  • We spent a sunny August day at the Swindon and Cricklade Railway (swindon-crickl...)
Despite being very short track of around 4.5 miles with only 3 "stations" it was a great day out. Plenty of keen volunteers working hard to keep the railway in good order and improve the experience. Really good value for the tickets as well
The video shows the engine swapping ends at the 2 terminal stations (Hays Knoll and Taw Valley) and the train passing by the café at the main station of Blunsden. In reality it was mainly a freight line and the the 2 end stations have been built to add character and feature to the line. The Blunsden Station whilst being an original has been "recreated" in the style of the original
The Steam Locomotive running on the day was a Kerr Stuart 0-4-0 No 3083
    from 1918
A great day out - well recommended (I have no affiliation with the Railway)

First time that I have seen this loco and must say that she is a beauty. Thank you for giving details on her build. Never been to this line, but it is now on my to do list. Thank you for sharing.

      Thanks for the comments
Riding heritage railways is something my wife and I enjoy so we always look for a new railway to visit when we're out and about
The S&CR was a real gem to be honest. Small but well cared for
And yes that loco was in beautiful condition
