  • Railways are built - and then rebuilt decades later. Our 'Permanent Way' department is responsible for maintaining and rebuilding the miles of line at Foxfield. We need your help to keep the magic rolling, whether you have time once a week or year, and regardless of experience level, we can induct you and show you all! Thank you! Since recording all that's left to do now is the 'packing' of the ballast under the sleepers for this particular stretch.

Does the part of line down to Blyth bridge actually get used at all is there any reason its not usable for running on?

Excellent question. The main reason we don't currently use the track to Blythe bridge is the width of the tunnel - although the train fits we worry it may catch anyone who decides to lean out of a window. As there isn't a passing loop at the Blythe Bridge end it would mean backing up a train with the guard waving out the window - and thus at the tunnel that becomes a problem. However we do run maintenance trains/vehicles down from time to time.
