my personal favorite and I think youll enjoy everything that album does and has to offer a lot more than this, plus imo its aged much better.
It looks like you would like At long last ASAP more tbh , it’s more lyrical even if there are “gangster” lyrics, Testing is his more experimental album and it would be a very interesting reaction since it is his most wild album.
Hey bob i know you probably wont see this but you should check out ABN - it is what it is. its z-ro and trae tha truth both from houston. The albums a bit longer but i think you would enjoy the style and beats on the album. Maybe not the lyrics so much but it’s an album i think doesnt get talked about enough. One of my favorites! Much love bob ❤
the problem your talking about is fair to be upset about. but it comes from the people who misrepresent it, not the music or the people who make it or enjoy it. as someone who grew up listening to rap, yes I want the people who misunderstand it to hear intellectual conscious rap, or unique production but the people who push it away will never find it. sometimes it feels good to ingnore all of that and hear a song about the things everybody wants like women or money. you just cant let yourself stay in your own perception for me an album like this is made to break the barrier that exists.
Watching you talk about this a little at the start of your Cheat Codes reaction video, I can't lie... I was kind of 'proud' of you and how far you've come. There was a similar breakthrough when it all clicked for you (might have been 36 Chambers but I can't recall) but that moment reminded me of this latest 'growth'. You've experimented with so many different sub genres its only natural you've started to come to your own preferences. There will always be exceptions to the rules but let this journey take you where ever it leads and don't try to 'force' yourself to enjoy things just to appease some of us. (1 Train is GOATED tho)
based on what you said about not wanting an entire album to just be one kind of sound you'd really like at long last asap the album has a lot of variety in sounds and lyrical content, even the first and second track switch up pretty drastically
At Long Last ASAP (ALLA) changes a quite a bit lyrically and sonically. It's still ASAP Rocky, but there's more content to dig into, and the production has a lot of brit/pop influence. It was a fairly big departure from what he had done previously. I know you're not doing a lot of gangsta rap these days, and I support going down a more lyrical path if that's what you're into right now, but I would like to see a Clipse (Hell Hath No Fury) reaction before the new album. It's a drug rap album, but they are extremely talented with wordplay, and the production was boundary breaking for the time. The Clipse reunion is probably the most anticipated release before the end of the year. Clipse is Pusha T and Malice. The latter left the group and became a Christian rapper named "No Malice". He left because he felt their lyrics contributed to negativity in the world. That's a really interesting story, and we're all wondering what he's gonna say on the new album after more than a decade. So if anything listening to Hell Hath No Fury will give some context to that story before the new album. So I hope you listen to Hell Hath No Fury sometime this month if you can.
Hey Bob, this is your kind reminder to continue your Run The Jewels journey. RTJ4 (from 2020) is in my opinion their best project (maybe in close competition with Run The Jewels 2). I think you would get a kick out of it. Cheers!
I can't stress enough how his next two albums are multitudes better than his previous 2. You have to remember that he was young, cocky and at a time in rap where sounding tough or saying shock value lyrics were the thing. I mean you had Odd Future who were big at this same time, and Tyler was saying lyrics that would make ASAP blush. lol So its all relative, and not to be taken too seriously. Just teenagers/young adults acting like they do. Those albums were things I listened to a lot when they first came out, but now in my 30's I only listen to his newer stuff. I can still rock with his old stuff because I have memories with them, but its nothing I currently relate to. TESTING is my personal favorite album of his, but the overall consensus is that At Long Last ASAP is his overall best. And I am not mad at those who think that. It is probably his most consistent album and commercially successful. But always try to keep in mind when you go back to listen to a new artist and its their first album or two, that most artists evolve or mature in their music. So try not to attach any permanent labels on them strickly based on their earliest stuff. I honestly think you will enjoy his other albums vastly more, and its albums I can still put on today and fully enjoy. But I also grew up in the late 90's and early 2000's, so I grew up through gangsta rap and the swag rap era. Hip hop is still relatively young, and its been fun sort of growing older with hip hop and seeing how artists make rap music in their older ages. Because for a vast majority of hip hops life its been a young persons game. The lyrics will reflect that. But its been changing, to where there are more and more artists around my age making quality, thought provoking, more mature and overall more relatable music. And I think there are going to be certain artists that you wont really like their early stuff, but will enjoy their later stuff. ASAP Rocky is one of those artists, I believe. But anyways, enjoyed the additional thoughts and nuanced insight. I hope you and anyone who happens to read this has a wonderful, safe and positive week!
Well if all artists tried to be holier than thou mature geniuses then the music world would be boring. There's unspeakable value in young people creating music that does not conform to norms of what's considered good.
I respect your take Bob: I understand that if you don't want to continue listening to A$AP but At long last A$AP is SUCH a more lyrically complex album touching on a lot subject which I think you'd find interesting, best wishes!
hi bob, I'm really looking forward to you exploring the underground more, and to start I think the best place to start would be Vaudeville Villain by MF DOOMs alter ego Viktor Vaughn. It has his best and most hard hitting rapping and by far his most experimental beats. I think you would love it :)
PLEASE react to an Aesop Rock album! It would be funny after this reaction. I would recommend The Impossible Kid or his newest Integrated Tech Solutions.
Bob you gotta check out JOECHILLWORLD by Devon Hendryx (Jpegmafia) it’s super cool seeing how he evolved but it’s also a surprisingly palletable album. It’s also interesting listening to Peggy rap in a more straightforward way. It’s my personal favorite under that alias, he even raps over a joanna newsom beat lool
I just re-listened to At long last ASAP and I have to say it is amazing, rocky's evolution is incredible, and I think you would enjoy I quite a bit. Please don't write off the rest of his catalog because it has some real gems.

