70? Straightened up? Kurt, I am NOT a young woman, have lived in the Dayton OH area all my life and 70/75 have been under construction the entire time. Weeelllll, that might be an exaggeration but it’s not much of one. Two seasons here - with or without orange barrels. Be safe, Kurt - especially around this crazy place! 💕🛣️🥳
I drove that same route to Cincy on Monday of this week. It was very rainy and they had three of the gates open on that dam on the lake just on the west side of Indy. The bridge on 275 looked exactly as it did when you went through. The box truck and bobcat was in the same exact spot with no sign of work taking place.
You too Kurt stay safe and have a good trip enjoyed the video like always you giving us a updated history lesson of how things have changed over the years thanks for posting be looking for next video
Happy New Year my friend. Love you videos I guess I can relate a dork to another. I hope the new year will be a great one for our country unlike the past 4. Stay safe out there Kurt.
Hey Schmidt I put a CB in my pick up and I’m not always in it but it’s my pallet truck so I’m just wondering if I can talk to people from the states I’m from Canada and I don’t know if I can listen to people from the state
Many years ago your truck would not have had power steering. That is where the knob was implemented, but sometimes that wheel got away from the trucker, therefore the term suicide knob.
That 275 bridge you went over is having structural issues. They are limiting the weight crossing at one time. It will be an issue for awhile as is too the bridge on East side of Cincinnati that had structural damage from a massive fire beneath it

Having grown up in a (NJ) suburb of NYC, and having done at least 100 business trips to Indianapolis and Cincinnati, I find it extremely amusing that you think those areas are as dense and traffic-filled as you can stand. Coming home from college in the Boston area the night before Thanksgiving, I used to allow an extra 2 hours getting through CT, plus 5 hours backup to get across the Tappan Zee Bridge. The same for returning if I waited until Sunday afternoon. Which I eventually learned not to do, instead driving back extremely early on Sunday. Google Maps predicting what normal traffic will be any time of day/week, makes it so much easier now, for routes where you're not personally familiar with traffic delays. GPS traffic features offer rerouting choices, it is so easy now, versus the days of looking at your Rand McNally paper map and taking a guess of which way will be easier.
That was route 1 you started to take. The citizens paid for that sign. It's a good road, tho a few weeks ago the road was closed to all traffic. The route one sign is the wrong color for an 'official' sign. At least that's what ISP told me when I inquired at that little gas station with truck parking at the top on the left (going from 74). You're in my stomping ground lol if you ever need info feel free to reach out!
@@truckingwithschmidt7120 I think it's wrong for residents to put stuff like that up, they don't like truck traffic. Specifically the politician that lives part way down the big hill. Hey Kurt, why didn't you put the steering wheel cover on so when you tye the string, the knot is someplace on the wheel you dont touch very much. Or put the spinner knob over it? Also all those Crown lift trucks are made in New Breman , about 20 miles from me. Also Cinncinatti is ALWAYS a mess traffic is like the Idiot 500 everytime I go thru there.

The more truckers who refuse to sit in traffic, the better that loads on that route pay for ones who will. The same goes for being picky about avoiding states for bad weather, different politics, population density, or anything else. You can choose whether to drive through corn fields with no traffic, or creep along stop and go on I-95 through the South Bronx. Either way you can make a living, once you understand the gig and are not bothered by it psychologically, and understand what's a good or bad load for the conditions. An hour and a quarter on the road is an hour and a quarter on the road, doesn't matter if you go 12 miles or 72 miles, if that was the expectation when taking the load. Bad luck of hitting traffic where there shouldn't be any, on the other hand, does change how much trucking you get done. Of course taking a load that pays more, but not enough more to make up for the normal traffic, is just a mistake, part of the normal on the job training of why some tempting loads stay on a load board until some sucker grabs it.
That bridge will be one lane until at least May. Carol Lee Cropper Bridge. Corrosion/deterioration, couldn't find details in the brief news articles I found. It's a "tied arch" bridge, a popular type until the cable-stayed type seems to have superceded it. The stress of the arch is carried as tension in the members under the deck. The type has proven to be problematic... details of build matter & these weren't done carefully enough in many cases, it seems.
Kurt, "that bridge" looked large enough to be the one from Cincin over the Ohio River, am I right? That's the key - if it's south of the OHIO, it's Kentucky.

Part of the reason Cincinnati screwed up is because one of the bridges from Cincinnati into Northern Kentucky fire is closed due to fire damage. It's the bridge on 471. Cincinnati was never that great anyway. Traffic wise but that bridge being out doesn't help. This is the second time in a couple years that a bridge is going out due to a fire and created pure havoc in the town.

Now we're not going to teach you how to drive a truck, you're a stubborn old truck driver 😀🤪 that steering wheel knob is smart, but you'll wear out your left arm and shoulder a lot more than if you spread the wear on both arms, by turning normally. Go down the street and around the corner, reload the same company's product, and take it.back to LeMars. Then repeat twice more. Likewise with gas station burritos. Load at a plant in California, deliver to a cold storage in DFW area. Go up US-75 a bit, load at another plant, take those to South Carolina. Live unload, stay at the same door and reload, back to DFW area.

Sorry Kurt but I haven't bought an air freshener since the 80's when it was in style to hang stuff from your mirror such as fuzzy dice. I have No need now for one thing, 2nd they look tacky to me hanging from the mirror since I'm older, 3rd neither vehicle smells bc I keep them almost spotless inside, 4th thing is I don't smoke & 5th my car is a new 2024 with less than 2000 miles on it & has black leather seats & interior, I'd rather smell the new leather smell. I know you hang yours on the dash knobs & you probably need them bc you live in your truck while on the road with the smells from cooking or when your fart box Opie is with you & etc.
Ice cream down here in Florida how about it all the time yeah I love that good old Iowa ice cream yeah this is Ken down in groveland Florida only sell it here at the Dollar general store all right Kurt have a good one yeah I miss not seeing that pup dog in the truck with you anymore but I know when you got back problems can't be getting up and down at the top bunk'd all right man have a good one I wish I was still back out there on that road Harris county groveland Florida

I've been trying to find the true ones
@ I can answer any questions as best I can.
Suicide knob: thought was that in a wreck your chest would slam into it resulting in a fatal chest wound.
For the aromatics in the truck, I like the after fragrance of a bunch of butter beans I had yesterday. Makes it smell like a man.
Lol
Happy New Year 🎉😊
Schmidt I always enjoy your podcasts. I live in El Paso for almost 30 years. Interstate 10 from 3:00-6:00 can be a parking lot. Best wishes for a Happy and Prosperous New Year
They were suicide knobs before power steering.
Steering wheel knobs are not legal according to dot inspectors
Them suicide knobs we always had them on our farm tractors 🚜

Wimps can’t go east, but still can ride a Harley.
City’s like Cincy is one reason I stayed west. Stay safe and Havagudun.
