I’ve been fishing this technique for a couple of years with great success. The Bass Pro Shops Clam Shot, #4 or #5, split shot weights are a huge improvement over standard split shot weights, because of the taper they come through grass and cover much easier than a round split shot. Don’t even bother trying the ‘removable’ split shot weights… you’ll get hung up on every other cast. My favorite soft plastics for this technique are 4” Finesse Worms and 4” Lizards. A 4” Lizard in early spring is irresistible to a Bass.

I started using split shots when I learned how to catch trout. Helgramite on a hook, split shot about 15 inches above. Viola.

Been split shoting for 50 years. A round split shot does not hang up as much as the reusable split shot with the tag end. It is best to use a straight shank hook. I use the Robo Worm Re Barb hook and the worm is held firmly in place. Just use the proper size hook for the size worm you are using.
