Great video. You rarely see the track version vs. the road version and the differences. I wish they were on the same tires, but otherwise, it's a nice comparison.
For the record, the 992 GT3 RS is slower round Anglesey Coastal than the 991.2 GT3 RS (1:11.20) the 991 GT2 RS (also 1:11.20) and about the same as the GT4 RS (1:12.44). The Cup car is about on par being 3 to 4s a minute quicker than a 992 GT3 RS. The 991 series GT3 touring and 991.2 GT3 RS are peak Porsche.
Did they mention tire condition for either car? I have a hard time thinking the Cup car was on stickers and arent there different compounds on offer for that class?
@@ALMX5DP cup cars are usually on michelin slicks. Of course there are qualifying slicks, but usually they are more durable. Cup 2R however, gets very close to slick performance, albeit for the first 2 minutes. That's why a fresh set of tires makes such a difference for a lap record. There is a very big drop off after a few minutes of lapping.
@ my point was just that I don’t think we know enough to draw any conclusions. How many minutes were each tire set used before this hot lap? What were each tire sets carcass temp or pressures? How new were the tires in terms of previous miles driven? What were their date codes and how were they stored if over a season or year old? I mean for all we know the Cup2s were brand new and freshly heat cycled with just a couple of laps to get consistent pressures and temps right? Maybe it’s possible too that set of tires was hooned by Chris Harris for 10 laps with only 1/32nd worth of tread remaining before Fifth Gear got some sloppy seconds? Maybe somewhere in between?
@@ALMX5DP fifth gear don't go thru the same kind of geeky tests that other publications do. So i'm pretty sure it's just 1 cup 2s tire for the test, and that's it. similar tests have been done at other tracks, with more serious testing parameters. The cup car is of course quicker. Tho, I think if the road car was completely stripped of everything that was unneeded, it may be very close.
Firstly I'm surprised that the full-house racecar is £12,000 *cheaper* than the hot-shot road car! Secondly I'm surprised you made no mention that the Cup car is (I presume) on slick tyres, which would surely account for 4 seconds' worth on its own...
GT3 spec cars are much faster, this year the fastest lap at the 24 hours of Spa was set by a Lamborghini Huracan GT3 during qualifying: 2:14.903. By comparison at the Porsche Supercup event the fastest lap was a 2:20.058.
The greatest advantage the Cup car had was for sure the slick tires, which can give you a 1-3 second advantage per lap and with some cars even 5 seconds per lap. The 190 kg plus weight penalty also hurts the RS.
I guessed the GT3 RS would be 5 seconds adrift of the Cup Car - so, I wasn't far off. The better power to weight, brakes and (probably) slick tyres were always going to be a good bit faster. I'll opt for a GT£ Touring (or a 911 S/T) if there's one going spare...
lol. 4.4 seconds is a freaking eternity on a track that short. Thats approx a 6% difference. We fight for 0.4sec and this is 4.4 sec?!?!?! I guess 4 sec doesnt sound that large, if you don't race, but come on! Thats a pretty similar to comparing a new 993 GT3 with PDK on Cup2R tires to a 997 Carrera S (Nurburgring times) on old tech tires and the old, slower/rougher course. The BIG miss in this situation is that you are running racing rubber on one and street on the other. That's over a second right there. You're never going to make up that 440lb weight delta.
This feels like typical Porsche marketing. The aero package works well on high speed circuits like Spa, Silverstone on N'ring (because downforce is proportional the velocity squared) but much less well on slower circuits like Anglesey coastal. The 992 GT3 RS is a great technical car but real world is at best marginally quicker than a 991.2 GT3 RS on the same tires. The GT3 RS is not a Supercar. All modern 911s are high volume production cars - the numbers of GT division cars produced these days are very significant.
the editing looks like 2005 fifth gear which i love
Great video. You rarely see the track version vs. the road version and the differences. I wish they were on the same tires, but otherwise, it's a nice comparison.
The result is as expected, of course the racing car is significantly quicker, but I think the different tires should have been taken into account.
Would be cool to throw on a set of Hoosiers or slicks onto the RS to see what it could muster.
Look at Jason's face at 5:24, that's what I call stopping power!

991.2 Touring is the best driver's car for manual drivers!
@@ClubBlau Yep 991.2 GT3 touring is excellent.
I have to agree with you. They’ll never make as good cars again unfortunately.
Nice one, fair and reasonable assessment and with no Chris BS who can't drive in a straight line.
to get anywhere close, you'd need fresh cup 2R tires on the gt3rs. I reckon a 1:10.xx is possible.
I was just thinking that.

I 'm probably speaking for everyone who's a British motor sport fan i think we'd all love to see you in the porsche carrera cup season next year
Can't believe the race car is cheaper! I recon with some more time configuring the settings on the road car he could gain about another second.
Tires

GT3 RS is just on another level as a road going track car ❤❤❤
Great video
The 992 GT3 RS is very close to the 991.2 GT3 RS and 992 GT3, the 991 GT2 RS is always quicker and the 718 GT4 RS is a little slower.
I enjoy watching Jason Plato driving videos 🤔
How much would the difference be with 996 Cup and street GT3?
Love to see a GT3 spec race car lap to see how it compares to the cup car. We've just bought a Lamborghini retired GT3 and that thing is very quick.

For sure. Would have liked to see what the RS could do with those Michelin slicks on it.
Wow the cup car is cheaper than the road version!
I didn’t know Fifth Gear was back.
Looks like JP had fun!

Tyres more than anything
Ooh ya fighter
Impressive how close it is to the race car ... Now I wonder what the gap would be with a LM GT3 RSR instead of the GT3 cup :3
Another 1-1.25 seconds
Jonathan Pie is a racing driver?
The best in the business in my opinion❤
I want to see a Valkyrie or Red Bull road car, see how close to a f1 car.
Where is the rsr?
was the cup car on full slicks?
Looks like it from the sidewalls.
Remedial......no mention of tires......
200kg difference, road car has no chance 😅😅😅
Then again if you put road tires on cup car who knows? 😅
Why were they not compared on the same tyres??!
Because the come with different tires. Road car gets road tires, race car gets race slicks.

1080p... Come on man!
Other than that great review. I love a bit of Plato!
Thats not 1.12 and if you tuned it gave it some more power it would be not far off
My fiat seicento is a much better racecar as it weighs about half of what the gt3 rs does 😂
Not sure why but Fifth Gear 1080p video all look like 720p at best.
