It's a bit different - the reason subscribing in mass to a channel can ruin it is because viewers aren't legitimately interested in the content and were just told to subscribe, but being prompted to subscribe in a video generally means you enjoyed that video and want to see more of that content

I think the channel Isaiah Photo was able to capitalize off the fame the best. Rather than make normal videos as the others did, Isaiah made Shorts videos meaning if you had subbed to him because of the video, he would pop up on your feed randomly. He continued to do his own thing, doing crazy YT challenges suggested to him by viewers, making it really easy to scroll through his videos to see what crazy thing he’d do next. Alongside this; he always roped in new viewers by telling them to help him accomplish his goal in surpassing Dwayne Johnson in subscribers, his enthusiasm and dedication to this specific goal made it really easy to hit the subscribe button. Now he has 10 million subscribers, and he even got to play The Rock in rock paper scissors.
