- I've had one for three years. Mine came from the Harbor Freight here in Stuart, Florida. Cost was $17 out the door on sale and with a 20% coupon. I use it nearly every day and it has performed quite well. I'm a hobby guy and I use mine for light duty.
Thanks
Thanks Jimmie! I haven't used that cut-off tool, but I've had excellent luck with $10 Harbor Freight grinders in the past. Harbor Freight is great for those kind of tools. I'm currently using a Dremel with a cut-off wheel, but it's like you say, "You use it everyday."
Very good review for many I'm sure! I have an industrial one from my dad and use it quite often. I do like the trip feature and wish mine had that....
Dave M some people complain about the sensitive trip feature but I've observed it trips when I want it to, i.e. wheel gets a "catch" in the work. It takes just a second to reset then you're back in business.
Thanks for the demo!! I bought this last night. So glad you showed the cutting discs. They didn't have any in stock, but now I know what to look for!! Thanks!
Lynda _Lee I'm glad you got something out of it. I use mine almost every day ... Still going strong...good luck!
Thanks for the vid...I was wondering which way the motor turned, and this answered it directly!
Great video..think it will cut a 🔒 lock?
I’m sure it would make quick work of common padlocks...
Nice vid. Grabbed one yesterday, looking for masonry discs.
Good luck!
Would this be the tool to make an opening for my fuel pump
if replacing a fuel pump, can i wet the surface and cut with these tools?
Can it cut fiberglass sheet
I apparently got the junk one out of the bin. It will not cut for more than a few seconds before stopping NO hogging cuts...very light pressure, Have been trying to figure a fix as I gave up the the tool some years ago but could use it to work for a job now
Micheal Figueroa they can be touchy... HF has other models for just a bit more that are heavier duty... I picked one up for about $10 and I can cut rebar with it... not a continuous duty all day tool, but perfect for the occasional cut. good luck!
another concise 1000 day review , but dont sell your self short you should do the 1000 day evaluation of the pack of 100 day cut off disk !
Great video ..picked one up
I hope it works well for you!
How's the tool holding up any issues as of now
Still working great!
Thanks for the review. I've been on and off about picking this tool up, I think I might now. Also, nice Big Lebowski shirt. Thanks again.
NP70707 glad you enjoyed dude! I should also say the next size HF cutoff tool is pretty powerful and also a great deal...typically $10-15 with coupon...pretty amazing really.
I have one but it's from home depot. Work very good & never does the trip
Great video man. I am actually going to go and pick one up today based on your review!
SonnyGTA thanks! I hope it works out well for you....don't forget the coupon!
Great vid Jimmie!
how do you change the damn wheel?
With the damn allen key… easy peasy
I have that the only thing I had to do was put a new cord on it I use it for cutting up scrap metal
Why did you have to put a new cord on ot?Keep tripping?
Thanks for the info good job h
Just a friendly tip... do not use gloves while using a cut off tool or grinder because if she grabs, you're going to cut your fingers off
FatCity Customs a good tip - thank you!
Would you say this would be good to cut off part of a old muffler ?
It would have no problem cutting the pipe. It is a small wheel though...You’d need access all around the pipe to get a clean cut. HF also has larger cutters for about the same money - you might look at those...
There is a truck I'm working on and the tailgate is molded to the frame, would this tool work to separate the tailgate from the truck bed?
Maybe its a stupid question, but will it work well on pvc, and how about bamboo?
I just wonder if itll tear up the pvc, and ill be working with a compact circular saw which id prob. Better for the bamboo bimut i have no idea
Dixx Almeity I’m sure it will however it can only cut through about 3/4” thickness, so probably not practical...
"touchy"? The one I have appears to be the same as to the one you are using What is the other model?
those wheels are terrible the new ones are the most insane lasting disc ive ever used they are unreal CHEIF brand ive never in my life seen a wheel that wont wear and cuts well
Nice review. Looks like a good price-performance compromise on this one.
Hey, you think this would be able to cut some wheel studs?
Any idea the size of wrench I need to tighten the wheel? Didn't come with the wrench and normal ones are too thick. Great video!
Seth S I’ll have a look at mine when I get to the shop tomorrow. ...good luck!
I just picked this up. Does it cut bike frames well? I have to cut a bike frame to build a motorized bike and make space for the motor on such a small frame.
NotthatDigusted I’m sure it will but it is a small wheel so it might be a bit tedious. After I made this video I also bought the next larger size at HF and I think it was only about $15 with the coupon. And that one really works well....good luck!
@@JimmiePorterAtStuartArts This is why I decided to use the larger 4 1/2 angle grinder for the cuts I want to do.
Can it cut PVC pipe? or is it meant for metal only?
jfs1988 I'm sure it will cut plastics but the wheel is small so it probably isn't efficient for anything above about 1/2".
what is the specific model # thank you
The overload protection is probably one of the main reasons the tool is still going strong after 3 years +. I'd say the overload functions more to protect the tool rather than protecting the operator.
Do you have any tips for someone new to power tools and someone who wants to get more comfortable with using them?
NotthatDigusted I would start with the basics....hand drill and maybe a saber saw and a palm sander....there are looooots of great “how to” videos.... good luck!
@@JimmiePorterAtStuartArts I just started practicing more just to get used to using them I always had a fear of cutting my fingers off or catching something on fire from the metal cutting sparks.
Hey Sir, I never had one of these tools before but ran into a snaffu working on my truck. My F250 upper ball joints are stuck because I can't get the castle nut off. It just keeps spinning. Since I am replacing the ball joint anyway, I was thinking off chopping it clean off. Looks like this will work well?
Drew.tater.tot that metal could be hardened, so it could be a lot for this small tool. Harbor Freight has a larger sized cutoff tool for about the same money that I would probably use. Good lock!
Thanks Jimmie. My neighbor actually had a Dewalt cutoff that he let me borrow. That did well!
Will it do well on tile?
Andy Freeman I honestly do not know...I've never used it on ceramics...but now I'll have to give it a try.