Personally Long.Live.A$AP is my least favorite album from him. Live.Love.Asap (his debut) is my favorite. I hope you’ll still listen to the third album in the trilogy At.Long.Last.A$AP. The production is great as always and it’s probably his most lyrically dense album. He’s always gonna rap about his fashion and style because that’s just who he is and that is a big part of his popularity. Testing is a bit more controversial among his fans because you either love it or hate it but I personally liked it. It has the most variety of sounds.
Hi Bob! Can you please react to Death Race For Love by Juice WRLD? I know you weren’t too much of a fan of his first album, but this one is much more mature and full of interesting lyrics related to love, addiction and more. Cheers!❤
I get why you are not the biggest fan of the lyrics on this type of album and for me these trap albums are albums I can play whenever and always have a blast. For example to TPAB is technically one of the greatest albums of all time. But I only play it like once a year. While DS2 I play tracks off that almost everyday and enjoy the hell out of them. So personally I feel like trap is such a fun genre of hip hop cause tbh sometimes I don’t want to have to always have lyrics open and instead just hear future rap about his expensive lifestyle for an hour over fun catchy production with great sticky hooks.
Don’t see how you can listen to triple red or 21 savage then ocmplain about Rocky’s lyrics! Rocky is a way better overall rapper and artist than those guys who are mumble rappers. If you want some s Tier lyricism from Rocky then AT.LONG.LAST.A$AP is a must
Bob was absolutely OK with the Carti, Chief Keef and many other rappers lyrics because he was exploring and enjoying the new sound But Rocky is the one who disappointed him I just don’t get it 😂
Bob I hope you see this but when you do listen to X by Ken Carson you will not be disappointed with this album if you haven't listened to it yet! This album is one of his best behind A Great Chaos. One more request is Project X even though there's 11 songs it's still amazing. Thanks Bob for the amazing reactions and your taste in music is great keep going with the videos!
I'm not too big of a fan of the first trilogy. I think Testing is his BEST work. Got some crazy beats, good features and the best music videos of the genre. I'd skip the third joint and go into Testing. If you wanna put it like this it's his "Yeezus"
@@R1K1K1K1 he's clearly not loving the current Rocky, based on his previous likes I can say we're pretty even on our tastes, that's why I watch him. The word you're looking for is experimental, that tour kicked ass. I reccomend you go back to it with an open mind.
At long last asap is definitely worth checking out next his evolution is immediately present in that album its a MUST
this. by far his best piece of work.
He will enjoy this album a lot more I think
Praying for a at long last asap reaction 🙏

At.Long.Last.A$AP is definitely his best in my opinion, I think you’d be a fan of the production and there’s more lyrics to dive into

Don’t see how you can listen to triple red or 21 savage then ocmplain about Rocky’s lyrics! Rocky is a way better overall rapper and artist than those guys who are mumble rappers. If you want some s Tier lyricism from Rocky then AT.LONG.LAST.A$AP is a must
React to Luv is rage 2
Day 4 of asking for an elliott smith reaction (greatest song writer of all time)

REACT TO BIRDS IN THE TRAP!!! By Travis Scott pls
Norman fucking rockwell by Lana
carter 5 reaction!
Bob was absolutely OK with the Carti, Chief Keef and many other rappers lyrics because he was exploring and enjoying the new sound
But Rocky is the one who disappointed him
I just don’t get it 😂
Go listen to: C Bo, MC Ren, MC Eiht, and other legendary ''gangster rappers'", you will like the genre again 😃
Bob please react to sematary i am begging you my god
React to Donda please!!!!
Please continue with Kanye soon🙏🙏🙏
We need Donda
Bob I hope you see this but when you do listen to X by Ken Carson you will not be disappointed with this album if you haven't listened to it yet! This album is one of his best behind A Great Chaos. One more request is Project X even though there's 11 songs it's still amazing. Thanks Bob for the amazing reactions and your taste in music is great keep going with the videos!
Can you react to Queen by Nicki Minaj?
Donda
Can you react to Queen by Nicki Minaj sir
I didn't like your review
This a better album than the other trap albums
Less ASAP more Aesop Rock.
Time to circle back to pierre bourne bobbo
I think u just have to get out of that old head mentality
Project hasn’t aged well lol. All of his other stuff is leagues above
Can we just recommend lyrical albums to Bob? At this point he’s done enough branching out to the hazy atmospheric non lyrical stuff.
What would you recommend just curious?
@@loutzzzzstakes is high de la soul

Lol bob asap rocky is not a gangsta rapper. His more of a fly guy rapper cool guy
Tired of A$AP Rocky? Try some Aesop Rock
I'm not too big of a fan of the first trilogy. I think Testing is his BEST work. Got some crazy beats, good features and the best music videos of the genre. I'd skip the third joint and go into Testing. If you wanna put it like this it's his "Yeezus"
yes offer the old head his most inconsistent album with his worst rap performances r u restarted?
@@R1K1K1K1 he's clearly not loving the current Rocky, based on his previous likes I can say we're pretty even on our tastes, that's why I watch him. The word you're looking for is experimental, that tour kicked ass. I reccomend you go back to it with an open mind.
@@R1K1K1K1 But I'm deadass, instead of going thru the album, go to the music videos instead. Also Calldrops and Purity are both beautiful songs
Please react to Justin Timberlake's JUSTIFIED album.
