    At age 79, yes, &79(!!!!!!!!!!), as I prepare to engage some local art classes with the goal of maybe capturing my grand children in my hand, I luckily, no, make that blessedly, stumbled upon this brilliant, articulate, details laden, demonstration that casually mentioned every query concern that I have. I think this is one of the most succinct and impressive art video / discussion I have ever seen - even imagined. I wish more than the best for the brilliant demonstrator? instructor?

    These are absolutely fantastic tutorials. I love that you keep the whole color palette on the side and explain how your using them step by step. You have also explained that hair line technique which I've only seen done in time lapses. Your layering video was also very helpful and comprehensive. Thank you, you're a great teacher.

    I forgot to thank you for having the pencil numbers sit on the screen for a while so we can write them down: if not it would be difficult for us to try to understand the content of the tutorial and remember the color numbers. You are very smart and talented. Thanks.

    I'm afraid that without the music I would have fallen asleep. Your voice is very soothing. There was one moment that the music didn't go well with the subject, but for the most part, I thought it was helpful. I have that problem with a few other artists long tutorials on youtube when there isn't anything to help me stay engaged. For me, this video was very nice to watch.

    Thank you very much for a well organized presentation. Although I am a non-speaker of English, it's a miracle that I didn't miss any word thanks to your diction and speed of your speech. Do you do this kind of presentation often for the public - I mean not for your Patreon audience? Thank you for not presenting a time-lapse show, something that makes me feel like pulling my hair out. I agree that it's better with no music. But still it's a excellent presentation. Thank you.

    Wow! What a wonderfully rendered portrait using what I, and many colored pencil artists, think to be the worlds best colored pencils in Luminance by Caran D'ache. But for the worlds best pencils to work the way they should, they need an amazing artist such as yourself. It was a wonderful time watching and listening to your process. Such beautiful work and love the traditional Chinese signature style that u use for your signature. Keep up the great work and love listening to your videos. Lastly, You do a very good voice over in explaining your process. :)

    • @UnmaskArt
      @UnmaskArt  7 лет назад

      I would not recommend exclusively using polychromos. But you can order Luminance pencils individually, The absolute must have Luminance pencils for portraits are: 832, 872, 842, 862, 836 and 876. Those 6 colors do not exist in polychromos at all, I would also get the luminance 801 and colorless blender.

    Awesome work my friend. I don't know if it's an age thing here (74) but I find it really irritating and unnecessary for tutorials and documentaries in general to include background music, when all I want to do is concentrate on the voice over. And your voice, like others who have commented here, is very nice and soothing. Sorry about the negative part here, but music on documentaries is a pet hate of mine. Your voice and art is powerful enough to stand alone..Thanks you very much.

    A very good tutorial on using colored pencil on this portrait. The colored pencils that you are using are they wax based or oil based? I have use Prismacolor made by Berol in the 1980's and early 1990's before blenders. The new Prismacolor made by Sanford are not the same quality and I am looking into using another brand. My Mule Deer buck avatar was done in Prismacolor in the early 1990's on archival illustration board. Thanks again for a wonderful video. I did not have such luxury as the internet for sources and education when I was illustration 30 years ago. Keep up the excellent work.

I love how you explain your technique and thought process on every aspect of the piece. I'm getting ready to experiment with mixed media, using watercolor, ink and colored pencils, and this has giving me some insight on how to do the colored pencil portion. Oh, going a little off topic here, but your review of the Ugee 2150 pen monitor is what helped make me decide to get one! Have really enjoyed it for the past 7 months I've had it! What tool are you using intermittently with the pencils ? It’s black and doesn’t look like the luminance colorless blender.

    This was the most helpful video I've seen on realistic colored pencil drawing, do you have the reference you used?

    I have to say, this is, by far, the best colored pencil portrait tutorial I've found on RUclips. You explain what you're doing and why extremely well. One question, what is the black and white tool you're using? I didn't quite catch the name.

      Nevermind, just figured out that it was a colorless blender in a pencil extender. My mistake. Still an amazing tutorial.

      Thank you for the lovely compliment i really appreciate it. I'm planning on doing an advanced skin tone tutorial later this month also. :)
