I'm loving the educational aspect of these video's, ever since being a young child I've always said my fav diesel was the Deltic (or so I thought from pictured I'd seen as I grew up), but now I've learned it was actually the class 40 and the Deltic was far less common and no longer even in use at the times I travelled on them as a child
Many thanks, yes the Class 37, Class 40 and Deltic are all from the English Electric stable and all have the nose with set back windows giving a similar appearance.
Thanks Andrew, glad you enjoyed the video, these were a couple of really productive days, I managed to bag a few favourites of the year on these couple of trips.
Thank you so much, I wanted to try get the S&C workings into a Video, this was my first time out (after doing the Marsden Video) with the intention of getting a photography video together, I just made a mess of the audio though but its all a learning curve.
Hello Andrew! i really enjoyed this video with a smile on my face. The presentation by bike! very well done and made. The Settle Carlisle railway is a dream for me and was never there and hope to get there someday. Very nice video! Greetings from Belgium.
Glad you enjoyed it! The Settle Carlisle line is one of those must visit locations, unfortunately there’s not many trains running so visits do need to be timed right. Your comments do give me a real boost so thank you.
Very original concept on the Bike Andrew, did think at one point bike, filming , canal could have been interesting lol. Classic images from classic locations all seen on your Flickr page. I've missed my annual visit to the S&C because of lockdown in 2020 , hopefully later this year. Excellent stuff.
Thanks Robert, yes, in retrospect not the best combination canal, biking and being distracted, it could have ended horribly! Hopefully there’s plenty of chances to get about later in the year, I’m looking forward to getup on the S&C again this year, there’s a few specials booked that I wouldn’t mind seeing.
I was up at Ais Gill and Birkett Common for the 40. Theres a really nice long shot just East of Broomfleet station, a foot crossing. You'd get some nice shots of the RHTT there this year.
Thank you, the class 40 was quite the sight on the S&C, don’t think it’ll be quite the same this year with the HST running. I’ll have to check out Broomfleet.
Many thanks, Pete, yes, lockdown has and is rather frustrating, I had loads of plans which are all on hold at the moment. The sound on the original video for the Staycation video was so poor I just couldnt do anything with it, ive been trying to think of a way to introduce it! Hopefully more videos to come on a regular schedule soon.
Brilliant, splendid video combined with great photos, all put together in a unique fashion with an engaging commentary. Here's to the next installments Andrew!
Brilliant as always Andrew, great to see some background to the S&C shots, inspiring images, hopefully we will be able to get out and about soon, keep up the exceptional work 🚂😊📷
Absolutely, Andrew, I only hope the Government timetable keeps to track and we have a little more freedom soon. Thank you for the comments, I’m so pleased you watch and enjoy.
Really do enjoy these videos and the finished Flickr results also, keep it up Andy, really highlights the ups and downs of the hobby exceptionally well
Wow, fantastic shots! I've always wanted to shoot a good loco going over the Ribbleshead viaduct, that was perfect! I do love it when they give the old diesels their classic blue and yellow coats back. I had the same problem with wind noise on my earlier videos, even with a Rode videomic pro, but I solved it with a Rode SmartLav lapel mic running into an old smartphone. I have to sync up the audio in editing, but as long as you give a few claps after you set both recording it doesn't take very long to line them up and get it looking good. Adding on a lav mic 'dead cat' makes for an almost wind noise free recording!
Cheers, the Staycation Express brought quite a bit of interest to the S&C last summer using a variety of old BR diesels, it’s always good to get an interesting train on the viaduct, evenings are good if timed right to get the viaduct and train silhouetted against the setting sun. Thanks for the advice, I do suffer with wind noise, just ask the wife ;)) I’m using a Rode mic on the camera with a dead cat, which is also very directional, so if I turn away from camera it doesn’t pick me up, I’ll look at using the lapel mic.
Another cracking video,i do enjoy your insight into what goes into you getting the picture you want.I also felt you’re pain that day on the S&C with the weather which you’ve probably seen on my Flickr page with the weather,I’ll also have to look at that Gargrave shot for this year’s staycation HST,like to have done more with the 20s myself but it was just been in the right area at the right time.
Thank you, Rob, the weather is one more thing to keep us railway enthusiast photographers on our toes, but it is the S&C so to be expected I suppose. I would recommend the Gargrave shot, there are some interesting compositions with the canal from both sides of the line and it makes a nice break on the drive up/back, being only a few miles beyond Skipton.
@@AndrewShenton yes the weather,I’ve been to end off the road today too get the engineering trains at Kirkstall and the weather was definitely keeping you on you’re toes with the sun in/out. Yes Gargrave is a place I normally call in on way back from my sisters in Cumbria in normal times at the pub just before the village at side off the canal,so will definitely take a better look next time in hopefully better times.
@@robc9845 Yes, hopefully in better times, if you are thinking of the Premier Inn Pub by the canal, its a pleasant 5 minute walk along the canal from there.
Nice one young man, was the bike ride relevant in any way ? Perhaps in the next episode you could reminisce whilst pushing a shopping trolly around Tescos ;-)
The railway on the viaduct just looks so beautiful and British
Many thanks, it’s a very scenic line, one of the best railway journeys in Britain.
Another fun watch with some great photos. I have to say my favourite was the class 20’s at Barlby at night.
Thanks, Daniel, yes I was pleased how that shot of the Class 20s at Barlby came out, I do like my night photography.
More great photos and locations 😀👍
Glad you enjoyed them Michael.

Another stunning selection from Up North, thank you for you dedication and abilities, keep safe, Pete.
Thanks Peter, hopefully back to the S&C through the summer again.
I was at Ribblehead stn that day great pic.
Thanks Paul, what a great day that was too, plenty turned out for the action.
Brilliant video, really enjoyed that and those shots were stunning

Just discovered your videos today and thoroughly enjoying! Really well-made and useful content. Subscribed.
Thanks Simon that’s really appreciated, I’ve plenty of other Railway photography videos in the pipeline, so keep an eye out.
Thoroughly enjoyed watching you trial and tribulations in pursuit of good images and look forward to the next one.
Thanks Peter, glad you enjoyed it, I didn’t want the S&C videos to go to waste, now lockdown is easing hopefully more of a chance to get out.

😂😂😂 Nope the bike ride had no relevance whatsoever, It was a test for another video idea and it just sort of evolved, I do like the Tesco idea though!
