One of the greatest blues musicians and one of my favorites....God bless your soul John Mayall and your family...I'll treasure the albums that I still have
God Bless John Mayall the Greatest British Blues Artist that has lived. I’m very proud to have enjoyed & witnessed his contribution to the British & World Blues scene, God Bless John Mayall! X
John Mayall was an inspiration to my personal journey through modern music. As a favourite 'band' he sat between my love of the (original) Small Faces and Pink Floyd. His contribution to rock music , and bringing global attention to wonderfully talented musicians is legendary. The people whom he catapulted towards stardom reads like a who's who of rock giants. He literally bestrode the music world like a colossus. Mayall will be fondly remembered by millions; as much for his fine music as his personality. I hope John Mayall will get the recognition and acknowledgment that he so richly deserves over the coming weeks. Hopefully this will include a special gig , in his memory, featuring just a few of those he helped along the way. RIP John, you will always remain special to me. Fly Tomorrow..........
Sad tonight, bought my first Mayall album in1966. John fans will know which one that was. The last album joining my collection was in 2022, which I believe was The last album John released. My Mayall collection will get plenty of plays in th coming days. RIP John and thank you for the music.
In Memoriam: John Mayall, the Godfather of British Blues Today, we gather to honor a legend-a man whose harmonica wailed like a midnight train and whose soulful chords echoed through the ages. John Mayall, the pionero of British blues, has left us, but his music remains etched in the very fabric of our hearts. John’s journey began in the smoky clubs of London, where he conjured the spirits of Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, and Little Walter. With his Bluesbreakers, he ignited a revolution-a seismic shift that would resonate across continents. And there, amidst the haze of cigarette smoke and the clinking of glasses, a young Eric Clapton found his muse. Clapton, too, was a seeker-a restless spirit yearning for purpose. John Mayall opened the door for him, beckoning him into a world of raw emotion and unbridled expression. “Thank you,” Clapton whispers now, tears glistening, “for rescuing me from oblivion.” John’s home became Clapton’s sanctuary, his record collection a treasure trove of Chicago blues. Together, they painted the canvas of sound, creating music that defied convention. But John was more than a mentor; he was a surrogate father. He taught Clapton to play from the heart, unapologetically. “Dress it up or not,” John would say, “play what moves you.” And so, Clapton did-his fingers dancing across frets, his soul laid bare. The Beano Album, recorded in '66, became a touchstone for generations of blues-rock guitarists. John’s legacy was etched in every note. Yet, Clapton carries regrets-the youthful follies of excess, the heedless pursuit of pleasure. “I wished to make amends,” he confesses, “while he was alive.” John, ever forgiving, smiled and played on. Now, as the bluesman rests, Clapton whispers, “I’ll see you soon, but not yet.” John Mayall, your sun shines down upon us. Your legacy, a beacon in the midnight hour, reminds us to play with fire, to seek truth in the notes, and to honor the blues that bind us all. Farewell, maestro. May your harmonica echo through eternity
when he lived in the uk he was born in maccesfield cheshire, but moved to cheadle hulme outside of stockport my former home town. rip john never be forgotten

Wow! This is the first I've heard of his death! Now, I should share my own personal "John Mayall Story!" I was working with a local Bluegrass/Country/Southern Rock band whose leader was a guy named Leon Poindexter back in 1977/78 in the Tampa Bay area of Florida. We were scheduled to open for a Mayall concert at the Sunshine Speedway racetrack the next day, but we were booked to play the Don Cesar (sp?) Hotel lounge on St. Petersburg Beach the night before. The stage was rather high and large, and a couple of sets in, I felt somebody tugging at my pant leg. Looking down, I saw a little guy beckoning for my attention. He asked if it would be okay if John Mayall came up and played one of my harmonicas? I said "sure" and passed the word to the rest of the band. I had no idea Mayall was staying at that high-end hotel that night! And then, the great man himself stepped up. He looked in my case, which held 12 diatonic harmonicas, mostly Hohner Golden Melodies and a few old Marine Bands. He then declared that he didn't like the "plastic" Golden Melodies and preferred to play the "wooden" Marine Bands. He chose one in Bb and my band launched into a blues tune in the corresponding key. I went and sat down in the crowd and listened to one of my early harmonica idols play one of my harps for the rest of the set. Great memory! "Brute" Bruttomesso
Diese Nachricht macht mich sehr traurig, Ruhe in Frieden. Deine Musik wird immer leben. Danke für so viele schönen Stunden schöner Musik. Ich werde dich nie vergessen.
At 90 years of age you have to assume he simply died of old age. He had a good innings. So many of the British acts that emerged in the 60s came from a Blues background, but Mayall was one of the ones that stayed loyal.
Can anyone reading this sad news please go out and buy Blues From Laurel Canyon even if you already have it. It would be good to get it back in the charts. I bought it when it was first released and it’s probably my most played album. Every track is a masterpiece.
Quite sad he wasn't more of a household name. Seems many people don't realise how instrumental he was in kick-starting the British blues boom. Without him launching the popularity of Clapton and Peter Green (plus many others), there would be no rock and metal music as we know it. It wouldn't be the same. RIP 🙏
One of the greats indeed. I think it was a toss u p between him and long john baldry as the godfather of british blues. I'm 68 and I remember him on TV in the early 70s.

Still remember his concert in Greece on June 1983 . Guitarist was Mick Taylor !

Dejo gran legado
Sobretodo si fusión de JAZZ Y BLUES
Depuis mon adolescence ( seventies ) j'ai écouté sa musique toute ma vie. Le blues que je préfère est " mists of time ". He was my pope . RIP
