  • In this video im going to show you just how much more effective an engineered abrasive is vs the normal stone grinding discs you may be used to seeing. These discs cost about the same amount, but are 4 or 5 times faster, and last multiples longer! I knew they were good, but I was actually shocked when I went back and looked at the time differences.

    Wish I had watched this video ages ago. Bought a box of them and my goodness the difference is night and day. Way less vibration and noise and unbelievably faster material removal rate. Feels like using a flap disc instead of a traditional stone grinding disc. Lifetime is still not clear to me yet but first impression are seriously impressive! Thanks a bunch for sharing this, I will never use anything else ever again.

    Man I’m so glad I saw this, and thanks for taking the time to showcase such a great product. As a blacksmith I go through discs like crazy and have searched far and low for a great disc like these and finally settled on ceramic flap discs but that’s gonna change now from watching this. I know Pferds quality having some of their Carbide burrs, and files, and they make the best modern made metal working tools I’ve found so far, shows how many tools they offer with these sitting under my nose the whole time.

    Dude…. Those Victrograin are amazing. Saved my patience, hands, and time. They are money. I had one in my kit before watching this just to sample it out from my local weld supply. Tried it out and now I use it predominantly. Yes they’re pricey, but the time savings makes it way worth it. Also, I feel I can control it better. Thanks!

    • @supersportimpalass
      @supersportimpalass 3 года назад +2

      I mentioned the same thing in my comment. You can actually see the paint mark burning off which means that steel is smoking hot. One major downside of those crappy bonded hard stones is they cut like crap once the metal reaches a certain temp. That's a huge deal if you need to remove a lot of material.

    the only Con is that their life is about half of your traditional grinding disc like pearl or something like that.
    so they are more expensive and last half as long which puts them right at about 4 times more expensive, but as far as cleaning up metal, these are unmatched!

I'll definitely be trying out some of these. Would be cool to see a comparison of these to other structured discs. They still do seem like an awesome value. I mounted a 4 1/2 grinder in a vise (eye-bolt into handle threaded hole, and remote switch), and put a cubitron disc on it. It's the best darn rapid bench grinder I've used yet. Think I'll build a mount for it to free up the vise.

    That being said I have some myself that I bought and I was absolutely blown away by the performance. Worth every extra penny over the regular ones. Especially the fact it doesn’t vibrate as much, really saves my hands. The shavings are also visibly different, much more stringy than the dust the normal ones produce.
    I still have a regular disk kicking around somewhere but I don’t think I’ll ever use that again.

    I don't get the short use vibration nerve problems. I've done it 30 min at a time, just stopping to replace the disk, with regular box store disks and never felt any different. Everyone's different I guess.

    Hi Chris, I was curious what the best cut off wheel you reccomend for a milwaukee m18 5" grinder/Cutter? I got quite confused over all the different types. Im not looking for a cutting/grinding duo....Im mainly going to be cutting hardened steel and stainless, grade 8 bolts as well. Thank you for your help!

    Just noticed the white marker pen disappears off the metal when using regular discs compared to the first disc which means less heat in the metal with first disc = less stress to the metal

    After you use the Vitrograin to grind down the metal - What do you use with the Angle Grinder to Deburr the sharp edges of the metal?

    Try out a Cubitron. They can be used just like any other grinding wheel, last a long time, and eat faster than the cheapos I used to use. I've never given thought to the vibration, but thinking back I think they're smoother running than the cheapos.

  • @tommays56

    If you're continually grinding, for instance in a foundry, then fair enough but most guys use a grinder for a minute or two at a time. Most decent manufacturers have an equivalent ceramic abrasive wheel - Tyrolit Cerabond, 3M Cubitron, Norton SG so Pferd are not unique.

    What does 115 sgp steel mean? And why does the threaded disc say 115 and the non threaded disc say 125?

    Sadly, I felt the same with grinding discs, I used to use them to grind edge bevels into mild steel sword and axe blanks for props- after about a week, I instead resorted to 40 grit flap discs, which cut down the vibration, but don't eat away as fast and have a much, much shorter lifespan. Glad to see there's a good alternative, one 8 dollar disc could outlast both of those things and spare my hands, I'd like to see how this compares to a 40 grit metal grinding flap disc.

    While they are obviously useless at getting into any kind of corner, these disc's certainly kick ass at surface removal. You should do a disc roundup video showing all the typical angle grinder processes & Ur recommended abrasive/cutter disc for each (mill scale removal, surface polishing, cutting...). U probably have most of the video already, just need to splice & narrate. Thx

    I like the PFERD 61215 they last even longer than the grey. I was able to pick up my last 10 pack on sale for $65, they are usually $95. Now they just need them in x-lock.

    I'm a professional.
    Not a hobby horse.
    I FULLY ENDORCE
    PFERD PRODUCTS. (UN-PAID)
    Don't pay much mind to the harping and wise ass coments.
    My maintainence turnaround time has to be fast. I often grind (removals) others would put in a milling machine. Including form fitting the repair. Some of it is so aggressive I frequently re-grease the bevel gears in my side grinders.
    I haven't used a PFRED product yet that didn't do everything it's suposed to do. I'll be trying these next.

    I'm new at this, but wouldn't it have been faster to use either a hacksaw, recip saw with metal cutting blade, or a miter saw with a metal cutting blade to cut the round bar (and perhaps finish it off with grinding the edge smooth)?

    • @autumn5592
      @autumn5592 2 года назад

      Yes, absolutely, best option if applicable.
      However that wasn't the point of the test.
      The test was removal rate, round bar conveys that pretty easily.
      Realistically you would never do this if you had other cutting options (cutoff disk, bandsaw, or hacksaw.)

    PFERD (Preferred or P-ferred) is a great company. I use them at work 14 hours a day, 6 days a week. We no longer use grinding discs, but grinding pads. They're much better than the ones you're using. We use 40 grit on 42" diameter by 80' joints of pipeline pipe that we manufacture. I have permanent numbness from the palm of my left hand to the tips of my fingers. OSHA is a joke.
