    Just started learning to burn on a Mitsubishi. We have a guy that's been doing wire EDM for 15+ years, I've seen him make some insane parts on that machine. This is an awesome video series

      Thanks for watching! Our Wire EDM operator Dan has been doing this a long time and I will soak in any info/knowledge I can from him.

    You should do a tutorial showing when it would be more or less efficient to have a wire start hole in the stock versus starting outside the block and cutting in. I've had thin sections warp and pinch the wire if I don't start from a pilot hole.

    Very nice video, thanks for sharing with us @ZeroToleranceCNC ! Any tips on how you control/prevent the bending of the parts/tabs after the roughing pass? Especially with thin parts/tabs...

    • @zerotolerancecnc
      @zerotolerancecnc 2 года назад

      The thinner the part you want to try and make a bigger tab if possible to keep it from bending.

    Thank you so much for the wire videos! I am new to wire and want to learn as much as possible. I can get by but not always sure im doing it the correct way.
    What software do you use? We also a Mitsubishi except its a 1200s and have been using the onboard software to program. Doesnt seem like its the easiest to use so far.
    How do you tab, cutoff and skim a punch? especially non magnetic? How do you catch the punch or even a scrap slug you are cutting off other than magnets?
    Can you go into detail on how to setup and run? little tricks?
    Thanks again!

      We use Esprit software, in the video when we refer to "inserts" we're talking about punches. Most of the time we'll let it wire off the tab and let it fall into the tank if the punches are small or we wire almost through it to the point where we can wiggle to break it off. If you watch the section where we explain the inserts it'll cover most of these questions. If you have any other questions let us know! Thanks for watching, we will be doing alot more Wire EDM videos.

    Just wondering, I assume that vice is homemade. But are they available commercially? or are there prints available.

    Very informative video. Really appreciate it. I have a question regarding skimming. is it necessary to rough all the profile first and then skim the profiles all at once? Which scenario calls for this kind of cutting method? Will the final results differ if we perform rough and skim passes back to back at each individual profiles? I guess this connects to temperature difference may be, I'm not sure

      The only concern you would have is the amount of time your block is in the tank getting rusty. The dimensions should still come out good, its really a preference thing but we do it based on the rust factor and how long it is in the tank.

      Thank you for your reply. One more problem I'm running into often is holding punch while performing multiple skim passes in tabs. We use shims and glue to hold the punch in place but it still twists and ruin the part. Can you suggest any method to hold it firmly or perhaps show it in one of your video?
